Mocking the Draft's Saints Team Profile
We're still a long way from the draft but for many NFL fans, Chronic readers included, it's the only thing to look forward to. Personally, I have been deliberately holding off on the draft talk because we have plenty of time to get into it and things change so often from now until then. But with SB Nation's own Mocking the Draftalready gearing up and devoting some time to our beloved Saints, I have no choice but to at least mention it. By the way, I know a lot of you have already been regularly checking out mock draft websites and I highly encourage that, particularly when you share what you have found right here on CSC, but you should definitely add Mocking the Draft to your list. So when they post stories pertintent to the Saints like this Vontae Davis scouting report, you won't miss it.
Anyway, the guys at MTD just posted their team profile for the Saints. This is just a basic run down of the Saints status up to this point. This will act as a basic starting point for their later in-depth discussion about the Saints' draft needs. Even though I disagreed with MTD's first mock draft and their analysis of Tracy Porter as a disappointment, I think they got this one right. I mean, they quoted me so...it's gotta be good.
I will be keeping you guys updated when Mocking The Draft covers the Saints but for those draft freaks who just can't get enough draft coverage, start familiarizing yourselves. Check in on MTD regularly, sign up over there and post comments. It's going to be a long season so you might as well get comfortable.
On an unrelated note, we will be having a Super Bowl Super Open Thread tomorrow evening for the game. I know a lot of people will be doing something special for "the holiday" but for those of you who will be near a computer, I invite you all to come meet and talk about the game right here. The more the merrier and I think it would be very cool to have a lot of us all here together for the big game.

The profile is mostly right...
but I do take exception to one thing. People continue to cite the fact that Gregg Williams was passed over for the head coaching job in Washington as some kind of indication that he isn’t the best choice for DC. I’m not sure what the 2 have to do with each other. Some people are cut out to be HCs, some are not, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t/can’t be good coordinators. The league is full (well, maybe not full, but you get the idea) of guys who have been repeatedly successful as coordinators, but not as HCs.
I pledge to counter M-E's Steeler propaganda with Cardinal facts at a rate of 2 to 1
Go Cards!
Not total losers, the Cardinals have a rich history:
Wichita Eagle:
Air Coryell, the nickname for Coach Don Coryell’s high flying offensive system, got its start in St Louis in 1973. Under Coryell, the Cardinals had a 31-11 run from ’73 to ’75.
Change is GOOD.
And won scads of playoff games
in their dreams.
Why all this Cardinal love? You should be a Chiefs fan.
Oh when the Saints...Start kicking ass...You don't want to be in that number...
Sir, I caution you to watch your tongue
Chiefs fans are insufferable. Much like Yankees fans except without the success.
I hate the Steelers. Boom. That’s it. They win too much. I wipe my ass with the Terrible Towel.
Change is GOOD.
Re: the Vontae Davis profile
This stands out: Played in a cover-2 scheme… That, along with his supposed attitude problems, should send us looking elsewhere. We need corners skilled in man coverage and dedicated to doing their jobs.

re: your comment on VD - but if you read the whole thing....
it says that he
Played in a cover-2 scheme that doesn’t fit his strengths.
Maybe that means he’d be a good match for GW’s scheme(s).

not sure what to think about his "attitude" problems and work ethic
I think I remember reading some things about Colston that made his coaches question his mindset, and therefore they gave him less than ringing endorsements that led to him being available for us in the last round.

True
But Colston was an offensive player. Maybe Payton was up to the challenge. I don’t know what Williams is thinking, or what his practice in evaluating a player’s attitude is, but I thought I’d bring it up.

yeah, I agree. We don't want to waste that pick on another Adam Jones (or even just an underperforming Alex Molden/Je'Rod Cherry/Rob Kelly)

I know - those wasted draft pick years of the 90's are stomach churning
and I didn’t even type Vaughn (urp) Dunbar yet. OOPS.

No, I read that
I don’t know what they mean by “his strengths.” His experience, though, is playing zone in a cover 2.

Forget it
No way should we be going for a rookie corner with attitude problems. No way at all. Go somewhere else, let someone else pay the penalty for optimism.
