Around SBN: Leandro Damiao Is Still Really Good

The kind of defense the Saints need

I'm unsure whether or not this is against blogging etiquette, but I figure so long as I make perfectly clear that these are not my words, everything should be cool.

I came across this while strolling through the blogosphere:

Was just listening to Pat Kirwin on Sirius NFL Radio, and someone asked about the Saints defense. Kirwin said that Bill Walsh taught him something long ago-- if you have an offense that can score a ton of points, and do so quickly, that you priority, the first thing you need to build on defense, is a very good Nickle defense. You need 3 good corners, 2 good safeties, and a fast, quick LB and Dline group. The reasoning is becuase once you get a two score lead, teams are forced to go to at least 3wr sets and throw more often. This is how Indianapolis wins. This is also why Philidelphia kept Lito Sheppard when they have Brown and Samuels.

I think this make a ton of sense. Long-time Saints fans will remember that Walsh's teams always had superb secondaries, and it was very difficult to come from behind against them. If this isn't solid gold advice, it's at least gold-plated.

makes a lot of sense

if Porter comes back healthe which I assume he will, and we keep Mc Kenzie and Usama Young, then I think the key is to pick up a free safety (everybody agrees on this) and a premier corner. Then, Jason david could stay and Gay also ( but if that’s too expensive, then they are expendable). But, my point is that with a good FS and Porter, Mc Kenzie and another corner on a par with those two, then Jason David, Young et al can it in as nickel CBs and I think they would be okay in that context. Especially if we get better pressure on the QB which I expect will happen because we are getting 2 new Defensive coaches who know the biggest priority on the whole team next season will be pressure on the QB.

Perhaps you think I'm overly sensitive, or even paranoid. Oh no.

Hey Mickey, last time I checked, Litto Sheperd was still unhappy and still not playing much in Philly. Why not make a play for him at a position we could use some help?

GAAAAAA!!!!
