Here's a stat to put the Wildcat in perspective
The Saints throw the ball, on average, 32 times per game. The Dolphins, on average, throw 29 times per game. Now although it is true that the Dolphins run more than the Saints, maybe as many as 12 times more per game, it is obvious that they throw pretty often and that the passing game is pretty important to them. Theoretically there could be problems with the Saints managing the Wildcat, but let's face it this Dolphins QB is going to have to be pretty darn good passing against a tough defense to win- they haven't been able to win by just running the ball, they had to pass also. And, they only won 2 out of 5 games at that. So, 1) if they are successful and can win by mostly relying on the Wildcat, then good for them- they deserve to win, or 2) if they can win through the air and Henne can have more success with his passing game than Brees does- then good for them , they deserve to win. And, 3) if they try to beat us with balance, well, balance seems to be our middle name this year, so see #1 and #2 if they can outplay us with balance.

Wildcat????
Next thing you know they’ll be “inventing” the Lonely End or the Single Wing. The wildcat has been tried on-and-off for a few decades. Why hasn’t it caught on? The answer will come this Sunday.
Stay tuned, y’all.

The thing is, the Wildcat has caught on
the NFL is coming full circle, in the beginning the wildcat was a commonplace, the forward pass didn’t exist and running was how people won game.
The forward pass made its debut and was considered a gimmick at first, but that eventually changed the face of the NFL. It eventually became that you needed the forward pass to win games, simply put, and now teams use it more than actually running the ball.
So last year the ‘fins re-introduced the NFL to the wildcat and while I’m not saying that the wildcat is going to replace the forward pass, but I’m saying that in given time people will actually start to see how it contributes and it will be more commonly run.
And for the record, no-one on the phinsider, nor the Miami coaches (at least I hope not), say we invented the wildcat, we simply saw how our personnel can benefit from it, and we used it to our advantage (it was more the media than anything else, saying how Miami invented the wildcat)

I Put
“inventing” in quotation marks just for fun. I did not take the time to actually check the copywrite or patent archives. That being said, and after considering your blog entry, the Wildcat Offense that the Miami Dolphine “invented” still sucks. I did check that fact with the AMA.
Now, let this one go and prep for your next game. Maybe you can hit ’em with a Rabid Dog!
