NY Giants @ New Orleans Saints: Game Predictions

Monkey Poop Battle
Feels like forever since we've had our last official prediction contest. In case you've forgotten, Monkey Poop Battle was the winner of our last contest when the Saints beat the Jets before the bye. Congratulations go out to him. The tough part is repeating the feat.
And now it's time for this weeks predictions. You all should know the rules by now. Score prediction, followed by three random predictions about the game that are clearly understandable and not ambiguous. Visiting Giants fans are more than welcome to join us this week but please stick to the format.
Go forth and predict!

Saints 31, Giants 26
1. Total score is over the 47.5 point spread.
2. Drew Brees and Eli Manning both throw for over 250 yards (that’s apiece, not together)
3. The Shockmeister scores a touchdown and celebrates by bedding Vida Guerra on the 50-yard line.
(You can Google “Vida Guerra.” It’s safe. Wouldn’t do it at work, unless people are cool with pics of a chick in a bikini.)

I love Mollys at the Market
It’s like a live taping of Jerry Springer every weekend! Once, I was stupidly trying to intervene in a fight at that place(I was drunk, and thought it would be the “right” thing to do), and while I was holding this one guy back, some girl reached over my shoulder and smashed a beer bottle over his head! Then we all got maced by what I assume was an employee. Good times.

I once saw
from the front window at Molly’s, a drunk dancing down the street stop to kick the snot out of another drunk lying in a doorway. Then not a minute later a cop walked past from the other direction, bent over the drunk lying in the doorway, pulled his nightstick, and clubbed him in the head. Then walked off. While a tourist couple watched in horror. Just another night in the quarter.

1. Drew breaks his “streak” and passes for 200+ yards and 1+ TD. (Is that as weird for you to hear as me to type?)
2. Eli has a “decent” game or better (200+ yards and 1+ TD) but also commits 1+ turnovers (fumble or INT counts).
3. Shockey does one of two things, or perhaps both: A) catches 1+ TDs and delivers a hard hit to an attempted tackler at least once in the game, B) gets absolutely lit up by a G-Man defensive player that at least appears to be trying to knock him out of the game, drawing in the process a personal foul penalty or at least many/all of us screaming at the refs for not throwing the flag.
Bonus: Saints will win the turnover battle and the game.

Gmen 31 Saints 23
1) The Saints are a very good team, once of the best in the NFC, and they are capable of winning this game though I do not think that they will.
2) Many teams like the Saints or Vikings become the “flavor of the month” like the Panthers were in the last few weeks of last season – until the Giants beat them down. The Giants have the same core that beat the Pats and was last years #1 NFC Seed and have improved their personnel from that.
3) After this game, many will realize what I am seeing – that this Giants team continues to evolve and has the chance to be THE best I have seen in my lifetime of 40+ years. They are experienced, balanced and deep. Old Giants football was to squeak by teams like the Raiders and Bucs, but this team put their foot on their throat and crushed them. Thats what elite teams do.
I expect we may see a rematch down the line irregardless of the outcome.

What elite teams do
like…the Patriots? Who went 16-0, and then blew the Super Bowl to a sixth seed?
I don’t doubt what you’re seeing…the Giants really are good. Anything I wrote to the contrary was just me being contrary. But you make it sound as though the Gmen are going to be good permanently. In fact, you’re one sore foot away from maybe missing the playoffs. (And that’s not me just being contrary…I’ve seen David Carr play. Be afraid. Be very afraid.)
A lifetime of being a Saints fan has taught be this bit of wisdom: don’t get cocky. It can all go bad real fast.

Of course...
But how are you gonna say one Giants fan is being cocky when he predicted an 8 point victory, all the while he’s sandwiched in between 20 to 30 point victory predictions in favor of the Saints?
R.A.‘s 56-7 prediction, one might call that cocky (I’d call it ridiculous) but I don’t think RunGmenRun’s prediction should be considered cocky.

56-7 is absolutely ridiculous
Probably meant as such, too. Don’t really know. I think the “cockiness”(that’s an awesome word) comes from the three statements more than the spread. The score may very well be accurate. The “flavor of the month” thing, and the posibility that someone on Earth “doesn’t realize” the Giants will be the best ever, sounds a bit cocky. Which is cool. Y’all have a great team. Might as well enjoy it.

Re-reading it...
It was probably just this one sentance: “Thats what elite teams do.”
I could see that coming off a bit cocky, but the rest…
After this game, many will realize what I am seeing – that this Giants team continues to evolve and has the chance to be THE best I have seen in my lifetime of 40+ years. They are experienced, balanced and deep. Old Giants football was to squeak by teams like the Raiders and Bucs, but this team put their foot on their throat and crushed them.
Is pretty spot on. These Giants could very well be the best ever…over the years we’ve become accustomed(?) to the Giants playing down to inferior opponents, even in the year they won the Super Bowl they beat the 1-15 Dolphins 13-10. This year they are destroying those same inferioir opponents, and clearly Run is excited about it.

In New Orleans,
You’re preaching to the choir. While recently we’ve played all-around mediocre ball(bully bad teams, get beat down by good ones), we have a rich history of playing down, then giving good teams a real game. It was maddening in the Haslett era.

See, that's what I meant by "cocky"
The best ever? No team quarterbacked by Eli Manning will ever be “the best ever.” Consistently good, perhaps. But great? I don’t see it. This team would get its butt kicked by either of Parcells’ Super Bowl teams.

Ya'll just now noticed that?
Look, I lived in La. a looong time. My own family are some of the biggest morons you’ll ever meet. I was a futuristic, forward thinking, contemplative kid growing up around people who couldn’t talk about anything but their fishing camp and their sister-in-laws. Football, food, Wal-Mart, sure. Quantum physics, astral travel, string theory, no. Even in college, it seemed the girls were just there to find a husband and the guys were just there to party. So, forgive me for my harsh assessment, I just call ’em how I see ’em. Besided, I was hoping my comments might draw someone interesting into the open or at least make the shallow and dumbed-down take a good look at themselves.
Didn’t I say I love ya’ll? And I noticed no one argued about what I said about the cops and politicians. LOL!

I understand fandom, but some of the predictions blow my mind. The giants didn’t go 1-15 last year. This isn’t a team that has a bunch of new players in key positions. This is the same team from last year, just a little better because of some of the additions. ie Osi, Canty, and Boley. the last two are out for this game. but that just means last years starters are going to start this game. not some rookie or journeyman. the saints remind me a lot of last years Cards. High scoring offense, new found defense. granted they went to the SB but we went to there house, no experts picked us and we dropped like 52 on them. So becareful guys. And really good luck this season. I really do like rooting for the saints (other than this week of course)

Last year's Cardinals?
Sorry, but either you have no clue about the differences in this Saints team and that Cardinals team or you’re just trying to talk us down like every other team’s fans have this year. One HUGE difference is that we have a running game. The running game for AZ last season was a joke. And you can’t even compare the two defenses…AZ won games on offense last year, not defense. We won a bad weather game in Buffalo on defense and a healthy running game and did the same against the Jets. Come talk to me after the Giants drop 52 on us this weekend and maybe I’ll give you some leeway, but personally I don’t see that happening. And the Giants actually won 37-29 on November 23, 2008…I don’t think the Giants will come close to 37, either, though. One other big difference between us and the Cardinals is they only scored one more point than they allowed last season…that’s not average per game, but total. The AVERAGE point differential for the Saints this season is 19.5. I don’t mind people being fans and a little smack talk, but if you’re going to make comparisons like that, you need to be able to back it up…
by BlackandGold4ever on Oct 17, 2009 7:39 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
wow
you make so many points that I have to dismantle…you should break them up into different posts. Let me know if I miss anything. I’ll give you I was completely off with the score. Maybe it just felt like we scored 50…lol. But as far as them not having a running game. I’m only going off their first 4 games, cuz that’s all you’ve played. Edge had 100 in the first game and 93 in the 3rd game. Sounds pretty good to me. Then you mentioned that they didn’t win any games on defense. Well they only gave up 13 to the 49ers and and the cards only scored 23 so not exactly a blow out. and the only gave up 10 pts to the dolphins (a team that went 11-5 and won their division). so uhm…I’m not really sure what you’re talking about, but Im sure you were pumped when you were making your point.
oh yeah…someone said something about the giants not being good forever…Yeah, you’re probably right. but they’ll be good for a while. they’re entire team is 30 and under (as far as key players are concerned. Guys like Feagles is in his 40’s). the only key player over 30 is Shaun O’hara and he’s 32. So since this is essentially the same team as the SB team, and the team that went 12-4 last year, I feel comfortable that they’ll be good for a while.
And for the guy who said we’re a sore foot to the qb from missing the playoffs. Well honestly from what I’ve seen from carr, I’m comfortable with him running the team. The saints on the other hand are one achy, surgically repaired shoulder from the Mark Brunell era.
by maculis on Oct 17, 2009 8:19 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
nice cherry pickin'
The Cardinals were ranked dead last in rushing offense last year. You only want to consider their first four games? They totaled 348 yards rushing in those. The Saints rushed for more than that in 2 games this year. As for the Cardinals defense last year, they were ranked 19th in total yards, 28th in points. In those first four games, they gave up about 26 points/game. Favre threw 6 TDs against that “stout” defense. Does that still sound good to you? LOL – are you serious?

The Niners and the Dolphins?
Who cares what Miami’s record was…that was week 2 and Miami was down 17-0 in the first half. In case you hadn’t noticed, this Miami team is not built to come from behind and likes to run all the time. Cardinals had teo passes over 75 yards in the first quarter alone. And the Niners were a joke on offense last season with all the QB nonsense due to Mike Martz being Mike Martz.
As for the rushing attack, the Saints are averaging 166.3 yards per game with THREE different starting RB’s so far (who are all now healthy). From the post below, you’ll not the healthy average rushing yards per game after four games for the 2008 Cardinals was 87.0. We almost double that per game.
So while you may not be sure what I was talking about, I am kind enough to put up the facts for you so you can play catch up with the rest of us.
And if you’re comfortable with Carr running your team you are CRAZY. Brunell can run the passing game pretty effectively…Carr is still hearing footsteps from his days as a Texan. And seeing as I have lived in Houston now for 6 years, I’ve had more than ample opportunity to see him in action. He didn’t change when he went to the Panthers and from what I’ve read on BBV, it doesn’t seem he’s changed any by being on the Giants. I can’t say I blame him after playing with what they pieced together as an O-line when his career started. Point is, NO team is good enough to make up for his shortcomings and win a Super Bowl if he is the starting QB. He isn’t even in the same neighborhood as Trent Dilfer.
Are the Giants on a great run from their Super Bowl run through now, yes. But I think a lot of fans are waiting to see how the new players being worked in on offense look this week before saying this team is where they were before Burress threw his career (and the Giants Super Bowl aspirations) away because he had to strap up to go out clubbing.
On a side note…How pissed are you guys about all of that? On a personal level, what if you happened to be anywhere around that madness and could have been shot? And as a fan, isn’t that why these players have their posse and bodyguards? Let them pack heat and protect you…let them earn their keep. Then play through the playoffs and get another ring…guess that’s too simple.

when the Saints played the Eagles they were number 1. the Jets were supposedly one of the elite D’s. The Bills WERE one the the best. I’m talking about WHEN they played they were supposedly best D’s, now they of course are nothing. The Dolphins will run on everybody they play, in case you haven’t noticed they ONLY run the ball. About 30% of their offensive plays are without even having a QB in… When the Saints play the Giants tomorrow, the Giants will be called the best D that they face. Do you remember what the Cowgirls did? what was it like 250 yards I believe?
And they’re ranked around 15th against the run. Remember they played Tampa, Kansas City, Washington, & Oakland. Could there be any worse teams right now? That’s the very bottom of the barrel cuz.
Washington had 85 yards & a td rushing, they ONLY beat them by 6.
Dallas had 251 yards & 3 tds rushing, won by 2, wow.
Tampa Bay only had 28 yards, good job, oh wait they only rushed 7 times? 4 yard average, not that good but they were supposed to win & they killed them, nice win.
Kansas City a decent 105 yards & they only beat them by 11. should’ve been wayyyy worse.
Poor lil Oakland got 60 yards & a td, but again the Giants were supposed to beat them & slaughtered them.
Now should I even tell you how many wins each of those teams have or I’m pretty sure you already know. That is very impressive.
Anyway all New York teams go down to Saints.

That’s why you look at averages, instead of individual game numbers. The Cowboys are one of the best rushing teams, and they ran all over the Giants. Every good player or unit “severely inflates” their stats. That’s what they’re there to do. Inversely, the anemic rushing offenses of Tampa, Kansas, and Oakland have “severely deflated” your rushing D average. Our rushing offense stats are “severely inflated” by the players performing the rushes. What’s the point?

The Chiefs ran for 105 yards against the Giants, the only team KC has done that against. Even the Raiders held them to 67. The only way the GIants hold the Saints to under 100 yards rushing is to put 8 or 9 in the box and we both know Brees would have career day against any team foolish enough to do that.

Giants 24 - Saints 14
1. Since we goin off of the teams we played lets talk about the teams they played. dont need 2 say much about the lions or the bills. lets talk about a philly team who played with a back up QB and he put up nearly 400 yrds passing( he was only 9 away from 400) against ur defense. it was his 1st start ever. lets not get too happy off of those 3 picks ladies and gents. the Qbs they faced was Trent Edwards, Kevin Kolb, Matt Stafford And Mark “Franchise”. Neither team has played any great Qbs but at least we played a Qb that was mention as one of the best n tha league at one point ( tony Homo).
2. The LIONS scored more points on ya defense then the Raiders, cheifs and bucs scored on us put 2gether (0,16, 7). And the only player in ya defensive back field that is really makin plays is sharper.
3. im done

Check your math...
The Lions scored 20 on our defense – the other 7 was on a fumble return. I believe 16+7=23.
Grab that slide rule and figure it out, hoss.
