DeAngelo Hall, available. Can we get him??
The Oakland Raiders' decision to waive DeAngelo Hall just eight games after signing him to a $70 million contract brought surprised reactions from his teammates who now wonder even more about the future of the franchise.
"I've never been in a situation where you cut one of the best players," said safety Gibril Wilson, another of the team's offseason acquisitions. "That's strange to me. It's almost like we're throwing in the towel."
The Raiders waived Hall on Wednesday, bringing a disappointing end to a short tenure in Oakland. The Raiders sent a second-round draft pick in 2008 and a fifth-rounder next season to Atlanta in March to acquire Hall, who immediately was given a seven-year contract.
Hall was supposed to form one of the top cornerback duos in the league with Nnamdi Asomugha, but struggled from the start of the season as he adjusted to the Raiders' man-to-man defense.
Hall had shown signs of improvement in recent weeks, but was let go anyway following a 24-0 loss to the Falcons that dropped Oakland to 2-6 on the season.
Is there anyway we can pick up Hall?? Come now CSC make the call, I know you got to know somebody.

I'm not
exactly sure how the wavier wires work, but the question is more so HOW can we get him? HOW can we afford him?? We have an upcoming star in Porter, Madd Max is good. What do we do cut all the others, except for U. Young?? That could be a plan, but how does the money figure in all this…….

Muuuu-nay!
I think the above poster has it right. If he’s willing to swallow his yap and sign a reasonable deal, I think he should be in here in a heartbeat.
However…
If he’s going to demand the money he got from the Raiders, we don’t want him.

already discussed in Fanshot below
Hall is sure to be signed by the end of the season, but it won’t happen until 31 teams decline to claim him and he passed through waivers. His best option would be to sign a deal for around the minimum to play for a contender and rehab his value. Hall is only 24 and could still get a solid deal next offseason.

Waived cornerback DeAngelo Hall told NFL Network’s Steve Wyche that he’s in no rush to sign with a team for the stretch run.
Contending teams in need of CB help that may show interest include Miami, New England, the Jets, Indianapolis, Dallas, Denver, New Orleans, and Arizona. The list of suitors is long, but Hall should look for an environment where he won’t be tempted to run his mouth. There are plenty of teams that won’t consider him just because of his attitude, let alone contract demands.

here's some more. Why would we want him?
In 8 games this year, Hall has been beaten 40 times for 552 yards on 66 passes thrown his way, according to STATS LLC. He gave up more yards than any defender this season and was tied for 3rd worst in catches allowed.

Well
Living out here in SoCal or so called radar nation listening to local talk radio, they are saying, that organization has a way of making really good players play well below expectation. I think we all know that the cat is talented, and given the chance to play agents the Cruddy birds, I think he as Randy Moss did raises back to his full potential. That is a gamble that I would really love to see us take. Don’t know how we do it, but where there’s a Hall there’s a way.

Is DeAngelo Hall the new Lito Sheppard?
I think we’d be better off overpaying and cussing Sheppard.

Why not BOTH?
Could we trade Joey Harrington to Philly for Lito?

rotoworld.com:
Eagles CB Lito Sheppard was held out of practice Wednesday with a groin injury but hopes to be ready by Sunday.
Sheppard said he might run through a limited practice Thursday. If he does, it’s safe to count on him playing against the Giants. Fantasy-wise, we wouldn’t count on him at all. The nickel back has just 13 tackles and one interception through eight games this season.

again I say, let's go after somebody GOOD
rotoworld.com:
NFL.com’s Adam Schefter reports that the Raiders fully anticipate slapping the franchise tag on CB Nnamdi Asomugha again this offseason.
Those selfish Raiders. Asomugha, who’s been targeted by offenses on only about 10 plays this year, will make roughly $11.7 million in 2009 if he’s franchised again. The Raiders ought to shop him. Asomugha turns 28 before next season and Oakland needs all the draft slots it can get. They are down second-, third-, and fifth-round draft picks due to awful previous trades.

rotoworld.com:
NFL Network’s Adam Schefter confirms that DeAngelo Hall cleared waivers on Thursday and is an unrestricted free agent.
Schefter believes that a deal will get done between a team and Hall within the next 24-48 hours so he can learn the system and start playing by Week 11. The Patriots appear to be the most likely team to show interest and it would be a sound fit. Humble Pie is exactly what the headcase corner needs.

whew
thank whoever you pray to that we didnt get this clown.
I dont think any ‘named’ CB that gets cut or is tradebaited mid season is going to make a difference for us this year.
I think we need to work one in from the market after season or draft one. I like Porter. Yah he gets burnt but he was progressing nicely. Next season he could be .. something. MM is getting long in the tooth and … please dont shoot me… is only as good as he is becaue noone trys to throw to him, not because they fear him, they just know the other side is softer. If your running for the train do you try the open door or the half open door. Both can be gotten thru… just ones easier.
If we do pick someone up that CAN play man to man then we have options. Maybe slidding MM back to a S position and letting him protect those young corners.

I think MM is in the top 1/4 of corners around the league. he defends without a pass rush. do you think some of the better CBs around the league such as Sheldon Brown, Assante Samuel, Ronde Barber, etc etc would be any good without a pass rush? Makes all the difference inthe world.

An excellent suggestion
Making McKenzie free safety, that is. This was floated preseason, as I recall. With Porter coming back, if we can pick up another good corner (or if Gay develops as we hoped he would), and improve our pass rush, McKenzie could serve as the answer to the weakest link on the Saints’ entire team: a safety with genuine deep cover skills. It worked for Ronnie Lott; it’s worked for a lot of older cornerbacks.

rotoword.com:
ProFootballTalk cites a Keith Brooking radio interview on 680 The Fan in Atlanta that claims DeAngelo Hall tried to provoke a fight with a Falcon at halftime of last week’s game in Oakland.
Brooking said that Hall was waiting in the tunnel to pick a fight, at which point the Falcon linebacker considered himself lucky to be removed “from all that mess.” That “mess” would be Hall and his poisonous attitude, which apparently has a long way to go. There’s been no indication that the incident led directly or even indirectly to Hall’s Oakland release, but it’s not like the Redskins can claim they didn’t know what they were getting themselves into upon signing Hall.

HALL PASS: Although the Saints were mentioned as possible suitors for cornerback DeAngelo Hall in various reports this week after he was released by the Oakland Raiders, it doesn’t appear as though they showed any real interest before he signed with the Washington Redskins on Friday.

Do the Saints need Leigh Torrance?????
rotoworld.com:
Redskins waived CB Leigh Torrence.
Torrence loses his roster spot to DeAngelo Hall, who was officially signed Saturday. It’s a pretty surprising cut since Torrence had impressed most observers with his play this year and was ahead of some disappointing Washington draft picks.
