Saints Fans Love/Hate Reggie Bush
Despite the cheers you heard for Reggie Bush after his electrifying punt returns Monday night, Saints fans have developed a love/hate relationship with him. The overwhelming majority of them would rather see Deuce McAllister carry the load at running back. All those "Deuuuce" chants in the Superdome are more than just love for McAllister. What you can’t hear on TV is that they are often accompanied by under-the-breath knocks on Bush, cursing his sideways (pussyfoot?) running style that often takes him out of bounds. Many have clearly grown tired of waiting for Bush to reach his much hyped potential.

Interesting...
But makes sense. Fans, (heck people in general) are very fickle. And everybody’s an expert. You can tell that’s the sentiment though from fan’s post on blogs, forums and articles.

I still love Reggie
But, he just needs to be used properly and he is not being used properly right now.

The New York Times? You're sourcing the New York Times???
Typical New Yorkers. Exaggerating the facts, provoking disputes, spreading bad feelings. The author knows nothing of which he reports. So Jack saw a drunk use his Reggie jersey as a rag, therefore all Saints fans either love or hate (there’s your exaggeration) Reggie? I strongly disagree (there’s your first dispute) and this is pissing me off (there’s the bad feeling). More accurately, I think fans are disappointed that Reggie’s performance in the NFL is not as electrifying as it was at USC. Think: Do you know or know of one fan who said “I hate Reggie Bush” in the same sense as “I hate Jason David”? Yeah. Didn’t think so. Toni Monkovic should’ve looked a little longer for a post topic.

Sean Payton may be the only thinking, rational person who saw Reggie as a #1 back in the NFL, especially after a few games in 2006.

OK, THAT was a bit of an exaggeration on my part (I'll the provoking and the bad feelings)
But surely not after midway in the 2007 season.

Reggie
is a scat-back, we the fans knew that when they brought him here. Who ever wrote that article has no clue. It’s not a knock on Reggie it’s a knock on Payton for putting him in that position and not using Deuce while he’s healthy.
Now the fumbles that’s another thing….
but as a member of the who dat nation – Reggie, Reggie, Reggie!!!!!!

as much as I feel what you feel Stujo...
and I can’t vouch for the games but I read a lot of Saints fans hating on Reggie constantly. Especially last year up until now. I mean I’ve heard everything from let PT and Deuce run it and putting Reggie in the slot (full time) to just using him as a punt returner. Personally, I can see, after watching all the beautiful USC games where he was just killing it, people were expecting that. And I’m sure if he came to a team that was built to block and ran there offense more balanced he might have actually lived up to that but he came in when Payton came in and so the line isn’t geared to run blocking nor is the offense coordinated to be balanced enough to get him sufficient carries. What’s Reggie’s average carries a game anybody know?

If you read the comments section on nola.com, you’ll see all kinds of weird sh*t. Calls to fire Payton, etc. You have to consider the source. The people here are pretty well informed and I don’t know of a single member of CSC who hates Reggie, for example. If you are out there, speak up.
Good point, TAY. What would Reggie do behind Denver’s zone blocking scheme, which makes superstars out of mediocre RB’s (lately, makes OK runners out of nobodies)??

that's what I'm talking about Stujo...
but no one wants to hear that , they just say, “3.6 yards—put Deuce in there” and yeah, this site is pretty professional and people, for the most part, think rationally. I just calculated and of these 5 games Reggie is averaging 12 carries a game. Now, with a more adept line, like what he was use to at USC, that would be fine. But in the pro’s where defenses are scheming for him (i.e. 8 in the box, spying on him) and a inept line, who is going to ball from that? People then say well look at a Felix Jones—who gets less carries and avgs about 9 a carry. But who is organizing their whole defensive team around Felix Jones?!!! And is Dallas’ line subpar or untrained in run blocking? I hope Payton runs Deuce a little more this game. Like 15 carries or more, just to see what happens and maybe highlight the fact that it doesn’t matter who it is the coordination of their offense isn’t going to get them a great running game.

Yahoo.com"
Of Bush’s 21 touchdowns, he has 11 rushing, six receiving and four on punt returns.
11 rushing, but none up the gut, right?

some may hate reggie
but its because of some form of ignorance. Some saw reggie as a savior and are bitter now. So, they hate him or failing to do what noone can do. Some think he whored himself out to stardom and pisses away his potential. Some think he should just do what running backs do. Get handed the football and run up the middle for 4 – 5 yards. Some people are just player haters.
To the first point, usc was a man among boys in the pac ten. Noone in the nfl can do in the nfl what reggie did in college. noone. Anyone who hates him for that is just ignorant. Im sorry, but its just not possible. The “go back to hollywood” comments, even bush admits he got a little caught up in it all, and has tried to tone it down and focus more and it is showing in better play on his part. So, thats partly understandable. some people just dont understand football. If thats what you want, trade duece and reggie to someone and get Brandon Jacobs, Lendale White, or Larry Johnson. But Im afraid 3 yards and a could of dust is no more. Especially with our oline.
I love Reggie. I love him because his is passionate. He wants to put on a good show. He is fast as hell. He can drop jocks in the open field. And he is maturing thoughtfully and coming to grips with how he fits and where his gifts can be used. The nfl was a big adjustment for him and he’s really coming along now. I want him to succeed for New Orleans sake and for Reggie’s sake.
