SI.com's All-Disappointment Team: Tight End
Jeremy Shockey, Saints -- New Orleans tried to pry Shockey loose from the Giants for six months before trading for him in July, and I'm guessing no one in the Saints organization can even remember why they worked so hard. New Orleans gave up second- and fifth-round picks in 2009 for a guy who was the poster child for low-impact acquisitions this season. The stats say he caught 50 passes for 483 yards in 12 games, but I honestly don't remember seeing any of them. Shockey was always hurt, he lost two fumbles, didn't score any touchdowns, and I didn't even think his new, shorter haircut was all that much. --Don Banks

I like Don Banks
so I wish he’d learn when to shut up. I don’t care about your opinions, Don: I want your insights, based on inside information that I don’t have and you do.
Get this: Jeremy Shockey ranked 11th in the NFL for receptions among tight ends. That’s more than Todd Heap; more than Heath Miller; more than Anthony Fasano or Visanthe Shiancoe or Vernon Davis or Alge Crumpler. More than Kevin Boss. Who’s the disappointment?
He had two fumbles? So did Greg Olsen. So did Dallas Clark. Chris Cooley had 3.
And as for the TDs—well, the Saints didn’t really lack for TDs on offense, did they?
Yeah, he was a disappointment to a lot of Saints fans, but because he was unable to be on the field half the time. So Billy Miller played a lot instead, and you know what? He had 45 receptions. In terms of receptions and yards, Shockey and Miller together are the equivalent of Tony Gonzalez. So which other underachieving tight end should we have instead?
This is just another example of manufactured controversy standing in for real journalism, which is harder. Go back to work, Don.

Should've gone with Kellen Winslow Jr
Wouldn’t have incurred the wrath of M-E.
