Gregg Williams first up
Apparently Gregg Williams, former DC of the Titans Redskins, and most recently Jags, is set to interview for Saints DC. Article also gives a good rundown of other possible candidates (including potential messiah Sean McDermott).

rotoworld.com:
Gregg Williams has reportedly made it a two-horse race with Mike Nolan to be the next Packers defensive coordinator.
It won’t be too hard for the Packers from here. If they want to stay in a 4-3, they’ll pick Williams. If they want a “hybrid” defense or a 3-4, Nolan will be the choice. Nolan would likely also be the cheaper coach to hire.

GAAAAAAH! Lock all the doors! Shut down the airport! Man the levees!
Get Sean McDermott!
Texans also
interested in Williams, he has family ties to Houston and apparently their top choice, it may be the job he’s looking to stay with, he’s kind of been nomadic although aren’t all coaches, Texans also interested in S Taylor Mays, and i think Saints pick ahead of Texans by one need to grab him …peace …metryman………
Houston is on the rise
And they have the makings of a good defense. Williams may be more tempted by their personnel than by ours. Curses! Guess it will have to be Sean McDermott.
Get Sean McDermott!
Can Loo-ton talk to McDermott yet?
If not, I may be hoping for an Eagles loss this weekend just to get the ball rolling. Most of the top D assistant coaches are still in the playoffs so far. I would be surprised to see the Saints, Texans, or Packers name replacements until after this weekend at the earliest. I guess the exception might be with whoever really wants to hire Williams over anyone else.
Go Saints!!!!

Apparently not
I was under the impression that teams could interview personnel on other teams without permission if the job offering constitutes a promotion—i.e., position coach to defensive coordinator. Not so. Turns out, that rule only applies if the interview is for a head coaching position.
So we need to ask Philadelphia for permission. I can’t imagine them refusing (how could you get the best out of any of your employees if you visibly stand in the way of anyone’s career advancement?), but I also can’t imagine them not saying “Kindly wait until our own season is over, you inferior team, you.”
Get Sean McDermott!
"Loo-ton" HA! pretty good
But, given the waste of money that went to starting DE salaries in ‘08, shouldn’t we call the two-headed beast Mis-pay???
The Detroit Lions are on the clock!
HA! Good point!
Don’t forget all the money they also “mispaid” to Jason David.
Go Saints!!!!

Can a man make Daniel Snyder money without it going to his head?
I wonder if Gregg Williams can get over making $3 million a year in Washington. I don’t know how much Payton makes, but I can’t see Benson being the sort of person to pay that kind of money for an assistant coach.
But if he does, might it result in a sort of cash-induced self-importance that would blow up the entire coaching staff?
Get Sean McDermott!
another good point, M-E
When I saw that salary figure, I thought: If Williams is the guy, and Payton approves, and somebody makes the case that this is one of the final pieces to the superbowl puzzle, and if Williams sees opportunity for quick success and a comfortable work environment in New Orleans, then the Saints and Williams will come to terms, and not necessarily by outbidding the competition. Now let’s see how this plays out.
On the other hand
(I love being my own devil’s advocate)
if Ditka and Ryan could win a Super Bowl while at each other’s throats, could an offensive guru (Payton) and a defensive guru (Williams) bring New Orleans a Lombardi Trophy without needing to get along? And would that outcome bother anyone? Hmmm?
Get Sean McDermott!
so, are we more scared of the devil we know, or the devil we don't know?
The Detroit Lions are on the clock!
boy, I can't decide if I'm just tired after a long week of work, or
if I’m just Loo-pay (loopy) over the news of Gibbs’ firing and the excitement of getting a new DC!!
I think I’ll just read (and not post) for the rest of the night until I get a good night’s sleep…
The Detroit Lions are on the clock!
Roger that
Forget Greg Williams, we need a young aggresive DC who’s looking to make a name and stay awhile,i dont know who that guy is but he’s out there some where, personally 2 guys I like that are not that young are the Ryan brothers (they’re not ancient either) the one in Bal. is probably staying there, the one in Oak could be coaxed into N.O.?
