Bill Johnson's Defensive Lines

To get to know our new defensive line coach a little better, I put together all of the most relevant stats I could find pertaining to Bill Johnson's defensive lines in his 8 NFL seasons. The first is a chart of sack totals and sack yards lost for each season. Then it's a year by year breakdown of his teams run defense rankings and sack percentage. High rankings are desirable. The most recent years also have a defensive play direction breakdown.

I hope this guy is part of the answer

He’s had some good years and some bad, but for the most part he seems to know his trade. I just hope he can develop Big Sed into the monster we all want him to be and also get way more production from our highly paid DE’s.

Go Saints!!!!

Mmmhh...

…not as impressive as I thought.

With the exception of 2004, the more sacks his D-Line got the worst he did in ranking for avg yds/game and avg run per play. The Saints had one good thing going on defense this year and that was stuffing star runners (Peterson, Porter, Tomlinson, etc.) That even got us 17th place ,our best NFL stat score on that side of the ball!

I just hope PayLoo aren’t bringing him in so he can turn Smith and Grant into sacks machines and neglect the run because of it. Colapsing the pocket and taking a second away from the opposing QB will be fine thank you.

FILE - In this Sept. 4, 2009 file photo, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Shaun Hill aims a pass downfield against the San Diego Chargers during the first quarter of an NFL preseason football game in San Diego. Hill earned the starting job for the 2009 season by beating out Alex Smith, who missed last season after re-injuring his surgically repaired throwing shoulder. Head coach Mike Singletary largely chose Hill based on his play down the stretch last year: he went 5-3 over the final eight games and he also owns a 5-0 record at home in Candlestick Park.
