New Orleans Saints sign defensive end Rob Ninkovich and safety Terrence Holt
The Saints signed defensive end Rob Ninkovich and safety Terrence Holt to fill the roster spots that were vacated by the suspensions of Deuce McAllister and Will Smith.
Ninkovich, 24, began his career with the Saints as a fifth-round draft pick out of Purdue in 2006, but he only appeared in three games before he suffered a season-ending injury, tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.

Ninkovich was good
He was an overachiever, high-motor kind of guy. I had high hopes for him. If his knee is fully healed, he may stick.

whoa whoa whoa what's with all the hyperbole today???
He ain’t no Bobby McCray. Guy didn’t keep the Saints’ attention for long and couldn’t make the Dolphins’ squad. I’m willing to give him a chance, but don’t get your hopes up.
Ninkovich tore it up in Miami’s preseason finale, but it wasn’t enough for them to keep him over Quentin Moses.
Ninkovich, a former Purdue Boilermaker, lost out to Quentin Moses for a spot on the club in training camp. “Nink” can play inside and outside linebacker.
“Nink” has some pass rush ability. He’ll be New Orleans’ fourth end.
What’s that?.. uh…PLAYoffs? Don’t talk about…Playoffs? You kiddin’ me? Playoffs? I just hope we can win a GAME.

"Control yourself, you'll spurt!"
I never said he was Bobby McCray, just that I liked the guy. I thought he played well as a backup for the Saints before his injury. At this point, other people’s rejected backups are all that is likely to be available; and Ninkovich was pretty good for an on-the-bubble guy.
Besides…he’s a Purdue guy. Black and gold in his blood.

there you go again
M-E, you somehow know my Lito Sheppard buttons.
Right after my brother says “….but they’re a DOME team…” he always says “I like that Drew Brees, though. Purdue.”
NOW I’m steamed again.

Who knows now...
but back when we drafted him he looked really promising. then he got hurt and disappeared. At this point, could he be any more of a non-factor than Will Smith?

SWEET!
Ninkovich was decorating a Christmas tree when he got called by the Saints. And I think Pakulak was delivering furniture in his friend’s business when he was snagged by the Saints a few weeks ago.
It feels like the strike year of 1987 all over again when we had all those replacement players and Tony Elliott (as the only Saint regular player who crossed the picket line) on the squad for 3 games!
And truthfully, if these guys can play, I don’t care what they were doing in their previous jobs…
Saints officials have cited Grant's and Smith's number of quarterback hurries as evidence of their quietly productive play...Technically, Smith "hurried" Jeff Garcia on his 39-yard touchdown pass to Antonio Bryant on Sunday.
