Am I the only one that wants to see the Saints lose a game?

Do we really want the Saints heading into the postseason with the pressure of an undefeated season on their shoulders.  Seems like an un necessary distraction.  As long as they clinch home field then I'm cool.. History has shown that these teams that go 9-0, 10-0, 12-0, ...whatever, dont really deep into the playoffs.  I don't care who they lose to but I want them to lose a game or two.  I do wanna see them destroy the Pats though.

I said this

in one of the open game threads. I kinda wish they had lost to Miami, an AFC team, and got this whole “undefeated season” monkey off their back. I know they SAY they only look to the next game, but all the hype from the fans about going undefeated has to be weighing on them and the thought of going undefeated has to be on their minds. Would I like to see em go undefeated? Hell yeah! But part of me does kinda wish they would blow one just to get that pressure off the team and let them concentrate on the next opponent without the distraction.

like the bears lost to Miami on MNF in 1985 and then went on to smash the Pats in SB XX in our very own NOLA?

Yeah I don’t wanna see them lose to any divisional opponents or the Pats which really leaves either the redskins or cowboys. I really dont’ wanna see them lose to any one of those teams either though. Maybe your right BayouRebel, miami prbably would have stung the least if they would have lost that game. I dunno, I just want them focused on the playoffs with no other distractions.

One Game at a time and one play at a time

If and when it happens, it might not work in our favor. Just keep winning and the rest will take care of itself. Says Confucius………………………… He is a Saint fan too !!!

I think game 15 vs Tampa

we beat them Sunday in Tampa and clinch home field advantage week 14 and then rest many starters that week (game 15) and get the loss out of the way, Then, starters play first half vs Carolina last game of the season, and we hang on for victory in the second half and then rest 2 weeks before the first playoff game. That’ll do it in my opinion.

I heard an interesting stat about undefeated teams on ESPN

In 8 of the last 12 seasons, the last undefeated team went to the Superbowl. They didn’t mention how many of those won, though.

F---That Loosing is for Loosers

I do not want the Saints to loose any games, they lost enough over the years to last a life time, and I was a fan through all of them, Remember winning becomes a habit and I want the SAINTS TO BE ADDICTED…..

good logic

Ya can’t argue with that….just let me be partying in the French Quarter for the Super Bowl with the Saints up by 21pts….in the fourth quarter, with their QB on the bench nursing a hangover!

Monkey schmunkey.

There is no ‘monkey’.
There is no ‘pressure’.
There is no distraction.

There is only the next game.
There is only victory or defeat.

All else is perception.

The only thing worse than losing is not winning.

well said

do the players care if they’ve lost are 8-8 or 16-0. Yes and no. I went to the last Saints game of the season last year. We weren’t in playoff contention. We could’ve thrown the game and gotten a better draft spot possibly. We didn’t. Doesn’t matter what the game is, they’re playing to win. There’s always the pressure and distraction of losing any game. To think it only comes with being undefeated is not a well thought out argument. Keep winning.

Superbowl bound!!!...I know! do you?! Go Saints!!

You Play to win the Game!

now depending on,were Carolina and Atlanta are at wk. 17 and they’re battling for a wild card, and we’re still undefeated, will Payton pull Brees and others (or not start) in the 2nd half of the Carolina game, lead or not, undef. season or not? will he trust Brunell to achieve 16-0 or would it really matter ?, hopefully, Home field through-out will be wrapped up before then..Will the Vikes lose any more games? We’re all thinking this? Who-Dat,We Dat….

Brees and those others

Don;t want to come out of the game. They are winners. What makes them winners is they want the ball all the time.

16-0 or 19-0?

Let’s just get to 10-0. We may have to go undefeated just to clinch home field in the NFC. Honestly, the longer the streak lasts the less people think we can keep it up, so i’m finding it to be less of a distraction each week. I think It helps when we win ugly because everybody thinks that sooner or later we wont overcome our mistakes or that some so called “good” team will make us pay…blah…blah…blah. Truth is all that is just talk. Until we lose 9-0 speaks for itself, just like 10-0, 16-0 and 19-0 will. And just to add some validation to our undeafeated, Superbowl winning season i hope we thump the Cowboys 33-9 and then B@#$H-slap the Vikings 38-20 then CRUSH the steelers 41-3. The only things that could make it better is beating the 49ers and Packers.

Going undefeated....

Well I agree to a degree….late in the season the media hype surrounding this type of thing can be a distraction. I care, as you, first that my lifelong team the New Orleans Football Saints might have a chance to go to and win the Super Bowl! Undefeated would be nice but not at the cost of the big game. It could hurt so there is where I agree. But how would you tell a team to avoid that, by intentionally losing a game, of course not, do we want them to lay off, maybe not start starters, well maybe when it comes to a meaningless game. It’s a hard call but a great problem to be discussing about the SAINTS!

There is only ONE situation where it is even remotely acceptable:

After the Vikings lose #2. And even then, they need to make someone take it away by sheer force of will.

The Saints are now playing for home field advantage, and they need to keep up the pressure on EVERY OTHER NFC TEAM. There is no pressure on them – they are applying it, not receiving it. All this other talk is smoke and mirrors by those trying to distract and deceive the team, sew doubt. Ignore it, just as the players do – focus on being 10-0…nothing else matters this week.

…y’know when you worry about 19-0? About 10:30-11:00 pm February 7th, 2010, THAT’S when.

Irony: An atheist Saints fan.

From this point foward

Saints just have to be one play better than their opponent, that one play being a TD, FG, or 1st down, so they can kneel down. Win ugly, win however, only we can beat ourselves.

Playoffs

I think once you get to the playoffs, the Saints players are disciplined enough to hit the reset button and know that everything that happened in the regular season doesn’t matter any more and play full throttle whether or not a perfect season is on the line or not. That being said, I think that no matter how hard you try, going into the playoffs undefeated has to add a little pressure, but it’s pressure to win and perform well since you have an added goal in addition to getting to and winning the Super Bowl. If home field is sewn up by the last couple weeks, I think you have to rest your starters, undefeated or not. Losing any of our major contributors means a less likely chance to win when the games really matter. If making sure that Brees (or anyone else for that matter) stays healthy for the playoffs means a less likely chance of going undefeated, so be it.

LOSE?

After I’m dead and gone I hope. LOL Can I take it if they lose one? Sure. But DAMN! wishing for it? I think not.

The only game I would WANT to see the Saints lose is the Pro Bowl

After a Superbowl victory, I think I could actually handle it. “The horror!”

this would be an interesting poll question

Do you believe the Saints have a better shot at the Super Bowl if they are undefeated in the regular season? Or if they lose one or more games but still have home field advantage through the playoffs?

 Guess that is 2 questions.

Being a Saints fan will take years off your life
