Morten Andersen Wants to Kick for Saints One More Time

Here's a little something off topic today but I thought was pretty interesting.

I just found this article from the Detroit Free Press about Morten Andersen and his desire to set the record for being the oldest player ever in the NFL.

Andersen hopes to return for a final game Dec. 7 and kick one extra point for the New Orleans Saints (for whom he played 13 seasons) when they host the Atlanta Falcons (for whom he played eight seasons).

On Dec. 7, Andersen would be 48 years, 110 days old. George Blanda was 48 years, 109 days old when he played his final game for Oakland on Jan. 4, 1976.

What do you guys think about this? I'm especially interested to hear what some of you old school fans have to say.

Morten Andersen...

is old school? I remember Archie, Chuck Muncie, Wes Chandler… anyway, i don’t know what kind of precedent that might set for other teams with a one game “roster exemption”. I can see that getting abused big time. Otherwise, I’m all for it.

Hey kssaints, I saw your gold Ford Fusion with the Saints license frame on Tyler Road this morning

Morten won a few games by himself, pretty much. However, there is no one in the Saints organization who was around when he played here. Unless he has somehow kept in touch (does he have a home in New Orleans? I doubt it.), he will likely get the cold shoulder from Payton. You think Loomis is going to overrule Payton and get The Dane signed for 1 game, for the fans’ benefit? I don’t see it happening.

Wikipedia:

In January 2006, Andersen was inducted as the first member of the Danish American Football Federation Hall of Fame.

First and only?

Stujo-4...

I can’t tell if you are being serious or not, while I am indeed in Kansas, I do not have a Saints license frame, and I’ve never heard of Tyler Road. Kansas is a big state ya know. :-)

just taking a shot

I figure that there are so few Saints fans in Kansas that when I see a Saints tag on a car, and I know it’s not mine, it’s probably yours. I’m in Wichita.

Let him kick a game

If Gramatica becomes inconsistent around that time, then, HELL YEAH, let him kick a game. If we’re playing hard to secure a top seed in the playoffs at that time, then, HELL NO, keep him off the field. Regardless of the situation then, I doubt Payton would want to waste time and a roster spot with it. He’s too focused and professional to do something like that.

Go Saints!!!!

Leave it up the guy who loses his roster spot and game check

“Well, you see, we know it means a lot to you, and you have a mortgage and a baby on the way, but this old dude was a Saint long, long ago, and when he saw Brett Favre take a dive for Michael Strahan he realized how easy it can be to set a record. All he needs is someone to take a dive for him…financially speaking. So in this scenario, you’re Brett Favre! I mean, that’s got to be the highlight of your career, right? So, did you bring your playbook?”

he's not worth a roster spot

but if he wants to do this, he should do it!

This is a gimmick

I’m normally a sentimental guy, but this is a bad idea. If he breaks the record this way, then the record won’t really count for anything. Blanda set that record playing and playing well, and playing for a long time. He didn’t get a gimmicky roster spot late in the season on a team that he wasn’t already playing for and giving his all. I just think we’d be inviting some bad mojo if we go after this…

after tonights game....

they don’t need a kicking competition…

The offense is good enough to get it down to the 20-25 yardline for the Ole’ Goat….They should sign him to the league minimum for the rest of the year, and they can free up a roster spot by Releasing that putz gramatica…. His ass should’ve never been picked up by us as inconsistant as he’s been since leaving the Bucs… They knew what they were doing when they released him

First, lets get rid of Gramatica,
