Reggie in the Wildcat
Everyone's been talking about the wildcat lately. I know Miami has been successful with it, but not to a huge degree. As most have pointed out, kind of hard to run the ball when you're down 14 points. I just see it as a non-factor in this game. Sure, they'll get some 3rd down conversions and make some yardage, but I seriously doubt it'll gash our defense as much as some people think.
In practice the Saints had Reggie Bush running the wildcat to help prepare. Does anyone think SP might throw one in there just to mess around with Miami (even though we may have a huge lead before he'd ever consider it). I'm not saying we should EVER take the ball out of Breesus' hands. But I do recall direct snaps to our Running Backs on a few occasions in the past.
My question is, does anyone see Sean Payton throwing some trick plays in this game such as: a variation of the wildcat, direct snaps to running backs, allowing Lance Moore to throw or pitch (he is a back-up QB).
And before calling me insane, I'm not saying we should do any of these things, I'm just pointing out we have done unconventional plays in the past for good yardage so it may be a possibility we see some of SP's'gimmick' offense plays. (Plus, you know he'd love to run some weird thing for massive yardage as an FU to the wildcat and Parcells).

I Like the Idea
Payton does like to always look for new innovative ways to move the ball and this would be a great way to get Reggie the ball with some room to run and also for Reggie to take a snap and misdirect the play by handing off and seeing if
the defense would over key on him leaving others to make easy gains. And I think you are right as I posted in another discussion, we have had direct snaps to rbs before. No one would be ready to defend the Wildcat against us, it would blow their minds.

The SP Factor
That’s one of the things I like best about Sean Payton. He always has THAT look in his eye. I get the feeling that, maybe once in a while, he sends in a play, turns to the rest of the team on the sideline and says, “Hey y’all, watch this!” He is fun to watch!

i like the idea but...
they know the wildcat, weather or not it works well they do know it…
I think personally that if we actually did run it, it would most likey look bad on us and SP.
I think we have been doing a freaking great job staying on of the “mud slinging” if you will, and keeping positive and looking only one game ahead…
as you can see the fins are nervous… multiple posts of things like we are fondling our balls and such… they want to piss us off, make others look down on us again
they think we are on a high horse… well i got news for them
we aren’t on any high horse.. we are freaking riding high on wins… and im damn proud of the saints!!

Mark Shlereth made this God awful comment about how Miami will beat us because of the hot and humid weather. All I got to say is: Tell that to the Clemson Tigers.

Six months of the year? ONLY six months of the year?
In south Louisiana there are only two seasons. Summer, which runs from December to January. And the rest of the year you have hell on Earth.
Heat and humidity in FL may be bad but Louisiana isn’t far behind!

My take
It’s hot and still in NOLA, But at least there will be a Brees blowing up a storm in Miami.

The Saints don’t have the proper OL personnel to run the Wildcat effectively. They’re well below average in outside containment on running plays. If they weren’t, there wouldn’t be a “it’s too soon to give up on Reggie” thread, as outside the hashmarks is — and always has been — his (stale) bread and (imitation) butter. Even if Thomas or Bell were used, I don’t see it behooving us to the point of making us a better offense on the whole. On top of which, when you attempt to run a complex misdirection play, without any sort of regularity, your own unfamiliarity can lead to errors. The botched 4th-and-1 Bush-to-Henderson pitch against the Bucs a couple of years back is a prime example of that. It wound up costing us that game. I have no problem with Payton pulling a trick play out of his hat every so often, in order to keep opposing defenses on their toes, but let’s leave the high wire stunts to the experts, before someone falls and misses the net.

Seems like on Reggie's TD last week
the kick out block worked quite well and that’s the type of run that could work with the Polecat. also, just Reggie handing off to PT diving in the 1 or 2 gap would be minimal risk.

I'm against it.
While it may work and be effective, I think the biggest thing we have aiding our running game is the defense’s fear the Brees is going to hold onto the ball and light up the secondary on the play action. The only time I could see the wildcat being used and even necessary is late in the game when we’re trying to run the clock.

Hey , Miami is experts with the wild-cat. lets see now, they got 30 yards total ?
Lets forget it folks , we don’t need it.I think we can set back and let the coaches do what they are doing right now….WIN GAMES AND STAY UNDEAFEATED
