Lets pick up LT if SD dont want him :)
If the Chargers dont want LT anymore and let him go, he should come here. Drew and him are best buds and they could get Bush in exchange if needed. Drew and LT would prob. put the offense over the top. LT should be OK by next season, runs N-S not E-W and still has a few years left. Some might think I´m crazy, but I mean think about it. .....but then again maybe I´m just trippin´. :-)

If we're going to give up Reggie Bush
and get something for him, I’d rather it be draft choices, instead of one of Brees’ buds who is on the downslope of his career. And if we have to draft offense, Rashad Jennings and Mike Thomas would put us over the top, too. Let’s go for youth.
But that’s a pipe dream, anyway, because we’re not going to part with Reggie Bush, and if we did we would not get significant return for him.

holy crap
one of Brees’ buds who is on the downslope of his career.
I’m shocked. Shocked, I tell you.
LaDainian Tomlinson is a first round NFL hall of fame candidate, 8 years into his pro career in which he has missed 1 game. He’s 29 years old and he’s been rode hard and put up wet. But he is still near the TOP of the downslope of his career which makes him STILL a top 10 running back in the NFL. Let’s show the man some respect, please………..

All right. Now…. Bush for LT? Even the Chargers aren’t that dumb. And let me be the first to squawk “What about PT?” So, not a good fit. Maybe if LT2 was 2 years farther along in his career. Somebody like Derrick Ward might be a better choice. (Now let’s hear it from the PT defenders who think he is a feature back. Which is so 2004.)
rotoworld.com:
Impending free agent Derrick Ward said Tuesday that he’s had no contact with the Giants about a potential contract extension.
“There are a few teams that could use a featured back. It would be nice to be a part of something I could feel comfortable with and a team could feel comfortable with,” he said, implying he isn’t comfortable backing up Brandon Jacobs. Ward probably won’t surface as a feature back, but could find work as the lead back in a committee. Arizona and Denver are possibilities.

You misunderstand
This is no dis on Tomlinson. He’s a great back, and figures to be a great back for a few more years. But he’s 29. And he’s not the only running back in America who can be effective in Payton’s offense. Instead of rushing out and snatching up an expensive used player who is at least halfway through his career, why not spend fewer of our dwindling resources on someone much younger but still promising?

No No I dont misunderstand
I agree that if we get a new RB it would be sensible to get a young one with long range potential. Nonetheless, thats what we thought we would get with Bush though aswell. I am still not convinced that he will ever be that, although Peyton seems to believe so. My comment was not quite that serious either. If I think about it though, if he were to get the boot (which latest reports he denies) he would definetly not command a heavy price- precisely for the reasons that you stated against him. Taking this in mind and the fact that I doubt that we will get an immediate and/or extreme improvement in what we already have at RB; I believe that with a reasonable price (as an experienced RB with at least 1-2 or 2-3 yrs. left) that idea is not all that asinine as you seem to believe (at least for a few yrs).

Corey Dillon got worn down at Cincy, then went to the Pats and won a superbowl, for example.

Resonable price is the kicker here.
I think he has enough left in the tank to not fall down to a reasonable enough price for us to take him.

Asinine
Your word, not mine. No offense was meant; I try to be more polite and circumspect in my old age.
I think, though, that you’re assuming a high possibility of a “reasonable” price—something that I think is flat-out impossible. Tomlinson is a superstar, and he’s going to command superstar money. But, he’s also stated he has no intention of leaving San Diego…so if he’s inclined to become a bargain, he’ll be a bargain for the Chargers.

Sorry if the word "asinine" came over too harsh
wasn´t meant the way it came over. Havent lived in the US in a while and I get the feeling ya´ll folks have gotten a bit sensitive since I last lived there (pre- political correctness). I´ll try to watch what i say the next time, and “asinine” was not meant as a personal dig upon your person. Just felt that most of ya´ll felt the idea was exactly that. Still cool to see that I can rowl up such a discussion. grin Peace

I'm not sensitive
I was afraid you were. You seemed to think I believed your post was asinine, which wasn’t the case.
Where are you from?

No....I felt some folks here thought the idea w/LT was asinine
I´m an army brat that grew up in LA, went to LSU (amoung others), worked in NO for a few yrs and am living in Germany since ´90 (last 10 yrs in Berlin). Saints fan since ´77.

*lol* nice pic of Heidelberg
you speak german? So you were here for the first time in ´07….and since?
by shecky on Jan 22, 2009 6:19 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I speak German
about as well as a cat drives. I had two semesters in college, and thought I might get by. No such luck; what I said more than anything else was “Sprechen Sie englisch?”
Funny thing, though: we got lost in Heidelberg on a rainy night and couldn’t find the hotel; went around in circles for a couple hours; tried from every angle, even driving south on the autobahn and coming back in from that direction. No go. Finally, we stopped and asked a taxi driver who spoke no English—and I understood every word he said. The hotel was about four blocks away.
Haven’t been out of the country since, but my wife and I now talk all the time about retiring to Europe.

Figured I´d get a similar response
I was just reading about how SD might dump LT and thought I´d drop that idea here and see what ya´ll would say. Although the idea of picking LT up and then beating them in the SB with Brees and LT was sort of an amusing thought. Albeit not very realistic.

keep an eye on the clock, time passes quickly
rotoworld.com:
Top 50 Keepers
2009=27. LaDainian Tomlinson, Chargers (rank 2007=1, 2008=1): This is what I wrote about Shaun Alexander two years ago when I ranked him twentieth: “Not many runners who reach (age) 30 have bounce back seasons. This is probably too high.”
I should have trusted my instincts then. Tomlinson has a better skill set to extend his career, but my instincts now say that I want no part of LT2 next season. He’s breaking down and is ordinary when he plays. The longer I’ve worked on this column, the further LT2 has dropped. If I kept him, I’d trade him. A timeshare is a growing possibility.
“Timeshare” meaning running back by committee, presumably. No scoffing that this is fantasy football and doesn’t mean anything. It’s simply an indicator of LT2’s perceived value to an offense. Yards and touchdowns. And he is in serious decline, more than I wanted to admit. We should all listen more to old men like M-E.

Impressive to get lost in Heidelberg :-)
Well if I consider that “Toonses the Driving Cat” can drive; then your german must be awsome! I can understand getting lost for a short while in Heidelberg but that bad is truly impressive considering its size. Retiring to Europe is to be recommended IMHO – depending on which country you decide to settle down in.

If I had the funds
and no responsibilities to my family here I would buy a restaurant and a sailboat and move to Cassis. Great place: beautiful, great food, topless models on the beach. Spent a summer in Paris and this was the most memerable part for sure.

went to paris last may...
didn’t experience any stuck up Parisians, they treated me like a star, kept getting asked if I was a basketball player or an actor. I don’t speak any french, my wife a little. But then again for a couple days we had one of our friends from the states, who moved to Turkey, show us around, her family is from Camarillo so she speaks fluent french.
Don't worry I got your back cuz...

well having a french speaker helps alot
and as you said your wife speaks a little….like I said…if you at least try to speak the language and not expect everyone to speak english then they are usualloy cool….and having a translator with you is an added plus.
