Tracy Porter Knee Injury Not as Serious as First Expected; Will Return in 4-6 Weeks

For those of us, including myself, who were seriously worried about the severity of Tracy Porter's injury - it looked like he was crying as he got carted off the field - can breath a deep sigh of relief.

Jeff Duncan just broke the news about the results of Tracy Porter's MRI today via Twitter...

The MRI revealed Tracy Porter's injury to be an MCL sprain. He's expected to miss 4-6 weeks.

Hallelujah!!! The season is saved! The Saints can get by without Porter for a few weeks, especially if Greer is ready to come back soon from his groin injury, but the thought of not having him for crunch time and the playoffs was really making me worry.

In other news, Jason David is still unemployed.

hope he takes over

the number 3 spot at least and i’d love for a nicks situation but keep him in the nickel this season and let him get the exp.

I second that Hallelujah!!!

This is outstanding news that does make me feel better about yesterday. Whew! I’m glad he’ll be around for the playoffs.

Wonderful news!

Now sit all of these guys for as long as it takes. Let the 2008 Saints play some miserable squeakers against the cellar of the NFL, and maybe even force a few shootouts with some good teams, then let them finish the season and come back strong in the playoffs. If we can have a fully recuperated defense in late December, let’s wait until then to put them back out. The almost completely healthy “high powered” offense could use a little pressure to put the games on their shoulders, anyway.

Great news!

…well, good news. He’s still out for 4-6 weeks.

But, I think with more practice time, our backups will step up and surprise people.

Come on #27!!!

In other news, {someone who should not be mentioned} is still unemployed. LET’S KEEP IT THAT WAY!!!

Awsome news

This is perfect it gets Jenkins more reps and experiance during a easy part of our schedual and gets us our probowl corner back for crunch time and the playoffs o yea iwrote this in anthother bolg but if you havent yet

First you should help any Saints fan in need especially one so easy to do.
Second the more stations that broadcast Saints the more sponser money goes there way witch helps the team and the city and the state.
Thrid “money isn’t everything, but its right up there with breathing”more
stations that show our Saints more people that see them brings more national tv witch in turn brings us awsome players and coaches and showcases.
fourth its against the Dallas cowhoes a hated team that we face soon whos fans are pompous asses as are there players coaches and owners (sean payton excluded)that are talking smack on us as we speak “LOOK AT HOW MANY PEOPLE WATCH DALLAS AND THEN WATCH THE AINT’S..YOU GUY’S WORE SACKS OVER YOUR HEAD FOR YEARS NOW YOU MIGHT ACCIDENTLY GET TO THE PLAY OFF AND YOU MIGHT GET TO TAKE OFF YOUR SACKS..BE CAREFUL….”you crawdad chomping Lousyanna fruit the viewing audience extends way beyond Shreveport. I guess thats hard for you to understand. The signal doesnt stop at the state line. Very soon you will be yesterdays news along with your season. you were really tough on a 1and 7 team."

that should be reason enough for all of us to go there and post this link on every Saints site you can http://www.kmsstv.com/which-game-should-we-air-nov-22?

Get better quick Tracy

I don’t know if I can take the poor corner play by Randall Gay. Holy Crap this guy needs to put on his big boy pants and go play. He played a little scared Sunday. But that is great news.

tyson?

seriously, though, this is pretty phenomenally good news. randall gay and leigh torrence looked baaaaad against the rams.

also if porter had gone out for the season AGAIN it would’ve really hurt a promising young corner’s NFL career and would’ve justifiably earned him the reputation of being “injury-prone.” having him back for the playoffs is awesome.

Keep him for the playoffs, baby

‘Cause we’ll be there and we need #22 shutting people down.

It really is surprising

how well he is doing in only his second year. The same could be said for Greer but focusing on Porter, he has just surprised me ever since he was drafted. He does so well to keep plays in front of him, does not let guys get behind him, and can make a play on the ball. He has great speed and knows how to tackle. How did we get this guy for only a second round pick?

by theaxeeffect4721 on Nov 16, 2009 2:59 PM CST up reply actions

A little unknown fact about Porter.......

He didn’t start playing football until his senior year of high school. Pretty impressive.

by Strictnine on Nov 16, 2009 2:09 PM CST reply actions

Too bad Gorrer got snatched off the practice squad. We could really use the fresh legs in the meantime. They’ll probably wind up signing someone else, just to help out in the dime and on special teams coverage. I doubt Casillas has been active all nine games, so he could probably be waived and signed to the practice squad, in order to make room. Not like one less scarcely used LB is going to throw a giant monkey wrench into our mediocre-at-best outside run support.

How about this?

Move Usama back to CB and let Jenkins play FS?

Usama has more experience and Jenkins can rely more on athleticism than technique at FS.

by cptbags on Nov 16, 2009 3:34 PM CST reply actions

Young

was pretty good at FS. I trust Jenkins more than I do Usama at CB.

Huge relief

Your right on there. I would like to see what torrence can do before we bring usama back to cb. He seems to be a great fit back there at safety. I was beginning to worry a lot today bout porter. Thank goodness he’s goin to be back.

I will say though that Porter like goodwin two weeks ago, needs to be aware of there surroundings a little more. Just cause the whistle blows doesn’t mean bodies aren’t going to be rolling around after the play. He was very straight legged at the end of the play. Not in an athletic position. Superbowl or Bust! Who Dat!

you cant put that on porter

he blew the tackle by a mile and turns around to give chase and runs smack into usama laying on the ground after blowing the tackle by a mile

agreed

most ppl don’t know him except for the occasional falcons, panthers, or bucs fan. Also Saints fan know him :D. He has been great this year and last year he was really good. He does have a tendency to give up first down pass plays it seems though.

agreeeeeeed

as much as i dislike him, Scott Shanle is one of the more underrated guys on this team, alongside Roman Harper and guys like Carl Nicks and Jahri Evans, but offensive lineman never get recognition in this league

Good News for Porter

and us fans, he was on the cart and hangin’ his head. I said yest. that the best news would be similiar to Goodwins’ hyper-ex, but what makes me MAD is that Rich Eisen, sits there Sun nite saying he’s DONE for the yr. ,who gave him that info! the Saints didn’t release anything other than and MRI was scheduled on Mon. whata jerk, he needs to go over to that BS network called Fox News!!!

You think you know, and you don't know, and you never, ever will.-Jim Mora Sr.

As soon as he went down...

I grabbed my protection gris-gris. Its some powerful stuff! As long as he is back for the playoffs I’ll be a happy camper. All we need is a win against the Bucs and the Falcons to drop one to the Giants and the division is virtually clinched at the end of the week. The only teams with a statistical shot of catching us in the NFC are the Vikes and Cowboys, so we are looking very good for the 1st round bye, if not home field advantage throughout.

The rest of the season is all about getting the team healthy and ready for a run at the Super Bowl. Get well soon Tracy, Darren, Jabari, Lance, Jonathan, Sedrick, and all the other guys that could use some time to recuperate.
