Feel the Brees but not........

Brunell!! Is it me or do i think we need to invest in a legit back up for Brees. Brunell is 139 yrs old and has  horrible knees. He cant move in a pocket like Bill Gates' wallet. I really don't trust him, If Brees was to go down (Hope to God he doesn't) we would pretty much be screwed. Especially when our offense relies on Brees and his ability to find receivers.  Like todays game would have been a good opportunity to get a legit back up some nice reps, even throwing the ball. Come playoffs, i don't want my entire team and city leaning on one man so much, because you never know in this league. Its a a business, and Brunell doesn't make any business sense to be on this squad. Is he acting as a mentor, to a proven veteran Brees... NO!. So we should try to get Chase Daniel, the rook from Mizzu in some games. Get him off the practice squad and get him some PT. His holding duties can be done by either punter also. Lets ship Brunell out of here, every time I see him on the sidelines, nightmares of him actually playing in a meaningful game scare me...

Side Note: Bush was out this week to rest that knee for the big game next monday against the Pats, and thats why he was out the 2nd half against the Lams, to clear up those conspiracy rumors.

makes sense to me

Do you think it had something to do with just re-signing him this week?

I don't see anything wrong with Brunell

he played well in pre season and I always thpught when he was surrounded by a decent cast hew was a good QB.
Not sure where you get ypur info from when he hasn’t even played.

Yep

he is old but, he is a very suitable back-up. If you think he"s not then imagine how scared you would feel if Joey Harrington was the one you saw on the side line.

I'd be ok with Brunell moreso than Daniels

He’s a veteran QB who can manage the game and have a good shot at winning it if we needed him to step up especially with our WRs. If you want to get rid of him because he’s old, you’re crazy. Brett Favre is 40 years old. He also has 22 TDs to 3 Ints and a passer rating around 110 after the game he played today. If they can play and win games, then they can play and win games. Maybe we should get rid of Sharper too since he’s old? Just trying to point out that age is a horrible deciding factor on whether he’s a capable backup this season. Do I want him to be our backup next year or the year after that? Maybe. Depends on how Daniels looks in camp. I do agree about keeping Daniels on the active squad for games that should be blowouts like these. That way he and Brunell can go in and get some reps. Brunell because he’s our backup and he could probably use the reps and then Daniels to see what he’s got for a possible future here. Also, Brees doesn’t exactly run around the pocket. He just needs to be able to step up or sideways every now and then(like Brees and Brady do) get rid of the ball. I agree that we should get a better, younger #2 QB next year that we can have Brees mentor.

Superbowl bound!!!...I know! do you?! Go Saints!!

yeah, but...

they didn’t need a clutch back-up quaterback that we could rely on yesterday. We had a brees-y sunday that I could have finished (not really!). Seems like a good time to test the next leader of the dynasty in, what? six to ten years from now? Something that would be really interesting is if you have two full-up solid quarterbacks you could rely on every season. That seems like it would be fits for the oppositions defense. Are they just testing out now, in case? Wow! I could spin myself around a post trying to figure out coulda shoulda wooda…

You should ease up on the caffeine

There are no clutch back ups, most teams cant even find a starter. We at least have a former pro bowler in Brunell. I cant see what more you would want in a back up. We cant really groom for the future as we hope we have Brees for 5 or 6 years more at least. So lets say Chase Daniels is a future starter he will be off our team before Brees is ready to give up the spot so he will be someone elses starter…ala Delhome and Bulger..both ex pro bowlers (sure not prime now.. but they were). The nice thing about our offense is all we need is a game manager right now…we have a great running attack and receivers who can catch the ball. So I like having the Old Man on out roster, and I bet Brees goes to him for advise and feedback just because its an experienced man who has been there

Can we possibly trade both Brunell and Daniel for Josh Freeman? Despite his poor passer rating yesterday, I sure liked a lot of what I saw out of that kid. Assuming Carolina selects their new franchise QB in the upcoming draft, the NFC South could be stacked from top to bottom with great ones in the upcoming years.

I dont think a

Quality QB is going to come to the Saints knowing he hasn’t got a chance of starting

i like daniels

i hope he sticks around and learns from brees. they are both small QBs but chase has some legs. he could add another threat to an already potent offense.

The reason we have

a good running attack is because of Brees. LB and DB are more worried about Brees so our running attacks looks better. This is a classic case of the Pass setting up the Run. Now with Brunell back there do you think anyone will be afraid of him. You will see our running game slowed down, and our passing game go down as well. Brunell was washed up in Washington and that was like 5 years ago. He doesn’t have the arm strength nor does he have the accuracy. Brees actually does have quick feet, his very subtle yet quick movements in the pocket make him great. He finds recievers quickly, Brunell can not handle that kind of responsiblity. Its not his age, its his ability, Favre is definitley playing beyond his years, he was perhaps one of the greatest so in his twilight he will still be above average. Brunell on the other hand barely made the all-star game 3 years, Brees was the offensive player of the year last year. I would trust Harrington more than Brunell, I lived in DC and watched him there, he was horrible. Daniels should be the back up for he will bring some new energy for the offense and the Defenses won’t know what to expect, but instead we have a tired old dog whose tricks have been exposed asked to lead an offensive juggernaut known as our OFFENSE.

VILMA and SHARPER have made my life complete.. their contributions are endless, the changed the culture of our defense, I actually enjoy watching our defense rather than our offense play sometimes. Their age is no question.

He's that bad?

I assume you think we should trade Reggie Bush for Chris Simms? Maybe Kerry Collins? Seriously, outside of the Eagles, have you seen what backup quarterbacks have done this season for other teams? Your success rides on your starter, because he’s getting the reps every week.
Honestly, I like Brunell and think he could start on about 5 to 10 NFL teams. He’s not Drew Brees, but there aren’t too many of him in the league anyway. I’m glad we have him, and I don’t think you’ll find a better backup on any other team.
I don’t think Chase Daniel is the answer, but he’s a decent prospect and definitely worth stashing. If his pro career is half as prolific as his college one, he’ll be good.
