Would the Dolphins be a Contender?

If Drew would have signed with the Dolphins instead of the Saints before the 2006 season would the Dolphins be a legitimate Super Bowl conterder?

With the talent that Miami has would Drew flourish or is it like everyone said about Matt Casselland that it is the system that the quaterback is in that contributes to their success? Would he be able to control the "Wildcat"? What do you all think? I'm just truly gald that it worked out in our favor. Thanks again

What you're asking

is essentially: is Drew a better quarterback than Daunte Culpepper, Joey Harrington, Trent Green, John Beck, Cleo Lemon, Chad Henne, or Chad Pennington? And the answer is: hell yes, f*ckin A, true dat, yeah you right, f’sure, affirmative, and Is the pope German?

It still AMAZES me that Fate allowed us, instead of the Dolphins, to sign Drew. That will be remembered as one of the great turning points of this franchise, like drafting Joe Montana was for the 49ers.

As for the Dolphins…well, the reason they run the Wildcat is: they have nothing else.

not even sure if he'd still be there

The Dolphins are still a developing franchise.

Incidentally, the Bills fan who sat next to me at the game (nice guy, very funny) told me in quite confidential tones that he knows someone who knows the Bills’ GM. He said when Drew was a free agent after the 2005 season, this GM tried repeatedly to contact Drew’s agent and arrange a visit and interview in Buffalo. He wanted Drew really badly, but didn’t even get a call back. Understandable, he said. Who’d want to play in that windy cold Buffalo weather when you could be in Miami or New Orleans?

Why would he no longer be there?

good question

I think the Dolphins would be much better off.

They'd be better off

but I don’t think he’d be putting up nearly the same numbers he has in New Orleans. Primarily because he would have had a formidable running game to work with all along, i.e., they wouldn’t rely on him as much. Playing in the same division as the Patriots wouldn’t do much for reputation either.

As far as being

a Super Bowl contender goes, I don’t think they’d be considered one any more than the Saints are at present. The Saints and Dolphins are actually similiar teams talent-wise, outside of Brees. Of course, you’d have to think had Miami landed Brees, they wouldn’t have spent two second round picks on QBs since, making them a bit more formidable on the whole.

I think the Saints have much more talent than the Dolphins.

Our receivers are way better, our 5 RBs (including Evans) are better than theirs, our defensive backs are better than theirs, granted they have Porter and J Taylor as LBs, but I’ll take our LBs (in tandem with GW) because Porter and Taylor have 23 years between them and are on the other far of their career. Our depth, other than OT is better, and I think there is a reason they are 0-3 and we are 3-0 and it’s not all Drew.

Did the question apply only to this year?

I think last year, for instance, the Dolphins might have been able to be the top seed in the AFC if they’d had Brees instead of Pennington. This season, they could be 2-1 instead of 0-3. Or not. Doesn’t matter. Drew’s a Yat, now.

I disagree

on most of your personnel assessments. Miami’s RB corps is far better than ours. Their WRs are of a similiar class, at least among those who actually see the field. Even their third best OLB (Channing Crowder) would start over either of the two chumps we pride ourselves on. DBs, nothing ridiculously one-sided there either. They have both the youth and veteran leadership we carry. I agree that there’s a reason they’re 0-3 and we’re 3-0. It’s because they’ve played three legitimate playoff contenders to open the season, two on the road, and lost their starting QB for the season to a torn rotator cuff in one of them. Care to guess how many wins the Saints would have eeked out under that scenario? Probably one, tops.

BAH.. and BAH!

i usually refrain from commenting on your posts cause I dont think much of you and I find hard to not call you names.. but this is too much.

You sir.. are an idiot if you honestly think that Miami RB corps is far better then ours.
Get glasses or something would you.

WR similar class? Using the word similar gets you an ok on this. I think that ours has more depth then theirs but they are not that far apart.

Crowder would get a chance to start but then since our Chumps… have outlasted every OLB to try to take their job from them I think he might have trouble too.

DBs nothing onesided there at all, i mean we have a what ranked defense? whats Miami’s? Alot of that is our rather good DBs. Bet you if you asked them they would take any of our top 4.. would we want any of their top 4?

We played the eagles on the road – pssst they are a playoff contender
We played the Jets at home – pssst they are a playoff contender.

Color us lucky.

I think we are lucky to have Brees. I’m not sure how he would have done with Miami but I know he is loved here. Its a perfect fit if you ask me soooo all hail Drew and our Superbowl this year.

I've tasted the Kool-Aid and its damn good! I'm Just a Westbank native stuck in East Texas (Lufkin). I've got Sunday Ticket if you are in my area and wanna watch the game. Who Dat!!!

Hes a great fit with Sean P

That is one of the big reasons hes so great here. Sean P didnt quite have the skills to do what he wanted when he was playing QB so he uses Drew to do them. Miami doesnt have Drews fit at head coach.

He would've been good at Miami

but not as good as he is here. Ted Ginn Jr. is not that good along with the WR corps their as a whole. Pennington is a pretty decent QB but their WRs aren’t too great. Plus, the wildcat is obviously not doing good for them now since they haven’t won a game.

Superbowl bound!!!...I know! do you?! Go Saints!!

Trust me

if Ginn, Camarillo and Bess were running routes on the Poydras Street carpet, you wouldn’t be able to detect the difference. The only guy we’d truly miss is Colston in the red zone, as none of them are that big. They’re all niche WRs. Serviceable talent, nothing terribly special. Remember, Camarillo and Bess weren’t even drafted. Ginn was a first round pick that took a couple of years to come into his own. Any of this sounding familiar?

just asking

If Drew had gone to Miami, would they have ever used the wildcat? I think we would miss Shockey in the red zone also.

I wasn’t including TEs. Fasano’s not bad, though. I think they still would have used the Wildcat, regardless. I think it would be even more effective in an offense that employs a top tier QB, provided he isn’t lined up wide, i.e., side-by-side with the alternate trigger man.

BAH again

Brees would problem have said F em and left if they put a wild cat in.

They started the wild cat cause they didnt have the recievers or the QB to play NFL football so they went back to collage football. And it worked.

Good for them. It worked very well last year but this year? not so much.

I just can’t see Drew in any of those situations, We got excited when he ran for two 1st downs last week.

Oh, I don’t think he’d be running the Wildcat himself, if that’s what you meant.

RIGHHHHHHHT

He would be sitting on the sidelines .. .one of the best QBs in the game on the sideline to run gimmicks.

Does your brain communicate with your fingers before you type some of this drivel?
