Game # 11 Open Thread: Saints @ Panthers
Abbreviated open thread on this abbreviated week. I'm back to normal posting next week. Hopefully, the Saints will be trying to get back to .500.
- The defense is looking to get more pressure on ... whoever plays quarterback for Carolina. That sounds like a pretty good plan, I wish them luck.
- Reggie is still touch and go. Grant and Brown should start. Carolina could be without Chris Gamble and Thomas Davis. Davis, especially, could be a substantial subtraction from their defense.
- What are the Saints thankful for? How 'bout the fact that the Les Miles-Michigan-LSU saga is deflecting attention away from them.
- Carolina's last home win was November 19 ... 2006. But teams seem to be getting off the schneid against the Saints pretty regularly.
- Olindo Mare better make all his kicks today.

Next Year
There's always next year.
Instead of Dorsey, let's get Colt David, the kicker.
Soothsayer Picks
- 17
- Colston
- McKenzie with a pick 6.
Least Valuable Player.... Jason David. (We need to make this a weekly or yearly award for the player that gives the opposing team a better chance of winning when he plays. For instance, last year, Fred Thomas was the Jason David LVP of the year. Maybe have a better name for it.)

Who is this Les Miles of whom you speak?
Anyway, Mike McKenzie made a couple great plays on the first drive, so, you know, good for him. And stuff.
Yay! Jason David with the 41 yard PI
Seriously, how many points would a team score if they just used a strategy of "throw it to the side Jason David is on every single time, regardless of whether or not he's supposed to have safety help, because all you need to do is either put a tall receiver on that side or pump fake and he'll bite, and the odds are the safety won't get over in time."
Finally
The offense gets a decent drive and scores.
On the plus side, the defense is defending the run well.
Jason David is garbage.

Yes I'm happy with the run D
Sorry I missed all the fun last week, I was flying across the country. Not really sorry to have missed it, but you know what I mean.
Whoa. We are weening.
And Olindo's 46 yard FG would have been good from sixty. Damn!
Mare and Defense
Mare has the leg, just no accuracy.
The defense has been stout against the run. Where has this been?

Not related to the Saints
But with the rumors of Leslie Miles to Michigan and Bo Pellini to Nebraska, who will coach the Tigers?

Good question
I think the local media's done a decent job of being hush hush about possible replacements while LSU is still playing games.
Tommy Tuberville's name has been thrown out there.
Chris Peterson from Boise State would be cool.
At this point it's all just speculation, but there's a thread over on one LSU message board going through it all here.
Clearly a lot of that list is just random name-slinging. Gene Chizik my butt.
What are Panther fans chanting?
WE WANT....???
They're clearly furious with Carr.
Desperate
For a 40 something QB? That can't be good for Carr's confidence.

Panthers and Tigers
How can they not get a TD there? Pitiful.
Yeah, I've read some of that speculation.

Rain
I was going to say the rain can't be good for the passing game, but there was a couple of good plays there.

WRs are getting open
Yeah, Colston, Johnson, Patten, pretty much everyone's been open lately. And Brees is delivering the ball damn well.
Quiet
The crowd is silent, is anyone at the stadium?
Foster is on my fantasy team, and I started him because of the Saints defense. Damn.

Boy we have played some baaaad offenses
The Niners and the Panthers are just atrocious.
I love the crowd
Cheering when the backup QB came in.

Redskins need to go 93 yards in 3 minutes
Down six to TB with the ball
Good Lord, Skins at Bucs 16 with 31 seconds left
1st and 10, no timeouts left.
Anyway, good win for us
Who knows if we're actually back on track, the Panthers are horrendous. But even though we're still 2 out in the division, 5-6 puts us a game out of the 2nd wild card spot, believe it or not.
Inconsistent
It's a toss up how we play. No one can predict it. The dropped passes and run blocking need to improve. Other than that, win the turn over battle.
Yeah, I go here to look at post season percentages and who to cheer for or against: http://www.sportsclubstats.com/NFL/N...
