The SAINTS IMMEDIATE FUTURE

Like every one else who is a Saints fan, I find myself more frequently having to hold my breath more, as the season progresses.  Lately the Saints have been looking like a team who I remember winning games they should not have, and losing games they should not have.  However, the difference between that team in the past, and this New Orleans team is that they are 9-0!

Question: 1  If you had a meeting with Sean Payton, what changes would you reccomend, that are needed ASAP for the success of the remaining season for the offense.

Question: 2 If you had a meeting with Greg Williams, what changes would you reccomend that are needed for the success of the remaining season for the defense.

Question: 3  What  would you reccomend for sustainment on offense and defense.

I am looking for specifics. Example follow:

Answers such as "we need to stop the run better" will not be accepted.

Answers such as adding X player at X position will help do X to the run

Answers such as Drew needs to stop throwing interceptions will not be accepted

Answers such as adding X player at X position will help the passing game by?

Actions of players are also accepted if they are specific in nature.

After everyone has answered the 3 questions i will place the the top 4 answers of each question up for a vote.

Then we will break it down in a runoff.  Afterwards, we will eventually recieve the top 3 answers that you have voted for.

Enjoy

Injuries are the problem on defense

With no possibility of trading, because the deadline is pastm we are pretty much stuck with waiting for all our players to get healthy. Without Sed at dt, we are small inside and need him to get healthy, unless you think getting Young out of retirement will help.
On offense, I think execution is our problem. We have too many receivers dropping balls or putting it on the ground. I also think that one LSU receiver is running lazy routes at times. We need Lance Moore back to shore up our short to medium routes over the middle or maybe its time to work Reggie in the slot to get him in the secondary with space to do some damage. Reggie needs more touches somehow. He is by far our most explosive threat.
My point is there is no need panic. Remember, we are 9-0 with a four game lead over Alanta. We only need to go 3 – 3 – 1 to win our division (3 – 4, if it is the right 3 – 4). We have Tampa (twice), New England, Washington, Dallas, Atlanta and Carolina. I see us going no worse than 5 – 2. That would gives us a 14 – 2 record and probably home field advantage (I expect the Vikes to loss at least one more).
Really what’s to fix, maybe some fine tuning, but a fix? I don’t think it’s called for.

From my perspective, we look 9-0

and this is the NFL which means there are no “automatics” – you have ti earn every win. So, I say don’t change anything. 9-0 means nothing is broke, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

I would

1. If colston is sick or hurt i would sit him till he’s better we will need him.Not playing 100% is a good way to get hurt

2.I would probably start getting reggie the ball a little more to see if he can finally step up and be the player we all want him to be.

3.I would suggest getting jenkins more playing time

4.I would spend a considerable amount of time on tackleing practice and getting back to the basic’s

specificicaly.......

let a few players who have really stepped up lately into the game.

bring in mech more often, colston has been quite off lately and meach has been on fire.

let Reggie handle more traditional running back hand offs. he has really been putting on a show lately, and giving him more traditional touches will help us balance out loosing out hammer of a FB in our run game. need to keep all of our backs in the rotation. 8 touches and 93 yrds is a sure fire sign that he is a man on a mission.

To Payton, I would ask him to think back to September, when he seemed to suddenly know how to own a lead in the fourth quarter, and how to go with the “hot hand”. Your running backs are productive on first and second down, and still a hell of a lot fresher than the defense, don’t pass on third, ESPECIALLY when your quarterback is not having a “pro bowl” kind of month, to put it mildly. Even if you don’t convert a third down, keeping the clock running helps. However you can do that, do it. In Atlanta, he could have kneeled out all but a few seconds of the game. In St. Louis, he could have at least left the Rams with no timeouts and less than two minutes on the clock to drive the field. And taking Reggie out, after the first half he had, makes absolutely NO sense. At the very least, his highly touted “decoy” skills probably would have been really handy on play action in revitalizing your inexplicably reeling passing game. Also, every now and again, just run the jailbreak screen to Reggie, instead of always faking it. Once or twice, it’s clever. Every game, it’s stupid. In a game when Reggie is the only skill player performing consistently, it’s criminal.

I have very few requests of Gregg. Adjust to the run more quickly, I guess. But his second-half adjustments are miraculous. In every one of these past few stinkers, the Saints get gouged by elite running backs in the first half, then all but shut them down in the second. And the only time our pass defense has looked like a traditional Saints pass D was when 75% of the starters were sidelined. I have no problem with that from him. Also, I would ask that he and Loomis handle next year’s draft. I’m not sure why, but I trust him more than I do Payton, even with offensive acquisitions.

For Offense, I’d just say get your heads out of your collective asses. The only starter that side is missing is Brown, and that has not been the problem. Brees looks downright ugly for about 50 to 75% of every game now. Fix it, dude. We all know you’re better than this. Don’t be Delhomme or Cutler. Brees also needs to spend a gay-ish bonding weekend with Shockey and Colston alone out in the woods or something. I don’t know what happened to the three of them, but that’s supposed to be the core of our passing game, and the only reasonable excuse I’ve heard is bouts with the flu. Ask Pierre how to play through that. And specifically to Shockey, when the founder of Wendys is outperforming you on the field, it’s gut-check time, friend. Payton needs to return to the simplicity of his game planning and playcalling we all enjoyed at the start of this season. Before this year, I would have said I don’t know if he can call a game like a regular-ass NFL coach. Now that I know he can, it REALLY pisses me off when clock management, formation penalties, and goofy trick plays(like calling a FB gut run on third and short when ANY of your THREE RB’s have proven capable of gaining three yards and your FB was picked up off the street three weeks ago) are a drive-stifling problem. And, for God’s sake, LET SOME RUNNING BACK STAY IN FOR MORE THAN TWO CONSECUTIVE PLAYS. I don’t even care which one. On this Sunday, it clearly should have been Bush, but I would have been fine with any of them. The important thing is, all those healthy legs really don’t mean much if you don’t let anyone get into a rhythm. It also begs a ton of procedural penalties when you have that much personnel swapping all the time. And do you remember when your offense was effective with no-huddle? It’s not like you’ve improved this month on clock-management, so don’t worry about that.

Defensively, I’d just say, get healthy, stay a few more years Gregg, and get yourself some upgrades at OLB in the years to come. And spend next offseason realizing how many great running offenses you have to face in a given season in the NFC South. But GW’s halftime adjustments more than make up for the terrible first halves we’ve had against great rushers recently. When we’ve played divisions Williams is familiar with(NFC and AFC East), our defense has looked like they knew exactly what was going on, from start to finish. Just stick around a while, and get to know the NFC South. And get some guys that you want from drafts and free agency for another year. All our acquisitions this year have been brilliant. Well, not the draft, they’re all hurt, but FA has been good to us with Payton, Williams, and Loomis working together. And they’ve absorbed injuries about as well as can be expected, I think. And if Gay is gonna start for a while, keep the Free Safety on his side ALL THE TIME. That’s where the ball is going, I imagine.

I don’t think any of this could be considered for some kind of poll or whatever. I just wanted to vent, and this seemed like a good enough place.

I agree with the polling now, However

I initially was hoping for a brief answer. Those answers could have been tabulated into a polling, however, I do believe how this turned out is much better.

what I would tell the coaches

1. Fire Carney, you do not keep a kicker you cannot trust 2.Be more aggressive on offence, put teams away.. 3.Stop the run in the first half, damm waiting for 2nd half to adjust your Defence

carney?

Fire Carney are you crazy.
He only messed up on maybe two field goals all season

1. missed FG was cause the ball was not held correctly
2. Missed Fg was cause it was blocked That is a special team blocking issue

I'm sorry, I only do multiple choice.
