and the part about the NFL champ game in 1958. My wife and I just watched ESPN’s 2-hour documentary “The Greatest Game Ever Played” (it first aired right after the Heisman presentation a few weeks ago), and it was most enjoyable. They put current Giants and Colts players with players, fans and journalists who were part of that game 50 years ago, and showed them the footage they compiled of the game. Their commentary and recollections gave me a much better understanding about that game. And the segment in the documentary about the halftime show was priceless – there was footage of these cheerleaders dressed up in reindeer antlers and red noses prancing around, but it was very different from the sexed-up gyrations enjoyed by horndog fans today – Ha!
Also recommended viewing: HBO’s “Breaking the Huddle: The Integration of College Football” This one-hour doc highlights the true heroes and the story of how college football and college campuses in the south became racially integrated. And let me just warn you, some of the footage of white folks, screaming hate-filled and terrible epithets at people they don’t even know is chilling to think of it going on just 40 something years ago…
