5 Questions For Minicamp

Times-Pic writer David Gladow just released this article. Here are his five burning questions:

1.) Did that major first-round investment at defensive tackle pay off?

2.) Who's going to suit up at defensive end?

3.) Can someone emerge at defensive back? Please?

4.) What's going to happen at running back?

5.) Can the team erase the bad karma of a disappointing 2007 flop?

1. Too early to say for sure, but all indications so far seem to scream, “YES!.” I really like big Sed and he seems to bring not only great physical play but a great, hard-working mindset to his game. I can’t wait until the preseason action gets here!

2. They’ll get Will Smith’s contract worked out and Charles Grant will be back. It doesn’t seem like Charles is facing any serious trouble so far from that Georgia incident, even though some witnesses are now saying that he fired the gun. I find that very hard to believe. I’m anxious to see how Bobby McCray will contribute as well.

3. Call me an eternal optimist, but I think Payton and Gibbs have very much improved the cornerback situation this offseason. Much like with Reggie, I’m also hoping that Jason David will work extra hard this offseason, come out with a chip on his shoulder, and aim to prove his critics wrong. If not, Usama Young should be better in his second year and the addition of Gay should help shore things up. I’m hearing that McKenzie’s knee rehab is coming along smoothly, so maybe he’ll be suited up for the opener against the Bucs.

4. Deuce ain’t done yet! Look for no. 26 to pile-drive through many a D-line this year. Reggie will be better and Pierre will make a name for himself. If the injury bug doesn’t bite this position, I think we’ll have one of the better RB corps this year.

5. HELL YES! All the pieces are in place for a serious championship run. I can’t explain it, but I feel a helluva lot better going into this season than I did at this time last year.

Go Saints!!!!
