Saints GM Mickey Loomis revealed Tuesday that Reggie Bush recently had microfracture surgery on his left knee.
The Saints initially called the surgery a simple scope, but it was much more serious and deals a blow to Bush's long-term outlook. While Loomis claims Bush will be ready by June minicamps, that's far from certain. Athletes that need microfracture typically are nearing a bone-on-bone condition due to a lack of cartilage in a joint. The procedure doesn't always fix the problem. This is the third operation on Bush's left knee in the last two years, which is a very negative sign for a player that relies so much on cutting ability and speed.

That's it, sports fans. End of an era. Just like week 3 in 2007 for Deuce, that's when the bell rang for him. No? Check the stats, they don't have an opinion, strictly the facts:

Oh sure, Reggie will come back and play. And try to cut and won't and we'll scream at him and demand that he be benched and traded. But it's over, for all practical purposes. The Saints need to get a back to cover for PT and it ain't Stecker or Deuce.

anecdotal evidence from loudmouth Randy Cross, second hand

from nola.com comments section:

Randy Cross explained that in all of his years playing and being involved in the league, he has never seen anyone recover fully from this type of surgery.

The Saints will be fine without Bush

Bush missed 6 games in 2008, and the Saints still had the best offense in the NFL. They went 4-2 without him. Pierre Thomas has better averages rushing and receiving.

Bush is not the issue. The offense is not the issue. The future of the Saints will be determined by their defense. We need to become single-issue fans until we get a defensive coordinator worthy of our offense.

It'll take at least another year to dump Gibbs

Payton has his arms crossed with a frown on his face. He’s not budging. We’re staring at another failed D in 2009.

I am NOT buying season tickets in 2009

Do NOT put my name on the waiting list. Just for the record. Just my way of voicing my protest. My own small way. Really small.

beware

If everyone did that… yes it would be heard.
And Benson would cite it as a reason to move the team.

Good point

Excellent point, actually. Is Benson familiar with the term “pwned”?
