Shockeyrific! |
Alright guys, this is it. The final game of the pre-season. The next time we do this...it's for real. So soak it up while you gain, because next weeks game against the Bucs is for keeps. This game ought to be interesting. Some of our starters won't be playing, but some of them, like Deuce and Shockey, may see some extensive time. I don't know about you, but I am scared and nervous all in one.
After the jump I have hooked you up with some audio from WWL's Sports Talk. That should make up for my lack of a game preview.
See you tomorrow with my recap.
Talking with Miami Dolphin play-by-play guy, Jimmy Cefalo.

Ha ha, hendersen!
He’s going to be on the street in 2 years.
McCray just got a stop on Brown…because Brown stepped on him?! Hilarious. Only the Dolphins could manage something so dumb.
AND a missed field goal. Amazing!
Brunell
Scares me every time he drops back.
And the announcer says the obvious: Henderson lets the ball hit his body every time.
Deuce looks better, except that it’s against Miami… I guess we’ll take it.
Deuce
Losing his helmet, running for first downs…the guy is great! I hope he can pull it together in a week.
Young...
is playing! I thought he was still injured, something about his foot?
Ha, somehow BigSed knocked the ball away! And holy crap, Deuce actually looks pretty good! Why am I the only person posting?
It's Thursday Night
They might think the game is another night.

He better be
I don’t see how anyone could pick Stone Hands Henderson over Mr. Velcro Moore.

Hello All!
Yeah, Henderson has to go. Deuce looks pretty good tonight. I wish he could have picked up that TD.
Go Saints!!!!

It’s some site where some guy is able to upload live the Saints television broadcast from the NO TV network. Here’s a link:

Jason David...
…with the tackle and the crowd actually booed him. Damn! I can’t help but feel for that guy.
Go Saints!!!!

Nevertheless, I hope they let him go.

MISTAKES...
It will mean a lot to me to see Payton admit his mistake of getting JD to the Saints. Hey, the guy seemed like a great idea at the time. He just sucks. Got to move on now that we know he can’t do shit.
i just got home
deuce looking good? thats awesome! sounds like henderson is getting cut before he even gets off the field…ok. how about shockey???
No Shockey tonight
He didn’t play.
Go Saints!!!!

oh no!!!
whats the matter??? game time decision i guess cause he was ready last week but payton decided last minute not to play him. i kept hearing it was all about him and deuce tonight.
poor palko, he isnt getting much help out there
I think Payton may be holding Shockey back this week in order to give the Buc’s a harder time with their game planning next weekend. I didn’t hear of any injury problems with Shockey, so I think he’s OK to go if Payton wanted to use him.
Go Saints!!!!

Jason David...
with the strip. He may just keep a spot on the team with a good special teams showing tonight. I hope not, but it is possible.
Go Saints!!!!

Mehlhaf
I’ve been hoping he could win the job, but his kickoffs too frequently only go to around the 10 yard line. I’m officially jumping on the ’Keep Gramatica" bandwagon. At least Martin is consistent. Mehlhaff needs more time to develop.
Go Saints!!!!

With the way Palko is playing...
I’m not very optimistic that the Saints will put any more points on the board tonight.
Go Saints!!!!

Good for him!
Maybe he’ll get some of his confidence back now.
Go Saints!!!!

I know it's wrong...
but does anyone else get kind of annoyed when Jason David does something good now? I want him to be cut so badly! A few good plays in one game doesn’t erase the shitstorm of suck that he’s exhibited thus far! Now I’m afraid Payton is going to seriously consider keeping him..
Sometimes the sun shines on a dog's a**
Look at the competition he was against.

Yeah, you make a good point.
Just because he’s looked good at times tonight against their 3rd stringers doesn’t mean he’s gotten over the hump of his poor play of late. With the $ they have invested in him so far, I believe they were planning on keeping him anyway, just further down the depth chart. Correct me if I’m wrong, but if they cut him they still have to pay him. Am I right about that?
Go Saints!!!!

nfl
they dont have to pay out the whole contract. i forget, maybe they go into arbitration as to how much they have to pay. but there is a salary cap hit
i love glenn, butt
david is hungry and more willing to play special teams. plus hes younger and faster
Thank God it's the 4th quarter
This game is boring and ugly. The sad thing is that most of the players we’re seeing now will be out of work in a few days. Well, maybe that’s a good thing. I’m hoping Palko is one of the cuts. Coach Payton would be wise to face the music and bring in another project quarterback.
Go Saints!!!!

O-line
Maybe I shouldn’t condemn Palko too much. The 3rd string O-line certainly aren’t helping him out. My grandmother could get a QB sack against this line.
Go Saints!!!!

Palko
He could play another year on the practice squad. They could cut him and no team would pick him up so they could just throw him back on the practice squad. Payton knows QBs.
by Steve the fan on Aug 28, 2008 9:19 PM CDT up reply actions
Yeah, Payton know QBs, but Palko has been here for 3 years now and he actually looks worse to me than he did last year. You’re right though, they’ll probably just put him back on the practice squad.
Go Saints!!!!

cut palko
i’m all about cutting palko loose. He is so bad that Aaron Brooks would be a better backup than him. Yes, that bad.
Palko
Why does he hold the ball out like that when he runs?
by Steve the fan on Aug 28, 2008 9:38 PM CDT up reply actions
he looks
worse and worse. Somebody said he’s regressing… I wouldn’t even waste a practice squad spot with him because he’ll never become a starter. Making him a football player in the NFL is akin to making jamaica a world superpower. It ain’t happening.
jason craft
gotta keep this guy. perfect role player. he is always in the right spot about could help young and porter a lot.
I'm glad this one is over
Well, at least 4 out of my 6 pregame predictions (guesses) panned out. I still wish Deuce could have punched one of those runs in for the TD. I look forward to reading about the roster cuts over the next couple of days.
I hope Gustav keeps drifting west and fizzles out somewhere before making landfall. This is reminding me too much of 2005. It’s not just my fears of permanently losing the Saints to a different city but also my concern for the well-being and livelihood of all Gulf Coast residents. I’m 1000 miles away from there and out of danger, so I’m hoping everyone in the NoLa area has a trouble-free week ahead.
Go Saints!!!!
