New Uniforms

a friend sent me a link this summer but I cant retrieve it. It was an article and pics of the Saints 09 jersey changes, apparently the front office didn't beat a deadline for 08 season. Pics were keeping with Saints Black/Gold team colors of course, One home uni was all white (75 season), another Black top/gold pants, all black, wh top/black or gold pants, but the noticable change was the number font, same as Baltimore Ravens, also a alternative helmet Black w/gold Fleur-de-Lis, the 69 pre-season helmet (that I have mini version of). Anybody heard about this? Peace and Who-Dat....

Good God

I hope you’re joking. The black pajama uniforms are bad enough without stealing the Ravens’ numerals.

Three years of deteriorating results is enough. Replace Gary Gibbs!

Oh my God no

This is my wife’s favorite NFL subject. She HATES the Broncos’ uniforms. When the Cardinals debuted their all red look, she said they reminded her of old time long underwear and she wondered if they had a button flap in the seat.

White pants are a bad idea. You can see their jock straps.

I hope Rita shows some taste and intervenes.

I also hope it’s just a rumor started by this guy:

Once again, stujo beats me by seconds

I think that SaintsReport page is probably the origin of this. Though actually, I also like his uniform designs.

Not sure

Don’t see actual pics of unis, only a poll and responses, but print looks familiar, was a non-saints site when i first saw them, if its Raven numeral font then its the same info, but a rumor only?

Photos

The photos are missing from the SaintsReport thread, but if you do a Google image search you can at least see the thumbnails. They’re not big enough to see all the details, but it’s at least obvious that they’re not using those obscene Baltimore numerals.

And actually, the all-whites look slick.

Three years of deteriorating results is enough. Replace Gary Gibbs!

Thanx

You are a mountain of saints information, but i know i saw Raven font, may i’ll run down the original article…yes all white IS Slick …thanx again Who-Dat

I like

the idea of all white @ home ,not every game though, it was 1st yr in Dome ,75 season? Also not crazy about Raven font, saints doing well not to look like Ravens,Broncos, even Chargers by keeping the old classic numeral font.

all white = Marty Schottenheimer

He did it at Cleveland AND at Kansas City. And maybe San Diego, not sure.

I think a uniform change would be great!

I’ve been thinking about this a lot the past few days for the psychological benefits it may present. I was actually about to put up a fanpost suggesting it. Some of you may be in love with the same basic uniform they’ve used for the past 40 years and I have no problem with them myself. But, I think when a player suits up in a team uniform, he also mentally suits up with the history of that team. Let’s face it, the Saints don’t have a great or inspiring history when compared to teams like the Cowboys and Steelers. I just think about the teams that couldn’t reach a championship until they gave their players a fresh start in different uniforms. For example:

1. The Patriots—shortly after a uniform change they won consecutive Super Bowls.
2. The Broncos—same as above
3. The Buccaneers—they had the most ugly uniforms imaginable and changed to something much better; a few years later they won a Super Bowl.

I’m not stupid enough to believe this would be all it would take for our Saints. They still need improvement at coaching and personnel. We have a team now that is pretty close and a different look for our guys may just work wonders to let them forget they’re playing for a team that’s never even made it to a Super Bowl. I think a fresh start of some sort would be great. I’m not calling for a huge makeover, but just something noticeably different than the same basic uniform of the past 40 years.

Go Saints!!!!

Correction

Concerning the teams I listed to support my argument, I should have said “couldn’t win a championship.” I know the Patriots and Broncos before their uniform change “reached” the championship game only to lose each time.

Go Saints!!!!

all true and this is the argument I use on my wife when Denver is on TV ("They won a Superbowl with those new uniforms!"); never works

I’m OK with it as long as the Saints don’t change the helmet. The helmet logo is perfect. And I want some throwback jersey game days. I like those.

Fleur-de-Lis

Didn’t see a logo change,Fleur-de-Lis is here to stay, but my wife had a interesting statement, she’s into the whole Feng-Shui thing, she says the reason they can’t win it all is that the Fleur-de-Lis is a point(y) object and it should be inside a circle or something to soften the energy,I told her good luck w/that, could we try anything….Happy Holidays

by metryman on Dec 20, 2008 3:27 PM CST up reply actions

Um...

…let me try to say this as diplomatically as possible, so you don’t track me down and punch me in the nose for insulting your wite. The Saints don’t want to soften their energy. If anything, we need more pointy things. Let’s plaster the safeties with fleurs-de-lys…maybe it will turn them into Bob Sanders and Ed Reed.

Not the face! Not the face!

Roger that

we need some head hunters back there

by metryman on Dec 28, 2008 5:35 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah, but have you seen the original helmets? That is one ugly fleur de lis. Too big. I think they got it right with the current one.

by stujo4 on Dec 20, 2008 5:39 PM CST up reply actions

Let's poll the audience

Maybe metryman or Saintsational can create a “Uniform Change” poll for this fanpost. I’d be interested to see the result. When I’ve suggested this to other Saints fans in the past, I’ve received very mixed opinions.

Go Saints!!!!

Noted

Yep, they all had one thing in common, Giants ,sort of , they went back to old school 60’s grey pants and won it all, also kind of a uni-change…

I can live with anything, EXCEPT

if they go with those candy-assed swooshes on their pants instead of honest stripes. The Vikings and the Falcons have the most effeminate uniforms imaginable—I hope. Because I hope to God the Saints’ front office doesn’t imagine something worse.

that's what annoys my wife the most

The way the Broncos’ jersey has the stripe on the side that continues down the side of the pants. She thinks it’s a cheap, obvious styling stunt and it irks her to no end.

I always liked the lightning bolts on the sides of the Chargers’ pants.

by stujo4 on Dec 19, 2008 8:58 AM CST up reply actions

Actually

I like that stripe. It gives continuity to the pants and the jersey when they’re different base colors. But I think the Patriots’ uniforms do a better job of it.

All-white is where it's at

I made these a couple years ago, and so far I’m pretty sure I’m still the only person on earth who likes them. Feel free to register your disgust. :)

(Obviously the font is the “Solemnity” close-enough version with the horribly wrong T.)

by Grandmaster Wang on Dec 19, 2008 9:02 AM CST reply actions

I like it

It kind of reminds me of the Chargers new uniform, though. I wouldn’t mind seeing an additional color added or traded out. A Mardi Gras purple or something might be nice if it didn’t clash with the black and gold. What do I know? I’m not a decorator or skilled in that stuff anyway. How about instead of black jerseys, they go back to a light gold jersey of some sort? Yeah, that probably would suck.

Go Saints!!!!

like but...

It looks collage to me, not NFL.

wait a minute, that's a white helmet

We can’t have a white helmet. Then it really does look like a college team. As bad as Texas. Sorry, SaintBevo. Hook ’em!
