Poo
Massive, flaming poo. Gross.
How did our OLine go from THAT GOOD last year to THIS BAD? I'm not an X's and O's guy by any means, but for all intents and purposes that performance blew goats. Are they really just not talented? Did they all fluke last year? Jammal's getting beaten by everyone. Haynesworth is great so we should have expected a battle from him, but for every single Titan D Lineman to have spent so much time in our backfield, just wow....
We know our secondary sucks, and we got no pressure on Young tonight, but on the whole the defense didn't get shredded like I thought it would. Secondary actually played up a touch. In fact I was happy to see David make a few decent plays. Maybe he doesn't belong in the arena league. I'm confounded by our DEs' inability to get any pressure, though. Maybe some of it was intentional, just to keep Young in the pocket and not let him beat us with his legs...but damn. We got pwn3d, to use the hacker speak.
But going back: the bright flashback to 2006 we saw when we had that second long drive to go up 14-10, where the hell did that go? Why'd the OLine go back to crumbling?
When the hell is Robert Meachem going to play, by the way?
We've got 13 weeks left to see what the level of talent really is on this team. It's not particularly realistic to expect us to even make the playoffs, regardless of how weak the NFC is; only 5 or 6 teams were on that list of 0-3 starts making the playoffs.
Right now probably the best this squad is looking at is 8-8. Realistically, 6-10. At least that wouldn't even require a .500 record the rest of the way. But we'd at least know what we can work with next year and what needs to be addressed this offseason.
I'm not football savvy enough to really tell whether the OLine issues are a scheme problem or talent problem, but my hunch is that Stinchcomb is just plain bad, Evans played last year way over his head, and Jammal is just having a down year. Hopefully, I'm wrong on the first two.
Not giving up or anything, but this pukey feeling of getting the hopes up that we right the ship, week after week and then having that dashed? Yeah, that's getting a little old.
I said after Week One, "At least we're not Michigan." But we're beyond that now. We've gotten blasted twice on national television, three times overall. At least Michigan is now playing like it can win the Big 10. We're certainly not playing like we could win the NFC South...or hell, even the Big 10.
Last year was a blast. I'm just thankful for that. What a run.

PS
I'm the Lance Moore MVP vote in the poll above. He is becoming reasonably dependable. Good for him.
