The Falcoholic Requests A Scouting Report

So uh, hey. Remember me? I'm a Falcons fan. Don't all shudder at once, now.

Obviously we're clinging to our playoff hopes by a thread and I certainly don't want the &@#$ing Tampa Bay Bucs standing in the way of that. I was hoping y'all could give me a sense of what kind of game the Bucs played, how best to stop them (since you did) and how best to score gobs of points on them (since you did). I'd be much obliged if you could share those golden nuggets of wisdom.

Thanks!

I would really like to help

But it seems the bucs left after their first possension and never came back lol

In all seriousness they cant stop the run
Rhonda Barber is their only db worth a shit and yes he can still lay a hit on a person
I see Matty Ice having a field day

Their young QB gets rattled easy with pressure and loses has acuracy issues

I dont think the falcons are going to have a problem with running or passing

And your DE’s should be able to have a field day against their OL

Pressure the Rookie QB

Dave,

Dont worry we shudder. Josh Freeman looked to be second guessing himself alot. Our defense seemed to confuse him with different looks. And Tampa is weak at defending the passing game over the middle. You guys should be fine against tampa, just keep Freeman out of rythm.

by JAM13 on Nov 23, 2009 1:18 PM CST reply actions

Assuming your D is up to the pressure of putting pressure on Freeman, then you should be OK. But he wasn’t compared to Big Ben by the commentators for nothing. His passing skills aren’t awesome, but not horrible. He’s a tall, strong feller. And he scrambles very well. If your DBs hold up in coverage when he tries to scramble and/or your rushers stay VERY disciplined and keep him in the pocket, you’ll probably do OK. Let him out of the pocket to extend plays and you’ll see a Ben clone look just like the below-average QB both are yet still manage to tear you a new one.

put it on freeman to win the game

1. closing out the run game and making freeman feel the pressure to win is a must
any team with a solid ground game has a much better chance of making things happen offensively
2. be awesome (reference: barney stinson)

sorry that’s all i have right now

Hehe...I'm hating the Falcons less because of you Dave...

Carolina, with Delhomme and the gangsta-balla S. Smith, are P.E. #1 in my book.

I think one answer to your question is to punch them in the mouth, so to speak That game was very interesting in that it opened up with Tampa driving 94 yards for a TD. We responded on the next possession by jamming it down their throats for a touchdown ourselves, and then scored 37 unanswered points. It seemed to me they lost the will to fight after losing the lead so fast. Like Carolina, that team is not built to come from behind.

That said, I hope they stomp the dog@#$% out of ya’ll…

Sorry--

but we need you to lose.

If we beat the Patriots and the Bucs beat y’all, we clinch the NFC south.

But—for this season at least—the Vikings have beaten you out for “NFC team I hate the most.” Seriously, I’m so sick of hearing about how great they are, how old Favre is, etc. Look at their schedule thus far and name ONE quality win: Browns, Detroit x2, Green Bay x2, San Fran, St Louis, Baltimore, Seattle. I guess you could argue the Ravens, but they missed a game-winning field goal that game, and they haven’t been particularly impressive this season.

Sorry, but I'm rooting for Tampa

but, if you still want my advice, the way you beat them is to score more points than them ( LOL)

I'm always worried

Look what happened to the Bengals and Steelers this last weekend. I would prefer the team leave nothing to chance.

Yeah, well no matter how much YOU prepare, it’s not going to make a whole lot of difference unless you have an inside pipeline in to Mike Smith and company.

And it wasn’t necessarily lack of preparation — especially on the part of the fans — that caused those losses. The reasons, among others, include:
1) Even KC and OAK are real NFL teams. They are professionals too, no matter how much they don’t always look like it. And while “any given Sunday” hasn’t happened a whole lot this year, it can and does still happen.
2) Big Ben isn’t as great as his fans think he is
3) Pitt isn’t the same without Polamalu
4) Pitt’s special teams problems are flat-out killing them right now. They’re about 5 plays from being 10-0, true, but they’re also about 5 plays from being 4-6. Their defense has been saving them from the rest of their team’s problems, but it can only do so much.
5) CIN has never won in Oakland. Ever. And from 1963 to 1982, when the Raiders were originally in Oakland, the Bengals weren’t the horrible joke of the 90s yet. Of course they didn’t play the Raiders much back then either, but still.
6) Bratkowski is an idiot at least half the time. His playcalling often makes Payton’s challenges look brilliant.

So I wouldn’t worry too much about it. You could lose to Tampa. But I wouldn’t bet on it. In fact, if I was betting I’d go for you to cover. And even if you do lose, it won’t be because you didn’t worry enough the week before. :)

Hello Dave..............

All the Falcons need to do is show up !!! I see no resistance. Especially if Turner can go. He can have a field day.

by saint-sly on Nov 23, 2009 7:09 PM CST reply actions

No Turner or Norwood please.

I grabbed Snelling off the waiver wire for a few of my fantasy teams this week and gladly rode him to victory across the board. I hope he shoulders the load again next week against a porous Bucs D.

Dave, I seriously think you have little to be worried about. The Bucs are a little better than their record, but I don’t see them getting the win in Atlanta. To be honest, if the Patriots don’t hand us our first loss, I think it very well could happen when we visit you guys in a few weeks.

Snelling's a go again this week

Norwood will be situational at best and Turner is definitely out.

COOL!!!!

Dude runs with an attitude. That’s probably because he was teased without mercy about his name as kid to the point where he’s now a full-on man-beast. Smelly Snelling will be poundin’ the rock this week!

Josh Freeman is adequite

But not much more than that. Like most rookies, if you get him frustrated he is only going to get worse. Malcolm Jenkins got a pick because Antonio Bryant ran a lazy route and after that Freeman was almost throwing the ball right to our guys. Get to him early and he won’t keep himself together.

"That Brees is a good quarterback." - Giants Free Safety Michael Johnson after a 48-27 Saints victory.

by VAsaintsfan on Nov 23, 2009 9:10 PM CST reply actions

One of the main things I noticed was the defenses seeming inability to adjust. We ran the same plays a few times and it was like they saw it for the first time. Once we started driving, they were unable to stop us, aside from Ronde Barber making occasional plays or Stylez White getting some pressure. They seemed easy to wear down, and prone to losing plays. Either that or I’m blind.

by Just Some Guy on Nov 24, 2009 12:42 AM CST reply actions

Uggg

You’re like the houseguest that never leaves, lol.

You need to get pressure from your front four actually. Once Freeman sees pressure coming, yet still has 7 dropped back into coverage, it could get ugly quick.

If Turner is back, I don’t see any issues on offense. Just keep Matt on his feet.

This is a little weird

A Falcons fan asking Saints fans for tips on how to win? Well, first of all, preparation, film study, dedication to the most minute detail. Put your 3rd and 4th string CB’s in, your 3rd and 4th string DT’s in and also put a backup in at FS. Have one of your CB’s get injured and leave the game and have to scramble your Backup FS to the CB position and play your secondary by ear through the rest of the game. Should be a cakewalk.

Seriously, it takes a wide variety to step up the way that the Saints did. Your O-Line will need to be on point. No slip ups allowed. “Matty Ice” has had a little trouble lately, and it happens to everyone. He will have to put his game face on and step up. I don’t believe in Sophmore Slumps, but it almost seems as if he is trying to prove that theory is valid. He has got to make his reads quickly, release the ball quickly, and he will have to trust in his receivers to come down with the ball. He has stacked talent with great hands, but they have to get the target to come down with it. Avoid Barber in the secondary or he could possibly make you wish you were playing the highscool down the street instead.

The receiver/TE corps has to give him a good reason to target them. If he throws to a receiver and they drop it, a little bit of trust is gone, and he will target them less and less when they drop the ball. They will also need to pick up good YAC. It is critical to get those 1st downs when the opportunity presents itself.

The Falc’s have a great RB department. With Turner, Norwood, Snelling, and even Stecker. If for any reason the top dogs are still inactive next week, Snelling and Stecker can definitely handle the load.

The defense will need to bring the pain. Pass rushing is a must, but stop the run as early as possible. Give them no choice but to air it out. Freeman is a rookie, and he makes the rookie mistakes that every other rookie QB has made this year. If ATL can jump out to a quick lead, this will limit the run as well. If you see the secondary having to tackle their RB’s, then you are in for a long day. Keep 3rd downs long. Once the run is eliminated, bring pressure swiftly and heavily against the young QB. When you put a lineman or a LB in his face, just wait for the INT to happen.

Very useful, thank you

I just want to be able to give my readers some observations from the team who most recently played the Bucs, and this is very helpful.

If the Patriots or Redskins beat us (not gonna happen, my friend)...

will you then go over to them for tips on how to win against the Saints. I know, I know. The answer is yes and you’ll most likely gush mountains of gratitude all over them for beating your arch rival. I’d probably do the same.

Actually, in the same vein

I was so shocked to see one of the Saints reporters or bloggers (can’t remember which) give what I thought was very good advice on HOW TO BEAT THE SAINTS!!!!! While I am a little less upset about giving info on how to beat a 1/8 competitor, it just seems wrong to give advice on how to beat your own team! I’m sure the thought was that, “well, whatever I know, I’m sure the competitor knows”. Big mistake! They can’t watch a team week in and week out, like we do. That’s just nuts!!!
