Being in Charlotte, I Don't Always Get the Straight News
There is talk that the Saints are going to let Jammal Brown walk. The talk is with the development of Bushrod, the Saints don't need Brown. Since his contract ends at the end of the season, the Saints are not going to make an effort to resign him, because of economics. I don't like this talk at all.
Bushrod has played well, but he is not Jammal Brown. I like the idea of Bushrod and Brown at tackle on the same line. I think having three quality tackles to rotate in the lineup will keep them fresh going into that fourth quarter, where the Saints need to continue to dominate. The talk here in Charlotte is the Panthers are going to make a big push to sign him, along with a free agent qb.
My question is, is this wishful thinking by the Panther or does this story have legs? This story really bothers me. Can someone enlighten me? Or do some of you think this is a good move?

Since nobody else has heard a peep about this...
I’d put it down as sour grapes Panthers talk.

Pro Football Weekly was talking about the rumor. Here’s the reference http://www.profootballweekly.com/2009/11/11/saints-not-expected-to-cut-ties-with-brown.

The big question with Jammal
is going to be how he recovers from the hip surgery. He and the team have been very quiet about the injury and its prognosis. I’m no sports doc, but it seems to me that reduced flexibility or stability in the hip would be a very bad thing for an offensive tackle. So, until the question of how well he recovers can get answered, there’s not enough information. I assume the Saints would want to have some sort of workout in the offseason before the free agency date to figure out where he is, and whether he’ll ever be 100% again.
working out
doesn’t always translate into his play on the field. For that reason, I believe that we at least go for a 1 year deal and keep Bushrod progressing while seeing just how well he comes back from the injury. That’s why we got Drew Brees, his surgery. I’m not sure if they worked him out and let him go or if they just let him go before the surgery or what, but I wouldn’t want to be like the Chargers in that situation and let a great player go b/c he didn’t work out well. Jamal is still young and has alot of playing days left ahead of him so I think we’ll keep him but idk if it’d be long or short term.
Superbowl bound!!!...I know! do you?! Go Saints!!

Well, not that I exactly like them (understatement alert) but in their (grudging) defense they knew they had a pretty good backup waiting in the wings who could take over.
And as much as I love Drew, he wouldn’t have been the player he is had he stayed in SD or went to MIA. He caught the perfect trifecta of circumstances — a coach who knows how to use his skills, a very good (and underrated) OL, and a good deep receiving corp with loads of options. Add to that the way all three parts fit together and the synergy makes all three parts better than their raw ability on their own. Not that they don’t have it on their own, they have lots of it… but the synergy makes them even better.
If we hadnt just resigned stichcomb
I would say resign Brown and put him at right tackle next year. season ending hip surgery on a left tackle worries me though. How is he gonna block the best pass rusher on the field with a gimp hip? Pass blocking has alot to do with you hips, and thier flexibility and strength. It doesn’t seem too far fetched to assume a season ending hip surgery might result in a some loss of that flexibility and strength.
What would be nice would be Bushrod at LT, Brown at RT. I think at that point, we’d have the best O-line in the league.
Another epic huge issue is price. I’m pretty sure Brown is gonna want some sort of massive contract. I see us offering him a modest 4 year deal that he will decline. He’ll hit free agency and sign a 6 year 60 million or so deal with dallas or something.
I dont think he’ll be with us next year, but im not sure thats really too big of an issue.
Brown is a restricted FA
A coNTRACT LIKE THAT WOULD COST AT LEAST TWO NUMBER ONES. DO YOU SEE A TEAM GIVING US TWO ONRS OR MORE FOR BROWN?
