It's not lookin' too great. The Saints have only won 42% of the games following their bye and haven't won in the last five seasons. Worse still and even more important, they have never won under the direction of head coach Sean Payton.
The showdown with the Giants this Sunday is a pivotal game with possibly serious ramifications; will Sean Payton and the Saints be able to disregard history and finally come away with a "W" following the bye?

Different team, different year
The Saints are a different team this year and should take care of business against the Giants. This will be another physical match-up, but the Saints have shown that they are as tough and physical as anyone. When the Saints win this one, there will be no doubt that they are a team of destiny this year!

So true
and if you look at the last few games against the Giants we have won 2 out of 3. I personally don’t count the Katrina game which was played at Giants Stadium and called a home game.
We have beaten the Giants in 2003 and 2006.

This year has proven that past results don't matter.
This year started off as we all expected with Dr. Drew cutting up a weak defense. Week two, the running game and turnover differential were the deciding factors. Take away the special teams TD @ Buffalo and week three was a punch em in da mouth physical beatdown on the road. Week four, the offense did just enough to hold its own and the D smothered and outscored the opponent’s offense. These are things I haven’t seen since the late 80s.
Each week the D improves and gains confidence. Couple that with GW’s familiarity with the Giants, home field AND two weeks to prepare and I’m not worried.
Although all that is predicated on the fact SP doesn’t try to get cute with play calls!

key factor in this game
I feel like the key factor in this game will rest on Drew Brees’ shoulders and the passing game. Honestly, last week our offense was rather pedestrian. They scored a field goal and a rushing touchdown. Based on offensive production from both the Jets and Saints, it was a tie ball game with both offenses scoring 10 a piece. The D did their thing and pulled out the win. I expect no less from the Giants as far as defense. They to have an aggressive D and if they can keep pressure on Drew then this will again be a close game. I only hope that our D continues their trend and comes out fighting until the end. For us to win and win big, the offense has to have way better production than last week. We will only be able to run the ball so much before we start to get shut down. The passing game will be a key factor. Our receivers have to do a better job of getting open. I personally want to see more of Lance Moore in this one. He has a rep of running great routes and finding ways to get open. He also causes a lot of defensive fouls (interference calls) due to this fact. Both of those reasons will help improve the passing effort in this game.
3 teams in one
It was an offensive tie but The Saints and all teams are comprized of 3 departments offense , defense and special teams all expected to contribute. The fact that the saint are scoring in all 3 phases makes them wicked scarey. I do hope the offense can be more productive. This going to be a close one. 24-20 Saints
i think we're all on the same page
i think we’ll see d.brees back in his supernatural form against the giants this week. i’ve been calling for it on every thread i’ve commented on so far, but i really think using PT or RB in screens and delays will work out well for us this week. our D needs to play with the same intensity and aggressiveness it has for the past few weeks and i think we come out of this game a decisive winner. like most of our games this year, i think the first half will make the game look interesting. look for the saints to blow up in the second half and have many giants fans change the channel.
I'm not at all concerned...
if the Saints lose to a team like the Giants following the bye week. If they were playing a subpar divisional team like the Panthers or the Bucs, then we can worry about bye week karma.
Yeah and if you look back on those teams and their seasons, they were pretty tough
But we are different this year. Going to be one hell of a game but we can prevail. But this is one of those “it is a team effort”
Saints can beat the Giants. But if they dont mesh as a team, The victor will be the Giants
the last five teams we lost to after the bye were all superior teams
its not like we lost to the detroits and clevelands. if the giants beat us, it will be because they are the better team. but, i believe that we have a better team and the good guys will win.

How do they do in games following a 10 point 4th quarter output?
Point is you can come up with all kinds of historical facts… while they can sometimes add up to be a trend, most of the time they mean nothing. Payton’s post bye record is nothing more than an anomaly. There’s nothing they’re doing during the bye weeks that are hampering their ability to play in these games, just the luck of the draw.
weve made history
Im not worried we are truly the most dominat team in the nfl right now.years as I watched the patriots the sb rams the steelers i always wished to have a team like them now i say were better than those teams.plus weve already broke payton personal best pf 3-0 in 06 so this year is already diffrent from the others we will take out the Giants.Im more worried about the miami game WHO DAT
Yeah
that freakin’ wildcat has torn us up this year and Miami runs it better than anyone. We are just lucky teams we’ve played got away from it.
I was actually just discussing that with a co-worker over lunch. I honestly believe Philadelphia would have beaten us, had they stuck with the Wildcat all game long. Why on earth do you abandon something that’s netting you 4 and 5 yards a pop?! Not complaining, just a little nervous about Miami next week, as well.

I don't know
why they went away from it. Almost more so the Jets. They were gashing us with it too and they were still in the game.
"Everyone has a plan 'till they get punched in the mouth." --Mike Tyson
I picked Miami in the poll
about which team would hand the Saints their first loss. The Saints D has not been effective at all against the wildcat, and no team runs it better than the Dolphins. The silver lining from the Jets-Dolphins game last night is that the same Jets offense that couldn’t get out of its own way against the Saints managed to put up 27 points on Miami. The Dolphins secondary is mediocre, and Drew & Co. should be able to have their way with them.
Rest EASY Saints fans
We are just the best darn team in the NFL right now, period!!!! All of the parts of our team will come for the WIN.. SAINTS 42……..giants 20 WHODAT!!!!!!
BLACK SUNDAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Saint fans………………Wear your black shirts, Tee’s, Dresses, sweaters, sweat shirts or whatever and create a BLACK SUNDAY in the dome for dem Giants. Lets make it five an O and ready to go.
Yeah, but more important
Are the Saints wearing the undefeated GOLD pants?

About the bye week nonsense
The Saints have won under Payton after a bye. Anyone else remember that Eagles playoff game? It was after a bye. Besides, they’re not following New Orleans history this season, they’re making it.
GEAUX Saints.
Media
All the media folk are sying the Giants should win ! Then why is it that we are 3 1/2 pt
favorites ? Doesn’t matter where anything is played if every one thinks you are not good enough to beat a team. Somethings wrong somewhere folks. The money people (Vegas) say ..put your money on the Saints but….Media says the Giants will win. I just watch Mike@ Mike and they said the Giants will quote .. (upset)…the Saints and win ?
I really don’t understand this crap cause it makes no since !! If the Giants are better then us then they should be the odds favorite (lol). I think the Saints are better as of right now mainly because of the weak teams that NY has played. I think the Saints defence is why we are 4-0 at this point. Our offence is great but I am a little concerned about the last 2 weeks and how the defences have shut down Drew Brees. I still think we will pull this one out some kind of a way but it will be a HUGE nail bitter
LOL
But really it don’t matter anyway cause come Monday , all we will see is what Dallas @ Romo did win loose or draw. Don’t forget Farve,McNabb,Vick,Brady !!!! They might even rerun the greatest hits of the Manning Bros again, you know , what they do when they have a bye week or something ?….Come on media , move on !!!
