Target acquired: Michael Silver
Michael Silver (who is to web journalism what Tony Kornheiser is to in-game analysis) of Yahoo Sports has predicted that the Detroit Lions will not go winless this year. So who will they beat?
So mark it down: Detroit will somehow pull out a victory over Drew Brees and company.
Let's be reasonable about this: there is, of course, the possibility that Silver will turn out to be right. Even the worst teams sometimes pull off upsets. But I post this so that everyone will be aware of the fact, and be ready to lambaste Silver mercilessly when the Saints blow out Detroit four days before Christmas.
Sportswriters who spend the bulk of their time making predictions--as opposed to explaining what happened and possibly why--are a bunch of frauds, and they don't get called out on their failures nearly as often as they should. In any other business, being wrong so often would result in living under a bridge. Even weathermen have a better success ratio (I exempt St. Nash of WDSU from my scorn).
So be ready to pour it on Silver when the time comes. And if he turns out to be right...crow tastes pretty good in red gravy. Maybe with a little eggplant dressing on the side and some bread pudding...mmmmm...

I have many Detroit fan friends.
I am going to the game with them.
They are all trying to put me at ease saying there is NO way that the Lions will win the game.
Myself, I am a Saints fan. Monday night up by 20+ and I tell the people in the room who are laughing at my worried look. This is the Saints we are watching.
They all started nodding and stopped laughing at me.
We are Saints fans and there is no suger coating the simple fact that we lose for no good reason any given Sunday. We should be 16-0. We never are.
Can Detroit beat us? Yup. Especially if they are winless still.
Can we beat them? For sure, and we had better crush them so my friends dont get to laugh at me for another couple of years.

Excellent MT!
Glad you’re going. We expect a “View From Section xxx” post from you including atmosphere of Ford Field and any CSC fan jersey rule violations.
Saints have to take the Lions seriously and prepare to win this game, it’s not a gimme by any means.

What's the fan jersey rule?
My wife and I will be sporting our Reggie and Drew jersey’s…
BTW, my wife said she wants to make a sign that reads:
“HEY DREW, I CAME UP HERE TO SEE YOU..
BUT MY HUSBAND LOVES BUSH!!”
It might get us on TV…

jerseys- wasn't a Saints Donte Stallworth the root of this issue?
You know: No loser has beens. I saw a Saints 12 Babe Laufenberg in Denver, should’ve called him on it. “Dude, turn that inside out.”
A Lions Artose Pinner jersey would qualify in this sense. That would be bullshit.
Do the sign, if your seats are low enough or close to the rail, you’ve got a chance.

oh I can't let this one go either
Guys, you have to have some level of confidence. I understand, believe me. I thought it was just me all those years. But it hit home when I saw the old man next to me praying in the second half of the 2006 Eagles playoff game. Whoa. That is some damaged, disappointed fan.
I felt pretty confident during the Packers game. You HAVE to be confident to win. If you think you might lose it (prevent defense), you will. It’s been proven.
And I know it hurts to be disappointed with a loss. Boy do I know, the Denver game hurt me deeply this year. But we have to be positive, and show some confidence in our boys including Jason David. He’s playing better than the latter day Fred Thomas, and that’s a good thing.

I'm going to that game too...
Flying up from Houston. You might ask yourself “Why in the hell would he pick the Detroit game to see?”
Brother-in-law lives up there, and he sprung $400 for the tickets. Who am I to look a gift horse in the mouth…

I think he means
“I just pray we’re still in playoff contention at that point and a win isn’t meaningless.”

Oh hell, I like 8-8 a LOT better than 7-9, they’re ALL meaningful.

Section 132.. I think
My friend told me where we were awhile back but cant find the email now.
Looking at the seating chart… I know its lower bowl, so Section 132 rings a bell.

Didn't
We hand St. Louis its first victory last year…?

Watching this rout of the Lions, I was just thinking about the anxiety I'll have...
…when we face this Detroit team in December.
Two things:
1) I think I posted something in August about the Saints and losing to Tampa Bay in 1977 for their first ever franchise win (after going 0-14 in 1976). And we lost to 0-8 St. Louis Rams last season (which someone has already mentioned).
2) In 2002, we were 9-5 and needed only one win in our last 3 games to make the playoffs. On a Sunday in late December, I drove from Louisville, KY, with 2 Bengals fans friends of mine from college, up north to a cold Paul Brown Stadium. The Cincinnati Bengals were on their way to a 2-14 season, and didn’t stand a chance. Well, we played a terrible game and lost, and the season spiral down the toilet bowl continued. This season-ending 4-game losing streak has been chronicled and re-imagined in Haslett’s recent revelations about AB’s shoulder injury during that season.
So, I will always have some sense of unease, every time we play a “bottom feeder.”
But I will always have hope and the desire and the drive for the Saints to win.

It's not just that
How many records have come against the Saints? Walter Payton breaking Jim Brown’s rushing record, for instance.
I’m with you…I’ve been around since the beginning, and I know all about the Saints’ propensity for giving away games to the needy. When we named them “Saints”, after all, Fate sat up and took notice. (“Really? Is that the way you want it? Then so be it!”) Ever since then we’ve been a very charitable franchise.

and just to show the bittersweet nature of the Saints...
It’s not just that
How many records have come against the Saints? Walter Payton breaking Jim Brown’s rushing record, for instance.
When OJ went for 2000 yards we were one of 3 teams to hold him under 100 that season. We beat the Bills 13-0 and Juice had only 79 rushing yards.
So, to enjoy the sweet times with the Saints, you also have to endure the bitter.
