NFL Field Pass

Hey!  Do any of you out-of-staters obsessed with the Saints get the NFL Field Pass? It's offered on the nfl.com site.  For a pretty reasonable price, you can subscribe for the season and then listen to Jim and Hokie call the game on your computer while you watch the stats get updated in front of your very eyes.  You can also see all the current scores for the rest of the league, too, and jump to box scores of the games if you want to check your fantasy players.

I used this in the years before I got DirecTV to get Sunday Ticket, and it was fantastic.  In fact, for the 2000 season, it was actually FREE.  I got to listen to all the games that weren't televised in Louisville during that magical surprise season in Haslett's 1st year.

And that reminds me of our history with Minnesota in the playoffs.  Oh, no, Stujo, I'm recalling bad blowout losses to them in our  playoff appearances following the 1987 and 2000 seasons.  Sometimes my gift is a curse.

You know, Bill Clinton is a GREAT compartmentalizer<< no politics, just fact

Hans, you may not know about my conflict with Cox cable, but I despise them. I rank Field Pass only 1 notch better than Cox. I still carry that grudge, grind that ax, because they made it a pay service when NFL.com used to offer it for free. Has it been that long, 2000? Since it was free? Yeah, I listened too and it was good to hear local radio call a Saints game. But I’ll probably cut off my little toe before I’ll pay for it.

As we celebrate mediocrity all the boys upstairs want to see,
How much you’ll pay for what you used to get for free. -Tom Petty

By the way, AT&T Uverse fiber optic broadband TV and internet just hit my neighborhood. I may be kissing Cox goodbye.

Hey Stu...

whats with all the music quotes. You are picking some good ones. I thought I was the only one who even KNEW “The Last DJ” by Tom Petty (probably his worst album to date). If we’re being honest, that song is in reference to the music industry, not television. :-P

Tom Petty is my second favorite artist behind the Stones. Petty was my first concert ever when I was like 13. My favorite song at the time was “Yer So Bad” from Full Moon Fever. Never thought he would play it because its really not popular. Of course in the middle of the show, he starts talking about how his cousin is in the audience that night and says “Yer So Bad” is his cousin’s favorite song and starts playing it. I freaked out. One of the best moments of my life. I digress.

If you haven’t listened to it already, you need to check out “Highway Companion.” I think it came out within the last year. Very good. Tom found his old song writing skills and came out with something good.

TP, Jeff Lynne, Dylan, Harrison, Orbison... they're all in my world

TP was convinced Last DJ was his best album ever, bragged about it. Another example of the artist being too close to his work. It was a disappointing effort. Also incredibly depressing.

LOVE Highway companion!

Well, the captain, who swears if he speaks at all, wears a gun.
Got a first mate, who’s never quite on the ball, for a son.

The old man boss at my previous job was just like that, swore like a sailor (in private) and loved guns. His worthless son, who became my boss after he got out of graduate school, is the guy who said Reggie Bush will never make it in the NFL. TP speaks to ME!!

And I do appropriate his lyrics without regard for his intention or context, btw.

I was just thinking about Jagger earlier today. Completely overrated. And faggy. Unlike another hero of mine, Ray Davies. Ray’s just funny. Funny ha ha, not funny queer. But yes, I know I am virtually alone in my disregard for the Stones. When you have time, explain Exile On Main Street to me because I honestly do NOT get it. Turd On The Run??

I believe this is the conflict you are referring to...

http://www.canalstreetchronicles.com/2008/8/4/586242/do-i-need-cox-to-turn-on-t

Here is my favorite part from asaint…

PREACH! I’m still rolling about the ‘hostile customer’. I actually stayed on my cell phone one time while I was being pushed to ‘irrate customer’ status, and drove to my local COX office to met the prick I was on the phone with at the time. I walked in, right up to the counter and asked to speak with Tim, she came back and said he was on the phone. I said "I know", of course she looked at me funny, then walked away. Tim put me on hold, and then came out. He wasn’t the condesending prick on the phone anymore, he was a concerned manager all of a sudden. Try it, it works, it’s great fun, and you can even try it with the whole family

Wow, so much to comment on here

1. I subscribed to NFL Field Pass just for the preseason games this year, since I couldn’t watch them on my DirectTV Sunday Ticket package at that time. I called to cancel it just before the regular season (of course their call center reps are in frickin’ India and are barely understandable). Nevertheless, I saw an extra $9.95 charge for it on my credit card bill last night. The bastards were trying to sneak one by me! So, I called first thing this morning and went off on the poor Indian bastard who answered my call. He was pretty adamant that it would indeed be canceled this time and they would credit my card $9.95 in 5-7 working days. May God help them if they don’t. My advise to anyone would be to stay away from NFL Field Pass. It was no accident that they billed me for one more month. They were just hoping I wouldn’t notice it. Besides, I think you can still listen to Saints games at WWL’s website, so there’s no need for it. I only wish I had known that back in August.

2. I’m not a big Stones fan either, but I do love “Paint it Black” and a couple others. When it comes to rock music, I’m more into Metallica and other groups that help me relive my teenage headbangin’ days during the 80’s and 90’s. I do like Tom Petty though. I suddenly feel old.

3. Yes, both Cox and Comcast cable are run by the devil himself. So far, I haven’t had any problems with DirectTV. For NFL fans outside of their favorite team’s broadcast area, it’s the only way to go.

Go Saints!!!!

WIldflowers is....

One of the most under rated albums ever. I absoluetly love it.

It’s to move on, it’s time to get going
What lies ahead I have no way of knowing
Under my feet baby, the grass is growing
It’s to move on, it’s time to get going

But the Last DJ does blow pretty hard.

WIldflowers is excellent- the predivorce album, I think

Echo is the divorce album. Great art often comes from deep suffering. You know another overlooked gem? Soundtrack to She’s The One. I know! Edward Burns is a dick. But that’s a great CD.

Saints content:

i think...

you all may be able to bypass the whole “paying for Saints Radio”. If you go to wwl.com, you can stream it. Not sure if they stream every game, but I think they do.

so long?

I loved listening to them . hard to believe it was 2000.

I used to turn off my TV volume and listen to the games . Was great.
