Not good at all...Mays is staying at USC

Found this on ESPN.com

This really sucks, because now the defacto-best saftery will be Mizzou's Moore, which means he will be off the board when we pick, drastically thinning out the elite talent pool at safety.  Now I'd like to see us move down and get some extra picks.   Maybe Vonte Davis at cornerback?  CRAP!!!!

Of course all of this speculation is pointless prior to Free Agency.

But like Saintssational said, I'm bored.  Thoughts???

Thought:

We get a safety, like Asomugha, in free agency; then we draft Davis or Jenkins.

OR

We pick up a good cornerback in FA as well, and draft a linebacker. Maybe Brian Cushing, or Gerald McRath to push Shanle.

We DO NOT draft a running back.

Really, not even in the later rounds?

I can’t help but think we need another RB, preferably a bigger, more physical back to compliment PT and Reggie. I don’t expect Deuce to be here at all next season. You know Payton will use at least one maybe two picks on an offensive player because he simply can’t help himself. I agree defense is definitely the mucho supremo priority in the draft, but I don’t yet feel comfortable with the current RB situation.

Go Saints!!!!

here you go

rotoworld.com:

LeSean “Shady” McCoy confirmed Wednesday that he will leave the University of Pittsburgh and enter the 2009 NFL Draft.
The third-year sophomore wanted to stay one more year, but felt pressure from his family. Ultimately, it’s probably the best choice. Along with Beanie Wells and Knowshon Moreno, McCoy projects to be one of the top three backs chosen. A shifty runner with rare change-of-direction skills, McCoy will probably run a sub-4.4 at the Combine and be a late first-rounder in April.

or maybe you prefer Beanie

Rotoworld.com:

Ohio State RB Chris “Beanie” Wells will forgo his senior season and enter the 2009 NFL Draft.
Wells finished 2008 with 1,197 yards on 207 carries (5.8 YPC), eight TDs, and eight grabs. In a weak RB class, he is battling Knowshon Moreno to be the first taken. At 6’1/237 Wells is built like a poor man’s Brandon Jacobs, but his style is more shifty and he isn’t nearly as powerful. Wells is like Jacobs in that he is very fast for his size, but runs upright and is often banged up.

here's the ticket

rotoworld.com:

Georgia RB Knowshon Moreno confirmed Wednesday that he will forgo his final two seasons a the school and enter the 2009 NFL Draft.
A 5’11/208-pound grinder whose style is similar to that of Thomas Jones, Moreno is leaving the ’Dogs after his redshirt sophomore year. He ran for 1,400 yards in 2008, averaging 5.6 YPC with 18 all-purpose TDs. Moreno is a skilled pass catcher out of the backfield, offers fresh legs after only 498 carries in two seasons, and could be the top tailback off the board in 2009.

There are more good players still coming out, too soon to tell where we stand

Although we’ll probably get this guy:
Rotoworld.com:

Georgia CB Asher Allen will forgo his junior season with the Dogs and enter the 2009 draft.
A two-year starter, Allen finished 2008 without a pick. He did lead UG with seven breakups and offers adequate size for a corner at 5’10/198. Allen admits he would’ve stayed in school had his family not needed the money.

RB is totally unnecessary. CB, S, LB takes precedence. RB is a 7th round or UDFA need.

by SaintsDynasty on Jan 14, 2009 10:45 PM CST reply actions

Disagree

RB is absolutely necessary, though not as pressing as CB and S. Bush is NOT an everydown back, I wish he was but that’s just not the case, He is good at what he does, but he can’t grind it out and take the abuse. I like Pierre but I don’t believe he’s an upper tier back either. I think a quality “bruiser” can be gotten in a later round allowing for the defensive needs to be met first.

Here's another for your consideration

rotoworld.com:

Ohio State CB Donald Washington will forgo his senior season to enter the 2009 NFL Draft.
Playing with heralded senior Malcolm Jenkins, Washington posted only one pick and 22 tackles as a junior sub-package CB. At 6’1/188, Washington may be viewed as a safety at the next level. He doesn’t project to be a first-day pick.

Not a headliner

but I like Sean Smith (Safelty) from Utah…. has size and speed- projected to go in second round.

by Barrylsu5 on Jan 15, 2009 3:28 PM CST reply actions

correction

Smith is actually a CB but there is some discussion regarding a position change to Safety…. (he is fast enough to play corner).

by Barrylsu5 on Jan 15, 2009 3:37 PM CST reply actions

Maybe

with Mays staying put, convert McKenzie to Safety, draft the Utah guy (S.Smith) or CB of equal value. McKenzie has had 2 yrs worth of knee surgeries, but he’s still a hard hitter and good v.s. run, if gets his knee right, I think he would be a good center fielder back there….

by metryman on Jan 15, 2009 4:36 PM CST reply actions

Sounds good there

Use McKenzie at free safety for a year and then we can draft Myron Rolle. or maybe if that #14 guy from Tennessee goes out next year…Eric Berry.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lM4T1CSHDZI&feature=related.

Draft a corner this year and wait for one of those beasts. Mays will be there too.

eric berry

is an absolute beast. he put a hit on knowshon moreno that caused moreno to lose control of his, ahem, bodily functions.

beast but...

Back when I was in college I hit a guy so hard he also lost control of his bladder, and I was never going to make the pros.

Course I cracked 2 ribs of another guy too, but he thanked me. We had a nursing residence that watched us play. He was set for months :/
