Everyone Seems Overly Concerned
Last time I checked, an ugly win gets a W in the W-L columns, and a pretty win gets the same thing. The Saints are fine. Every good team goes through this and the strong ones prevail as we did. The weaker teams, especially at home, play their best games to stay competitive. They have to!! The Rams had 2 solid weeks off with loads of game tape and a lot of motivation. I think they are relatively healthy now. They have, agruably, the best or second best RB in the league. And, the absolutely biggest factor in this game and our last couple of games is our defensive injuries. Clancy, Greer, Sharper, Ellis. Four starters that are very important. Add in that Fujita played his first game in 3 games and was probably rusty and not used to playing with some new faces, and it is small wonder our defense didn't have its best day. They worked Jenkins in there also and he is a work in progress (showing great potential) But the defense with all of this going on played good enough to win.
I also think GW played pretty "vanilla - style defense" and I think that's because 1) he held back from some risky blitzes etc because of personnel (INJURY) issues and 2) he is holding back for The Patriots game. That's just my take on it. I would have liked a bigger margin of victory, but I am happy- everyone is gunning for US every week. Blowouts won't be easy- we'll have to settle for W's. W's are good, very good.

The problem
wasn’t with the defense. Okay, the defense was a problem, too, giving up way too many yards and points to a bad team. But the offense time and again blew chances to score. Not only because of turnovers, but also due to our old nemesis: short yardage failures. At the very least, they should have scored another TD in the fourth, and then we wouldn’t have been sweating at the end.
It seems as though the Saints feel no sense of urgency regarding ball security, because the same dumb mistakes keep happening. Against a better-than-terrible team, with our defense crippled, those turnovers will kill us. Even Tampa Bay makes me nervous now.
Maybe it’s just age. Or black pants.

Do y'all hear yourselves
Still complaining and doubting the 9-0 Saints. What’s the record need to be for y’all to be happy?
This is OUR year!! Yea, I said it. Who Dat!!!
Everybody's really happy about the record
We’ve already improved on last year’s record, with seven weeks to go. This is the number of wins I predicted for the year at the onset. But have you watched these games lately? It’s one thing to be excited or happy about a win like yesterday’s. It’s another, much stupider thing to be proud of it. In my humble opinion, of course.

I don't think anyboby is proud about how we won, but we did win.
I agree we haven’t looked solid the last three weeks on all phases of the game, but I don’t understand all the heartburn. I have read the quotes from the team players. They all realize they need to tighten up and play better. There is nothing as fans we can do. You would have think the Saints lost yesterday. I thought the play calling at the end was bad, but that was the only instance when I started to get worried. The one thing the Saints did was not to spot the Rams with easy points in the beginning of the game.
Win an ugly Super Bowl and I’ll be the elated, carefree pixie my father always wanted. As long as there are games that could possibly prevent that from happening inbetween, I’m going to p*ss, moan, curse, pace, fidget, bite my nails and continue to sweat the small, medium and large stuff every Sunday. Consider it my way of keeping holy the Sabbath.
"I was not on the boat in question." -Darren Sharper
I agree with everything coldpizza said
(although, I must admit, I am somewhat purplexed about the “elated, carefree pixie” part.?.?.?)
I don’t give, and never have given, a rat’s ass about a perfect season. All that did to the Patriots was magnify their Superbowl loss a thousand fold! My God, that must have absolutely ripped their hearts out and melted their souls!!!
Now, if a team learns by its mistakes, the Saints should almost be ready to get their Mensa tickets punched! We hear it at every post-game press conference, “There are things we have to work on and improve.” No shit, Sherlock! We (not the Fans, the Team) have no control over injuries but do have control over every freakin’ thing else.
Hell yes we were spoiled by the first four games of the season. Now we have to live with the reality that the Saints are still playing professional football players every week. Nothing is a given and everything has to be taken.
Am I “overly concerned,” as the title of this post suggests? You’re damn right I am. I’m a Saints Fan! I worry about the water pressure in the locker room shower!!!!!!!!!

It's just the pants
I am not talking about wins, losses or ties…. just those stupid looking pants….I said it all above and it’s nice not to have anything bigger to worry about than the uniforms huh?

Offense..
Seems like the offense, well the passing offense isn’t as explosive as it was at first. I see that we are still making plays here and there but there seems to be no consistancy. Maybe we just got spoiled at the start of the season.
Defense is not really a concern to me because we had alot of people filling in, and they still managed to get the job done. I think our offense needs to start helping out the D.
Big and Easy is RIGHT
Geez guys what else do these guys have to do???

Never been a team in the NFL yet
that didn’t have good games and bad games. The good TEAMS just WIN more of them.

We've been conditioned to expect failure
I love that we’re 9-0, but years of Saints disappointment make it difficult for me to embrace this perfect record at this time. I’m focused on winning as many games as possible, locking in homefield advantage, and then winning the Super Bowl. We’re clearly on our way to doing that, but ever since the Miami game, the team seems to be regressing week by week and those darn Vikings keep refusing to lose.
I’m not too concerned after the game yesterday because I recognize that the Rams took advantage of their bye week and the one game win momentum before it to improve their team and play at a much higher level than before their bye. Plus, our best WR had been battling the flu all week and I’m convinced that was the reason for his poor play in both this game and the week before. It takes at least a week to get over the flu and I’m confident Colston will be back to his sure-handed self in Tampa.
I think I speak (type) for all other concerned Saints fans when I say we’ve been conditioned to expect the wheels to fall off at some point during any season, no matter how promising it looks. This is by far the best Saints team we’ve ever had, but their sloppy first-half play over the past four games is worrisome. It’s not all them as teams recently have recognized them as a top-tier NFL powerhouse and have been bringing their A-game whereas we were kinda still under the radar during the first five weeks.
We can only hope we get some key players back to full health soon and they correct the mistakes that made us all hold our breath in terror yesterday. If we lose Porter for the season, I have faith that GW will find a way to fill the void and improve the play of whoever steps in for him.

Don Banks sums it up nicely:
• It was so predictable, and you can see it happening. Everybody the undefeated Saints play these days is giving New Orleans its best shot. The Rams came just a play away from upsetting the Saints at home on Sunday, losing 28-23 when quarterback Marc Bulger threw incomplete into the end zone on the final play.
Saints fans are probably getting nervous, but keep in mind that New Orleans was playing without three starters in its secondary for some of the game. Free safety Darren Sharper sat out with a knee injury, cornerback Jabari Greer missed the game with a groin problem and cornerback Tracy Porter, as we noted earlier, left with a knee injury in the third quarter.
It’s the nature of the beast, though. From here on out, everybody’s playing their Super Bowl against New Orleans.

I'm with you, Philinwood
Who DAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It really is a shame that the Saints ONLY SCORED THE OTHER BEST TEAMS’ AVERAGE OF 28 POINTS!!!!! HOW DARE THEY??!?!???!
WHO DAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not to be denied...
You know, the Saints have been overcoming all of those things that would have crushed them in the past. Like starting from behind. This team is doing it all and doing it right. I hope like crazy that they win every single game right through the SuperBowl but, as optimistic as I am, I realize that that is a stretch and a half. So, my biggest worry is that they crumble or stumble terribly, as we have all seen so many teams do this season, from a single loss. I don’t think it will happen. These guys have a mental toughness, a drive that is almost maniacal to win it all which is soooo different from the past. Thank god for Sean, Drew and Greg!!! THIS AIN’T YOUR DADDY’S SAINTS!!!! These guys are for real and I think we are looking at a significant potential for a dyansty for, at least, the next decade.
There was another comment that I’m totally in sync with. That, it seems, that all teams get a little stupid this time of year. It isn’t stupidity, of course. It’s a grind like you and I have probably never seen. These guys have stature galore which, along with a lot of health, is what it takes to make it through.
Speaking of health, did y’all know that Walter Payton was never injured? Did you also know that he practiced year round, running flights of steps, etc? I actually think they should all do Tai Chi, but that’s a very long, involved story.
WHO DAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A win is always win unless it's a loss. Then I think it is a loss
I don’t think anyone’s complaining about the W. It’s the way we got the W. This game shouldn’t have been this close. Good teams blowout teams that they’re suppose to. The Colts, who are also undefeated, beat the Rams somewhere around the score of 44-7. That’s what ours should’ve been. It was sloppy and if they would’ve made the last play, everyone would be pissed off and moaning and groaning about the sloppy play. A win doesn’t change that really, just makes it a bit more bearable imo.
Superbowl bound!!!...I know! do you?! Go Saints!!
The Colts and the Rams are two different teams now.
Look at last night game, the Patriots are man handling the Colts secondary all night. Peyton throws a couple of interceptions. Looks like the Patriots will win the game with 6 minutes left. Then all of a sudden the Patriots defense acts like they never played before allow 14 points in that time frame. We didn’t look good. We had some key injuries. Sure we didn’t blow them out of the water. Its the NFL. Things happen. We will move on and play better. The Saints are a better team. The players and coach realize they need to improve. I don’t know what else you want. We can always petition the NFL to give the win to the Rams, because they played better. Maybe the Rams played better than expected or we played down to their level.
We would have been moaning and groaning if we would have lost to the Rams, but I’m hoping the team would have realize the season is not defined by this one lost. This is the big difference between years past teams and this year team. We have a good team. Do we need to fix the mistakes? Yes Do we have the team and coaches to fix the mistakes? Yes.
yes yes i saw
the miracle at lucas oil stadium. Almost went to the game since I live in Indiana. They had a very banged up secondary. They won’t go too far in the playoffs with the secondary they have now which is missing their 2 starting CBs(replaced by 2 rookies) and Bob Sanders. The Colts were a good team when they played the rams that game. Brady was going to light up their secondary just like they would’ve lit up our secondary(if we had played them) when we were missing 3 ppl. The players and coaches all know we have alot to work on. They also know how to fix them. We won’t be defined by one loss, even against the Rams. I’ll agree with you on all of that. What concerns me isn’t just this week, it’s the past 4 now, starting in the Miami game. Constantly playing woeful football and pulling the game out of our butts towards the end. The Colts do it too but they don’t do it against teams like the Rams. What i’m trying to say is that just because we got the W doesn’t mean we should be overly happy about it. I’m usually a very very optimistic Saints fan talking about SBs we’re going to win each year but the past few games have been bad, sloppy play. We can fix that but we’re not. I think our biggest problem right now is that we are opening up the game flat on both offense and defense. In our games before Miami, we came out pumped up and playing hard. Not so much the past couple games. We need to see the improvement, not just talk about our capabilities to fix them.

Don't overlook the TOP factor
A lot of people are complaining that our offense didn’t blow out the Rams defense. But our defense was on the field for the majority of the game. Our offense turned it over 3 times to end drives, and still scored 3 tds. The fact that we had a jury-rigged defensive line-up definitely affected our offensive side of the game, but the turnovers hurt just as bad. If we fix the turnovers, I believe all will be well again.
"Never interrupt your enemy when he's making a mistake." -- Napoleon Bonaparte
It is amazing to me (and understandable)
that nobody had broached the forbidden subject of scrutinizing Drew. I realize this is like farting in church but the fact is – interceptions are hurting us and hurting us badly. I do expect this trend to end, probably this week, but it has been a part of my being “overly concerned.”
IF we lose a game or two in the upcoming weeks, which teams beating us would hurt us the least? (That’s an open question. Comments please?)

The Pats
AFC team, only playoff interaction would be the Super Bowl, plus they’re good, so it wouldn’t be "embarrassing. Next would be Dallas and Washington.

Good answer.
I was thinking along those lines, although, I’m pretty confident against the Skins. Thanks.

I've talked about
the terrible play of Brees the past 2 or 3 weeks but not on this post. Maybe that’s what you were referring to :D The ones for me would be Tampa and possibly Carolina. I know, I know. Division games. We have a solid lead in the division. Tampa isn’t going to be in the playoff hunt. Carolina probably won’t be either by the time we play them again(at least that’s what I’m thinking). After that, it’d be ATL if they’re not in the division race/playoff race or Washington. I’d rather beat the Patriots and Cowboys because they are possible playoff contenders. Knocking the Pats out of playoff contention with a win and Miami winning the rest of their games to give them the division would be great for us, imo. Don’t want to play the Pats in the SB. Dallas…depends on which Dallas team shows up. I know they’ve choked alot in the playoffs recently but I don’t really want to play them if their regular season form shows up.

to wish for a Superbowl game against the Browns. Damn!
Oh, well. The Bucs are next. One game at a time. Keep your eye on the prize. It ain’t over till the fat lady sings. No time like the present. (Should I go on or are you ready to puke now?)
