Saints Select WR Adrian Arrington in 7th Round

Adrian Arrington (Rivals.com)

Following a trade with the Green Bay Packers, the Saints acquired a seventh round pick at the 237 overall spot and chose Michigan Wide Receiver Adrian Arrington. Check out his scouting report at NFL Draft Countdown.

Has good size and great hands. Plays tough and isn't afraid to go over the middle. He has the potential to get much better. Doesn't have much experience and has character issues, including suspensions and arrests.

  • The next Colston.
  • We should have addressed another position.

special?

if he pans out, he can have an enjoyable season playing special teams.  If not, who cares!  Wait... we have no idea what the saints had to give up to get him?  Hopefully it was no more than a value meal at BK, but definitely not the large size cause this pick wasn't worth that!

an enjoyable read on our last draft pick

The Detroit Free Press got ahold of the police report that caused a million internet rumors about a possible Adrian Arrington suspension to bloom over the course of last week, and while the domestic violence aspect of the report seems overblown...

He refused and they started arguing. Once the car was parked behind her apartment, Arrington left the car and they started yelling. Then he walked to her side of the car, banged on the window and she opened the door. That led to a fight over the keys. According to the report, Arrington grabbed the keys, Hupe locked the door, Arrington unlocked the door and then pulled her out of the car by her wrists before he drove away in the vehicle. Hupe called 911 after that, reaching the Ypsilanti police.

...there is the whole matter of Arrington, 20, being drunk and then getting in a car and going somewhere. That should warrant a suspension of some sort. Why not against Iowa, the only team left on Michigan's schedule that could plausibly beat Michigan before Football Armageddon versus Ohio State? Well, Carr says that he was unaware of the drinking:

"I was first informed that there was an issue mid-week" last week involving Arrington, Michigan coach Lloyd Carr said Monday through athletic department spokesman Bruce Madej. "This is a new issue and if he was drinking, I have to find that out and it is a team issue. And we handle team issues internally."

Standard football cynicism parameters apply, but it doesn't seem like Lloyd's style to let this go until Michigan is into the soft portion of its schedule.

Running steps for playing time

Two months after suspending star wide receiver Adrian Arrington indefinitely for unspecified reasons, Coach Carr has allowed Arrington to rejoin the team for summer conditioning. Arrington is apparently earning his spot back through the fulfillment of several conditions outlined by Carr, which include running the steps at Michigan Stadium for an hour starting at 6 am each day for 60 consecutive days. Though Carr hasn’t guaranteed that Arrington would be back in the fall, he mentioned that Arrington "wants very much to be a part of this team, so he’s done the things that I’ve asked him to do. He’s working out. He’s in our summer conditioning program. We’re all hoping he’s going to be here (this fall), but it’s really up to him. We’ll see what develops."
