A Few Words About Bob Hayes

Yeah, I'm old enough to remember Bob Hayes.  I vividly remember my older brother looking at me when the Cowboys were on TV and saying "fastest man alive".  Which is pretty damned fast.  He ran a 5.28  60 on a cinder track (no official 40 yard timing for him).  Quite a contrast back then when it was mostly fat white guys or skinny white guys with big funny hip pads out on the field.  Bob Hayes was so fast, they had to invent the zone defense to cover him because no one could cover him man to man (see wikipedia link below).  He won two gold medals in the 1964 olympics for the 100 meter and 100 meter relay.  But could he catch a football?  I just now saw a couple of clips on NFL Network where he showed that he could.  Bob Hayes set a lot of Cowboys team records, some of which still stand today.  We always had cable TV and the Cowboys were on nearly every week, so I got to see Bob Hayes play a lot.  He was the first burner I can remember and now he finally made the Hall of Fame today, long overdue.
