Ask Acme Packing Company
Below is a FanPost written by Brandon of Acme Packing Company. Go ahead and ask him any Packer related question that comes to mind like say, "Which Aaron would you rather have on your team? Rodgers or Brooks?" Also, be sure to check out my FanPost at APC and help me answer some questions or stop by just for some good natured razzing.

Hey, I'm Brandon from Acme Packing Company, the SB Nation blog for fans of the Green Bay Packers. I'm here to take and answer any questions you might have about the Packers.
Unfortunately my knowledge of the Saints v.2008 is very limited because I haven't watched any of their games this season. I wrote this post earlier in the week, and it's pretty much the extent of my knowledge about them. So I don't have the answer to any matchup type questions.
But I can answer any Packer related questions (e.g. Is QB Aaron Rodgers for real? Yep.)
The Packers are coming into Monday night on a major high after crushing division rival Chicago 37-3. It was the first time Chicago lost in Green Bay since 2003. But they're 0-2 against the NFC South this season. They lost a close one at home to Atlanta 27-24 in week 5 and their worst loss of the season was their 30-21 loss at Tampa in week 4.

Do you remember
in the movie “Alien” where Tom Skerritt asks the computer, “What are my chances?” That’s about all I can think to ask.
Will Aaron Rodgers not have a career game against the Saints’ secondary?
Oh, and one other, out of mere curiosity: how’s Patrick Lee looking this year?

About Rodgers and Lee
Just using the flawed NFL QB rating as a guide, Rodgers had a QB rating of 117 (328 yards and 3 TDs) against Detroit in week 2. That was arguably Rodgers’ best game as a pro, and the poor Detroit secondary might be a fair comparison to the Saints. But he also had all day to throw against Detroit in that game, so a lot depends on how much pressure the Saints bring.
The pride of Auburn, CB Pat Lee, was the Packers 2nd round pick back in April. He had a lousy preseason, but was given a pass because of his high draft status. A few weeks ago he got some playing time for a couple of games because of injuries in the secondary, and he played pretty good. He reminds me of Al Harris. But now the secondary is healthy so Lee is buried deep on the bench and shouldn’t be seen much on Monday night.

If he reminds you of Al Harris
he’s definitely a keeper. The reason I ask is I was hoping he’d be on the Saints’ draft list. I didn’t think he’d go as high as the second round…live and learn.

Totally selfish question
As a Texas fan, has Jermicheal Finley done anything this year? Any buzz about him? He seemed destined to be a stud at Texas, but I think he probably left a year too early…

2008 is not his year
TE Jermichael Finley was taken by the Packers in the 3rd round last April, and he probably did come out too early. But the Packers prefer smaller tight ends, Finley’s a receiver and not a big blocking TE, so he’s a very good fit. He has made a couple rookie mistakes and he is given little to do most games. But you can tell the Packers believe in the guy. He finally got some playing time at Tennessee a couple weeks ago and early in the game the Packers decided to go for it on 4th down, and they called a play for Finley (it wasn’t his fault, but Tennessee was all over it). Later in the game, Finley had his first career reception. He should be a bigger part of the offense in 2009.

You'd be much happier if you worked for Acme OYSTER Company!
Grant looks like an amazing running back, but is he doing all the work or is the o-line making the push? How is the o-line?
How is the Packer secondary on defense?
Is Rogers really dependable as qb?

Grant and Rodgers
The offensive line is better in pass blocking than run blocking, but they’ve gotten better as the season has gone on. LT Chad Clifton and C Scott Wells were both hurt earlier in the season. It’s been a bad season for Grant because he injured his hamstring early in training camp and it’s taken him most of the season to get over it. He’s finally gotten healthy in the last month. Over the last three games the o-line and Grant have both gotten as healthy as they’ve been all season and they’ve all had looked great on rushing plays over the last three weeks. It’s not just the o-line or Grant. They both need each other to look good.
The Packers’ secondary has been outstanding. Their top 3 safeties and top 3 cornerbacks have all played great this season.
Rodgers is dependable. He’s played through a tough shoulder injury and the pass offense never struggles because of him. The passing game struggles when the o-line can’t block, which happens from time-to-time, they had an awful game protecting him against Minnesota, and when the receivers struggle to get open. WR Greg Jennings is having a fantastic season, but the rest of the Packer receivers are either having down seasons or aren’t too productive.

We used to have an Aaron for A QB
How have the fans treated him so far? I mean, look at his situation – He’s following a living legend, took over a 13-3 team, he’s had an injury to his shoulder, and the team is currently 5-5. I don’t know his game by game stats, but I’m sure he’s had both good and bad performances – have the fans been willing to give him a chance, or have they been on his case like white on rice?
Thanks for coming over to our site and giving us your insights!

Aarons
I always wanted QB Aaron Brooks to succeed since the Packers drafted him. Stories about him still pop up on occasion when a reporter asks Mike McCarthy a question and it reminds him of something that happened when he was the Saints’ offensive coordinator.
I think it really helped Rodgers that Favre retired and then tried to come back. A lot of Packer fans felt jerked around by Favre, probably a lot of the players too since they had all been practicing all offseason while Favre had been hanging out in Mississippi. It might have been a problem if Rodgers was making the Packers choose between him or Favre. It almost came to that, it was rumored that Rodgers would never consider a contract extension after 2009 if Favre came back in 2008. The first criticism I read about Rodgers was recently when he didn’t have a great game against Tennessee’s outstanding defense. But that blew over pretty quickly. It would have gone poorly if it had happened in 2005 or 2006 when Rodgers would not have been ready.

3 rambling questions
1) Thinking ahead, who is your starting RB for 2009? I kept Ryan Grant over Earnest Graham in my fantasy keeper league and I’m still not happy about it, I can’t believe Grant is a long term solution. Will Brandon Jackson take his job next year? How about Kregg Lumpkin, does he have a chance?
2) I really like Rodgers and I’m pleased that he has stepped up and made the Favre matter a nonissue, as far as I’m concerned. I just hope he has the worst game of this season on Monday night, that’s all. I wrote a lot of crap about Favre here in preseason. Did he really offer no support or advice to Rodgers while they were both on the roster? I heard Favre treated him worse than the towel boy.
3) Remember linebacker George Koonce? That’s my late father-in-law’s name. He was always tickled to see a giant black man with Koonce on his jersey when the Packers were on TV. He was a smallish white man, you see. Anyway, your defense is 3rd against the pass and 27th against the run, 16th overall. Is that why you’re 5-5, you can’t stop the run? The Bears game was a fluke, or not? That’s more than 3 questions, but you must answer (call me Chris Matthews).

3 rambling answers
1. It will still be Grant. He’s looked much better the last three weeks since his hamstring injury has been fully healed. His stats might not be eye popping, except for last week against Chicago, but he’s ran well against three straight great run defenses (Tennessee, Minnesota, and Chicago). Plus Mike McCarthy prefers bigger backs like Grant, and prefers smaller backs like Brandon Jackson in a reserve role. The coaches liked Lumpkin, but the injury problems that plagued him at Georgia seem to have followed him to the NFL, which is never a good sign.
2. The idea of Favre as a mentor was always a joke. It wasn’t his personality. Plus Favre isn’t exactly a student of the game, his gunslinger rep is well deserved. If anything, I wouldn’t be surprised if Favre learned things about the offense from Rodgers. It was also generational, Rodgers is closer in age to Favre’s daughter than to Favre. As all the players left over the past 15 seasons, Favre slowly lost all his clubhouse buddies and he just didn’t have a lot in common with the rest of the team in 2006 and 2007 when the Packers were the youngest team in the NFL.
3. Koonce was a big fan favorite. It was sad when he blew out his knee right at the end of one of the Packers 1990s Super Bowl seasons and just wasn’t the same guy again (although he did play for four more seasons). The run defense has absolutely been the biggest problem. I talked a lot about it in this post three weeks ago, but the Packers lost another close game since then (at Minnesota) when the run defense let them down late in the game. If the Packers run defense was as good as it was last season, then the Packers might be 9-1. I can’t exactly explain why the run defense has collapsed, it’s basically the same personnel and they’re all healthy and young. I also don’t expect them to suddenly return to form against the Saints after they had struggled for the first 10 games. Nobody has blown out the Packers, Dallas beat them by 11 and Tampa by 9, and I would expect the Saints best chance at winning is that they keep the score close and run the ball late to keep the Packers offense off the field.

I wonder what you consider a student of the game to be
I’ve heard several players including Greg Jennings marvel at the fact that he not only knows the assignments of every person on the offense but often the defense as well. i can remember him giving about a 5 minute answer on the differences in the cover-2 and how different teams play it.
But hey, lets hear something you think he might have learned from Rodgers?

Are you talking about Favre? He scored a 22 on the Wonderlic. I don’t think I’d go so far as to refer to him as a “student”.

interesting data point to make a decision on
This says it better:
“I’ve despised Brent Faver for years… I think he has to admit that it is over. It’s my understanding that he has not does not even address Aaron Rodgers by name, they don’t speak, which takes me back to why I don’t like him. That’s not a team player… Yeah, bring it on. I don’t think either Delhomme or Favre can beat the Saints this year. I would savor destroying both of them this year, one in Charlotte and one in NOLA.”
Packers and Jets both, I’d say you’d be hard pressed to find a single player including Aaron Rodgers who doesn’t say he’s a total team player. I love how you’ve taken a single statement and inflated it to Zeppelin like proportions.

whew! That's a lot of google entries to pore over but here's 2 more
But the notion of Favre possibly reaching out, unsolicited, to offer a scouting report of the Packers to a team he doesn’t play for didn’t sit well with at least one former teammate.
“He contacted them? I don’t respect that,” cornerback Charles Woodson said
Packers wide receiver Ruvell Martin shared Woodson’s concern.
“If it’s true, then you’ve got to question motives,” Martin said. "I don’t know what to say.

Again, you don't seem to know anything about even a recent story
The evidence claiming that he “gave the playbook” to the Lions is nothing more than a distortion of the Glazer claim. It was a huge story here and every Joe who ever played a down was asked about it and other than one loser it was considered silly even laughable that he could even do it if he wanted.
Several elements of the Glazer claim were denied and rather than address it, Glazer just slimed him and evaded questions. I think I heard him about 5 or 6 times on local radio and he never responded but instead would say that because Favre called his story “bullshit” and he admitted taking a call from Millen that somehow Favre was admitting something.
FWIW, the Martin comment which I’ve heard in total isn’t condemning either. Martin and Favre were also big buddies. I’d go to the NFL website and dig up the videos that show the two of them together including slapping butts in the locker room. And of course the word “if” is defining to the statement – not to haters though.

you're obviously going off your personal feelings
It would be more worthwhile if you could say the real reason that you despise him. Mark Chmura was extremely bitter that Favre didn’t maintain their relationship after Chmura was charged with sex crimes when he was sitting around in a hot tub with high school girls while his wife and kids were not far away. The crux of the case was whether he penetrated the young girl after following her into a bathroom. Surprisingly the video of him looking creepy going into the bathroom didn’t overcome his celebrity status.
I listen to Chmura a couple hours or more every week. I doubt he would come close to your characterization despite the single statement that extrapolates into some other hater making a story out of it. And again its the whole retirement thing not his play on the field or preparation.

Rogers
is actually a “total team” player. It’s what GB is all about. They let self-serving trash serve themselves to the curb or to other desperate teams where their actions are praised and paid. Favre is selfish, if you paid attention to this years Retirementgate, you’d understand that while #4 was airing out every comment from every conversation between him and the office, he was doing so in the hopes of being traded. If any of Brett’s actions this year were for anything other than the end-result being a trade, I’d like to know what they were.

Green Bay is all about Ted Thompson
Thompsongate leaves me with the impression that Favre is selfless. He didn’t air out every comment, but Thompson did. He just used the media to leak stories that turned out to be lies or distortion. Whenever it comes time for him to man up and represent himself and the team, he mumbles and evades. Saying “I did what was good for the Packers” isn’t answering. Does he ever answer a question about anything?
Rodgers is a system quarterback. He’s good but not much more than that. Take away the receivers and backs and McCarthy’s game planning, he would be okay. How good was Aaron Brooks? He did pretty well here for a while with really one top notch receiver.

the Favre not helping Rodgers is a complete myth
Rodgers, McCarthy and Favre all say its BS. Favre and Rodgers constantly worked together. I don’t think I aver saw a game where they weren’t looking at Polaroids or talking about who knows what on the sideline. A whole bunch of backup Packers QBs have gone on to play and I don’t think I’ve ever heard anything but fondness and praise. If you got to NFL.com and dig around in the videos they have one where a few sit down and reminisce.

Lol, people have such a distorted view of Wisconsin. I’m originally from there (Beloit) and I’ve been saying it for years. Don’t get me wrong I understand you think of Wisconsin you think of big overweight, beer drinking cheeseheads. You’d be surprised man…they are bigger and drink more beer than you think!!!
