Vikings @ Saints: Game Predictions

dicecar18

We have a first time winner this week. Congratulations to dicecar18 who ran away with it this week by nailing the final score. Check out his cool avatar. For those of you who didn't know, Yoda is a huuuuuuuge Who Dat!

Also want to shout out to everyone for participating and for voting. We had 41 votes to decide the winner, about double what we normally see. I think part of that is keeping it to 3. Easy to read and for others to judge.

Now I turn it over to you guys, Start letting your 3 predictions fly. I highly encourage those of you out there who read but don't comment to finally come forward and pop your commenting cherry by throwing out a prediction. Let 'em rip guys!

Nice avatar

Yoda’s facial expression is basically the same one I had after finding out Ellis is out for this game. Should we blame Dan Dalrymple (Saints head Strength/Conditioning coach) for all of these injuries? I can’t force myself into believing it’s just a matter of team bad luck. Anyway, here’s my 3 best guesses for the Vikes game:

1. The obvious one: Brees puts up mega-sweet numbers: 3 TDs, 400+ passing yards, no INTs
2. Reggie gets a slew of short passes: 2 TDs, 80+ receiving yards, a punt return TD
3. The D holds Peterson to under 100 rushing yards

BONUS: Tony “Comb-over” Kornheiser will annoy the hell out of any Saints fan who doesn’t mute his TV and listen to the game on Saints Radio. He will repeatedly say Reggie isn’t living up to expectations and suggest he is a bust.

Go Saints!!!!

I'm such a comment ho, I can't even remember my last comment

Saints 32, Vikes 24

1) Saints hold AP to 3 or fewer rushing TD’s.
2) Brees throws for 300+ yds and 1 pick
3) McKenzie schools Berrian: less than 30 yds receiving

Tony Kornheisman makes stupid or annoying comments about Gumbo, Sir Saint, the Superdome, Bourbon Street, the place they went to dinner Sunday night, Reggie Bush, Deuce McAllister, Jaws’ new glasses, Mike Tirico’s pants, the guys in the truck, Sarah Palin, the Wall Street bailout, Pacman Jones, the New York Titans, his mother, how much Michael Imperioli looks like Glenn Frey in that new TV show, Gary Gibb’s defense, Sean Payton’s haircut, and Gandhi.

lol! Nice list!
how much Michael Imperioli looks like Glenn Frey in that new TV show

I don’t even know who these people are.

Go Saints!!!!

Christophuh from The Sopranos; Lead jerk from The Eagles

From the new TV show Life On Mars (ABC)

Glenn Frey-Eagles, circa 1975

damn!!!

He really does look like Frey… he should start a Eagles tribute band, can he play the guitar? (neither can Glenn Frey)

Predictions

1. McKenzie gets an INT
2. Deuce has 100+ rushing.
3. Meacham has a TD.

by Steve the fan on Oct 3, 2008 2:44 PM CDT reply actions

3-2

31-17 Saints

1. Brees 3 TDs ( 1 Bush, 1 Moore, 1 Meachem)
2. D gets a forced fumble & a pick
3. Deuce rushing TD, 10 for 63

by Brian.Corbett on Oct 3, 2008 2:45 PM CDT reply actions

reverse psychology worked last week....

1. Adrian Peterson rushes for over 200 yards
2. Drew Brees is injured and leaves the game….
3. Mark Brunell throws a TD pass

;-)

by kssaints on Oct 3, 2008 3:02 PM CDT reply actions

Saints make it 2 in a row...

Saints-31, Vikings-16

I’m looking for the defense to keep the ball rollin…

1. Grant picks up 2 sacks
2. MM makes Berrian look like a fool… 1 pick against Berrian and Berrian dissappears.
3. D keeps AP under 100 yds… I say between 65-75 yds.

by tlsk1066 on Oct 3, 2008 3:17 PM CDT reply actions

my guesses err predictions

Saints 35 – 27 ( was 19 till Ellis went down)

1 – AP gets 2 TD on the ground
2 – Brees gets 400 yards 3 TD
3 – Bush and Duece get 1 each

SAINTS WIN! SAINTS WIN!

Remember that 31-38 loss to Minnesota we had on sunday night football in 2004? Daunte Culpepper carved up our secondary to the tune of 400+ yards and 5 TDs? It was a pinball-type affair that saw us let them get up by 14 early, and then we mostly traded TDs back and forth for the rest of the game?

This game will be similar to that, but this time we will trade passing TDs for AP’s rushing TDs early for a while, before we make a few defensive stops late to hang on for the win, 34-31.

1) Brees tosses 2 TDs and hits 299 yards.
2) Reggie gets a TD on a goal-line misdirection trickeration play.
3) Jason David strips the ball from a receiver and runs it in for a defensive TD.
BONUS: AP has 180+ yards on the ground, but fumbles on their final drive and Brees takes a knee twice to run out the clock.

by HansDat on Oct 3, 2008 3:51 PM CDT reply actions

wow.... 2004?

Hans… man, you have to let these things go. You’ll never make it to 50 if you don’t practice some memory compartmentalization. Hey, we’ve got an Eagles thing going here today. Here’s a little Don Henley somethin’ to get you started:

You better put it all behind you baby; life goes on. You keep carryin’ that anger ; it’ll eat you up inside, baby. I’ve been trying to get down, to the heart of the matter…

by stujo4 on Oct 3, 2008 4:36 PM CDT up reply actions

Hans!!!!! you opened up my 1980's Saints memory compartment

All those close games, lost in the 4th quarter with a prevent defense… Dallas Cowboys… arrgh… where’s my Pepcid AC?

by stujo4 on Oct 3, 2008 4:39 PM CDT up reply actions

another 90's Saints memory compartment

That fantasy team in your league named Gil Fenerty. WHOA. Fenerty played in the CFL and then for us for a few years near the end of Mora’s run. I always liked him b/c of his interesting name and CFL history, and I wished he had had a better career with the Saints. In those days (post- Hilliard and post-Mayes) when our running game floundered, we had a string of running backs good for a couple of 100-yard games, but not much else and then they’d be gone after 3-4 years. Who else remembers Iron-Head Heyward, Ray Zellars, Mario Bates, Derek Brown, and Vaughn Dunbar?

Those that don’t remember history are doomed to repeat it.

Let these things go?

Did we let it go when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? (Animal House reference)

Good point Stujo, but what happens for me is that I remember these things to keep a healthy sense of perspective and understanding of the width and breadth of the history of our beloved franchise. No matter who our coach or players are, we will always have inexplicable losses and amazing wins. Nothing is impossible. Maybe that’s true for all pro teams, but I don’t really know because I only follow the Saints as rabidly as this.

WHO DAT, Baby, WHO DAT??!!!!!!

One prediction

Just have a feeling here. I’m not even going to try to predict the winner; but after four knuckle-biters, I think this game is going to be a blowout.

by MtnExile on Oct 3, 2008 3:57 PM CDT reply actions

Saints win 44 - 23

1)Drew throws 3 TDS and over 300 yards
2) Gramatica kicks 3 fgs, one over 50 yrds
3) Defense gets multiple Sacks and INTs

by pukenbowl on Oct 3, 2008 4:40 PM CDT reply actions

38-17 Saints

I just know our Bayou boys are going to heat it up for Monday night football!!

1. Brees 427 yrds with a 4 td’s
2. Deuce will bring power back to the running game, and punch it in on a 3rd and goal
3. Lance Moore with 2 TD’s, and will rack up 150+ yrds

It's better to die like a lion, than to live like a pussy

by #23fan on Oct 3, 2008 8:20 PM CDT reply actions

Saints 27, Vikes 24

You forget your history. The Saints are 8-16 on MNF. Gonna be a close one. Better watch in the other room so your significant other can’t hear your outbursts.

1. Porter has a pick for a TD.
2. Bush has his first big run from scrimmage: 40+yds TD
3. Grammatica (sp?) kicks the game winner!!!!

by dicecar18 on Oct 3, 2008 8:35 PM CDT reply actions

38-28 Saints Win

1) Reggie gets back that TD feeling, and throws the ball in the stands.
2) PT has his longest kick return thus far, scoring a TD
3) Not really going out on a limb on this one anymore, but Brees throws for 350+

Both the Saints and Holly-woo! improve to 3-2…

by Hollywoo! on Oct 3, 2008 9:45 PM CDT reply actions

Ok.. here's my guesses... lol

1… (MOST IMPORTANTLY)- I, along with my newborn daughter Alyana cheer our beloved, and her newly beloved Saints to a victory. 1a. She becomes overly aggitated my the sound of Tony K’s voice she’s granted permission to be excused from the remainder of the game due to fussyness… (Had to throw that one in)

Now for the predictions..
I got the Saints winning 42-31

1. Vilma comes up big, stopping AP.. 9 tackles- 2 solos
2. Duece & Reggie get loose.. Duece 2 rushing TD’s-Bush 115 all purpose yds..
3. Saints again, keep the giveaway streak intact 22games & counting? ouch.. but we win!

Bonus Guess and a history lesson

Yup. I totally took advantage of your 3-predictions limit. Feel free to mark me down in my final grade after the game. I pushed the envelope on that one. Ha!

I’m really pumped for this game. While it will be a long Sunday w/o a Saints game, Monday will be great I’ll get home from work, turn on ESPN, and then obsessively watch the MNF wall-to-wall coverage from 5:00 on. At some point I’ll need to eat and/or go to the bathroom, but I’ll pee off the side of that bridge when I come to it.

oops

I thought i was posting that above one right under Saintsational’s reply to mine.

by HansDat on Oct 4, 2008 10:37 AM CDT up reply actions

Congrats Dell!!!!!

Jut don’t feel that one but….

1- Drew, along with the WR’s crew, will seek respect putting indecent numbers on the board proving on prime time that HE IS the bet QB in the NFL right now.
2- Our DT position being so thin, Vilma won’t be able to stand the workloag against Peterson whom will run for way over 100 yrd.
3- I’ll finally lose first place on the Fun Office Pool cause I had the indecency of betting against my beloved Saints who will take it 34-24…

by FrenchFreak on Oct 4, 2008 8:56 PM CDT reply actions

Oops

Guess I’ve streched it a bit.

Couldn’t I get a freeB for not having english as my mother tongue (what a perfect excuse)? What’s that you say? No excuses this year?

Agreed…

BHAAAAM BHAAAAM BHAAAM BHAAAM BA BHAM BA BHAM

That’s close enough to the MNF theme, I would like to see suggestions and I say we vote on a winner of “Most accurate MNF theme in words….or letters.”

So my father-in -law is a Minnesota fan, he is also the owner of Sunday Ticket. The price I pay for child care is chumming it up with Grandps watching football on Sundays. I could be an ass and let him know that how I feel like when he watches the commercials of the Vikings game while the Saints are marching in. But after you kindly remind him four times in the first half, you can’t help but feel like an ass. The good news is, I know what we are going into, so here it goes….

1) AP RUNS FOR A LONG WAY! Ya’ll, this guy is a beast, and we can’t tackle.
He AVGs 6.5 ypc and goes over 100 at the end of the day
2) Without EJ Henderson the Saints run for over 150yds
3) I don’t know exactly how, but the secondary wins the game. Either a pick at the end, or
their performance throughout the game, or something. But when you look back at the
end we’ll say the secondary won that game for us.

by asaint on Oct 4, 2008 10:47 PM CDT reply actions

Saints 24, Mn 17

Brees hits Meach, Bush and Billy Miller for TDs.
Bush has 40 yards rushing, 90 receiving.
Moore has 5 catches for 80 yards.

Peterson gets 170 yards and 1 td. Berrian scores 1 td.

by xen-cuts on Oct 4, 2008 11:50 PM CDT reply actions

we're better than we think...

Payton is gradually improving on his playcalling, we’re gradually getting players back and Brees is killing

1. Game not close Saints win by at least 21 points

2. Deuce’s power opens it up for Reggie for a combined rush of 140 yds on ground

3. Peterson gets 90 yds but doesn’t avg. 4ypc because they keep running and we have 8 in box and their passing sucks.
