Winning record...here we come!! |
This one is key. A bubble game if you will. A win makes us 2-0 within the division and looking like the best 4-3 team I have ever seen. This game almost marks the probable return of some key players like Marques Colston and Jeremy Shockey. Lastly, it's also the game heading into the London matchup. Losing today will really be a downer for my weekend trip acorss the pond next weekend.
I hooked you guys up with some pre-game audio from Sports Talk with Bobby Hebert after the jump. Have fun with that.
I will be here today enjoying the game with you guys. For some of you who may be knew to CSC, I highly recommend checking in on the comment section of this post during the game today and perhaps taking part yourself.
Who Dat!?
Here are three audio clips from Sports Talk. The first is with coach Ed Orgeron, the second features Drew Brees and the third is Lance Moore
.

Huge game, we need to control Steve Smith and not let him beat us.
We need long sustained drives, so Deuce is going to be a key.
If we score 30, I think we win..

Slugfest
I see a lot of physicality today. Both teams seem to sense how much this one means. For The Saints, a win means 2-0 in the division and no worse than .500 at the bye even with all the injuries. If I’d have told you all the injuries before the year, you’d have taken .500 at this point.
For the Panthers, a chance to avenge last week’s loss to TB and a chance to one-up their primary division foe. don’t want to lose to both TB and NO in first part of the year
What up
Anyone know why WWL does not broadcast the game online?
It's better to die like a lion, than to live like a pussy
nfl copyright restrictions
you can pay $$$ on nfl.com and sign up to receive the broadcasts that way.

I'm getting pissed
We have a tv at work but no cable. Fox is coming in, but no sound, WWL broadcasts the pregame but no game coverage. UGGHH!!
It's better to die like a lion, than to live like a pussy
at work too
No TV, but have WWL. combine us and we are all good.
Taping the game at home in case of another Miracle.

Brees not as sharp
We could have converted that 3rd Down.
by SpindianSaints on Oct 19, 2008 12:23 PM CDT reply actions
3 stright incompletions by Brees
when is the last time that happened? not much commitment to the run there
Agreed
They need a little more balance to keep the defense honest

That was close
I am glad the Mike was on him

finally
a personal foul that actually gets called. i feel like i’ve seen reggie get punked on the sideline several times the last few weeks with no call
What is John Fox arguing?
Clear cut call.

Need a TD
FG will not due. Reggie running with conviction today

According to NFL Gamcenter
1-10 CAR21 (1:24) D.Brees pass short middle to T.Mehlhaff to CAR 16 for 5 yards (C.Gamble).
Bush is a monster: 8 TD's and 100 YPG.
Damn!
Stupid security guard wouldn’t let me in at my workplace! And once in, couldn’t find a feed!!!!
All set now baby.
Roman having a great half
He is all over the field

Colston
I can’r watch the game, but two targets and 0 catches…is it on him or Brees?
Bush is a monster: 8 TD's and 100 YPG.
We are being too cute
They are not stopping the run, ram it down their throat!!!

Piss poor defense
Gibbs Gumbo was undercooked.
by Steve the fan on Oct 19, 2008 12:55 PM CDT up reply actions
Clear indication of why we do not win on the road
had a chance to go up 14-3, have the momentum, fumble recovery cannot stop them on third down, now losing 10-7 and in a real dog fight. We want to be an elite team, we cannot make mistakes like this.

Poor playcall for the fumble
A TE screen to the hurt Shockey. Just double Steve Smith.
by Steve the fan on Oct 19, 2008 12:56 PM CDT up reply actions
was that
as bad on TV as it sounded on the radio? WWL really panning the play call on the Shockey fumble
YES
Shockey quick blocked and went out to catch the ball. Shockey was about 5 yds behind the line of scrimmage.
by Steve the fan on Oct 19, 2008 12:57 PM CDT up reply actions
we can't continue
to put ourselves in 3rd and longs
If I can see it
I know the Panthers can. Why not run up the middle with Deuce.
by Steve the fan on Oct 19, 2008 1:04 PM CDT up reply actions
The point is that they call the same play
every time on third and short. Mix it up.
by Steve the fan on Oct 19, 2008 1:07 PM CDT up reply actions
Yes BUT
that was for a TD not a first down.
by Steve the fan on Oct 19, 2008 1:09 PM CDT up reply actions
Maybe
they are saving it for the second half.
by Steve the fan on Oct 19, 2008 1:12 PM CDT up reply actions
I did not start him either
Started Lance Moore instead.. big mistake
by SpindianSaints on Oct 19, 2008 1:13 PM CDT up reply actions
Came in late today...
How did Shockey do overall? From the part I saw he still doesn’t make a believer out of me!
Play Calling
Can someone please explain to me the play calls on third and short. Reggie running the ball? C’mon!!!!
Maybe
to throw them off? They think run with Deuce and pass with Bush??
Bush is a monster: 8 TD's and 100 YPG.
by SaintsDynasty on Oct 19, 2008 1:34 PM CDT up reply actions
It seems that every time it is 3rd and less than 4
that it is a toss to Reggie to get him in space to run for the first down. I have no problem with the idea, it’s just that they call the same toss every time. Mix it up a little with a run up the middle with Deuce or a play action pass.
by Steve the fan on Oct 19, 2008 1:35 PM CDT up reply actions
Special Teams
Bears have had two huge special teams plays. One blocked punt and something that looked like a muffed kickoff for a td
On second thought
this shows no faith in the running game from Payton. If you can’t get 1 or 2 yds to get a first, you don’t deserve to win.
by Steve the fan on Oct 19, 2008 1:40 PM CDT up reply actions
Can we beat good teams?
At this point of the season, I am not sure, we beat TB, but that was before the season was really rolling, we have to be an elite team this year, the talent on the team is there, the execution so far this season has not.
Alright
I’m starting to get pissed – knock the F***ing ball down!
Oh and can we get a F***ING rush on jake please??!
Are Grant and Smith even playing in this game, because you wouldn’t know it from watching
They showed up to collect their paycheck
by Steve the fan on Oct 19, 2008 1:44 PM CDT up reply actions
This ain't working
We need wholesale changes on the defensive side.

Seems to happen every game.

says that holding is better than a sack.

Plays are taking too long
More quick throws
by Steve the fan on Oct 19, 2008 1:52 PM CDT up reply actions
This looks like the first few games of last year
Nobody open down field, Brees holding on too long, getting hit, defense getting rolled
We
lose the threat of Reggie then…

the defender stepped in and caught it

down by contact on the INT return

I think Payton pissed off the refs w/ his comments a couple of weeks ago. They never give us anything
Brees tried to throw that one time
and got nothing. We ought to punt on 3rd and short.
by Steve the fan on Oct 19, 2008 2:25 PM CDT up reply actions
Can we blitz.
We can’t cover the receivers. The front four aint getting there. Do something else GIBBS.
Yes
but try some stuff for the next game.
by Steve the fan on Oct 19, 2008 2:23 PM CDT up reply actions
Well...
1- I will most surely lose 5 pounds watching the game.
2- I won’t understad why Carolina got his ass kicked against the Bucs (Oh yeah, right: Jon Gruden)
3- I’ll make progress aiming at having a life besides the Saints.
TMG 42
What’s sad is that as much as he can’t cover, he’s the best playmaker on defense.

Here's what I want
a good, old-fashioned, expletive-filled, post-game press conference from Payton. Will I get it. NO.
It's not his style.

3 receivers with more than 10 yards
2 of those are tight ends. not good.
RIP to all those who started Colston today in fantasy
I started him and Brees in about 4 leagues each. I lost a bunch today.

God I'm depressed.
Will be a long ride home…Wait, could have been worst. I could be going to London….
Bad Feeling
I feel like we are looking at another 7-9, 8-8 season. We are just unable to get over the hump. If our offense is not at peak performance we have no chance of winning. This is very depressing.
