Gimme one of your best/funniest/whatever Saints Memories
I know the BEST memories are being made right now, but we all have great memories about the Saints. I am thinking of putting together a book of these. Anything goes. A few come to mind right off the bat for me. Of course, Jim Hendersen(SP) screaming "Hakim(sp) dropped the ball, Hakim dropped the ball" still gives me goosebumps, but one funny one to get things started:
I had a buddy in college (USM) who was a BIG Bucs fan back when Testeverde was their QB. Well, we got tickets in the nosebleed section. After a significant amount of schaeffer light was consumed in the parking lot, we made our way up to the seats. I hade my favorite Saints shirt and my buddy had his Lerooy Selmon creamsickle Bucs jersey. Well we were in a section of the WhoDat Nation that was particularly festive. After a little smak talk between my friend and the surrounding 300-400 Saints fans, the Bucs took the kickoff and marched down the field through our D like a hot knife through butter - or to borrow from the commercial, "Like a ball pene hammer through a porcelin doll's face"!
Well needless to say, my buddy took the opportunity to declare in no uncertain terms that the Bucs would kick our tails all day long...etc, etc, explative, etc...
The final score was something like 45-7 Saints. My poor friend had cooked himself up a big pot of crow and was eating it all the way home

I enjoyed watching the Saints kick the Giants butt
in Giants Stadium on christmas eve of 2006. The Giants never ran a play past their fifty and Giants fans were pissed, to say the least.

My high school graduation gift
Was a field pass and all expenses paid trip with my dad to see the Saints-Bucs game in 2001. The Saints were 7-6. It was 30-0 at halftime. The play of the day (by far) was a swing pass to Ricky Williams as time ran out (down 30-0). Williams caught it on his helmet and it bounced forward into the waiting arms of a Bucs defender who took off for the easy score only to be brought down seemingly by his shoelaces by Williams. Luckily dad and I laugh at that day.

This is a GREAT Memory !!!!!!
While driving from Vancleve Miss. to the Saints game in 1972, me and my buddy stoppoed and bought a 12 pack of Miller beer in the bottle. We drank every bottle on the way ………..But………….Running late, we pissed back in each bottle and recapped them and placed them back in the carton. When we were done we had 12 full bottles of Pee so when we got to the game I placed the 12 pack in the back of the truck. After the game when we got back to the truck……..someone had stolen them !!!!! Can you imagine what they thought when they got them nice and cold and popped the cap and turned it up. Man, I bet they never steal another beer again. LMAO…..True Story

So many, especially big wins!
my family has had season tix since day 1, but as I was out of HS in 82 I started going with friends on other tix. and during the Mora years my best friends’ GF was the daughter of one the Saints coaches and we would get VIP parking ,invites to the coaches wives suite(S) and sometimes a field aux. passes and the best game for all of that was when we beat the Crygirls 28-0 w/ a rookie QB named Troy Aikman, the season opener I believe. Complete domination.

A bit of an unusual one for me.
2003, the Saints were struggling to try for a playoff spot but needed to win their last 2 games to stay alive. My grandad was in the hospital for hip surgery, and I was watching the game with him. It was a game against the Jaguars, and the Jags had just scored a TD to go up by 7. I had accepted that they Saints had lost, but if my memory serves me, they get the kickoff returned for a TD. I was ecstatic. But then….Carney misses the extra point. Playoff hopes are gone in a 20-19 loss. I was crushed, but I’ll always remember my grandad just laughing and saying “Ya knew they were gonna do something like that.” And it being the 2003 season, I couldn’t disagree. Not always fun to remember the losses, but that one still gives me a laugh every now and then.

So I can let my wife off the hook, because she said "Watch they miss the extra point".
One of the greatest plays in the history of the NFL, will not ever get shown because we missed the extra point. That memory is burned into my mind.

That was gonna be my worst memory ever
I was in a bar that game. There was two Jag fans there. Not only was I annoyed by them but the way the Saints where playing knowing that the playoffs were at stake. They had rubbed it in when I thought for sure we would lose. Then ( i think it was beerman) gets us that td and I screamed so loud and pointed and fist pumped and chest pumped thinking yes we have a chance.Carney missed that extra point SEASON OVER ON A EXTRA POINTnot to mention what a fool i just made of myself but those memories have been erased (except when he missed that extra point this year)I think the next year he did something to cost us the playoffs I rember being very mad at Carney for awhile

How about this...
I am terrible with specific dates and details, but I remember one year, (I believe it was 1991) that the Saints were playing on the road and needed to win their early game, and a loss by another team in the late game to host a play-off game. After the Saints won their game, I went to the dome and lined up at the ticket window with about a hundred other people just in case the Saints got to host the game. I had a portable tv and a chaise lounge chair and everyone was gathered round to watch the other game. (It may have been Dallas, but the details are fuzzy.) Anyway, I got my tickets, and kept my streak alive of getting to see every home playoff game the Saints had until the 2006 season.

It was 1991
The saints where playing the cardinals and needed help to win the NFC West division. Stangely enough Dallas beat Atlanta 31-27 in the final minute along with the saints 27-3 win over the cards we won our first divison title. How cool was that!!! Only to lose to the falcons in the first round of the playoffs in the dome. Oh well it was still awesome. I personally hope we are all talking about the memory of the year the saints went 19-0 and won the superbowl!!! Im in the valley, where at in ca are you.

Thats it!
I was sitting in my lounge chair, covered with a blanket, and channel 6 news came by to interview me. Right as he’s asking me a question Dallas scored and I totally ignored him to cheer with the folks watching my little tv with me. Needless to say, my interview didn’t make the newscast…. lol.
I’m in Roseville, outside of Sacramento.

Championship Game, 2006
I was in Mosul, Iraq. We were on stand-by to go out on a mission. There were 10 of us crammed into this little room watching the game. Nearly every one of them was rooting for the Bears. I was the only Saints fan. I was getting razzed bad until Reggie took that pass the distance for the touchdown. It got dead quiet in there, and I turned to them all and said, "The offense just woke up, this game’s just getting started. It was right after the missed field goal that would have put the Saints up, that we got the call to go out. I’ve never been so happy while out on a mission in Iraq. I never got to see the second half, and I was pretty crushed when I got back and saw the final. But, for a few hours, life was just perfect.

When I was about 13 or 14 and still attending games with my dad, there were a few times when he couldn’t make it, so he’d let me invite my cousin or a friend from school to go. My dad would drop us off and pick us up at a designated area. Pretty much our time to do whatever we pleased. Well, a couple of those games were amazingly fun. During one, we somehow managed to get into the catwalks above the concession stands. We spent the better part of the second half exploring the various ladders and passageways up there, eventually winding up on the uppermost ring, above the gondola screens, which are no longer there. Had my dad known about that at the time, we wouldn’t have had to worry about falling, because he would have killed us.
During another game, we were hauling ass down the exit ramps at half time, which were carpeted in those gaudy colored stripes, and there was a group of kids, probably about our age, playing football on them. I came tearing around a corner, intercepted their mini football and just kept running with it. They came chasing after us and my friend tripped, so they all started ganging up on him. I slowed up and walked back toward them holding out their ball, saying “is this what you’re looking for?” Right when the kid went to take it from me, I shoved him back over my friend, who was still on the ground, and I spiked the kid with his own trinket just about as hard as I could. We then ran away laughing, like a couple of cowardly pussies. Still fun, though.

I don't remember the year but
it was in Tulane Stadium, the Saints were playing the Bears, and there was a 42 yard fumble. This is the ONLY Saints game I’ve seen in person. Anyway, my brother had season tickets and invited me and my (ex) wife. She knows nothing about football and could not have cared less.
The snap, the fumble, players on both teams are booting and squibing the ball down the field, the fans are all on their feet screaming and waving ~ except my ex who, I guess was just sittng there. However, I was standing up and going nuts. Right about that time my right elbow smashes into her head right between the eyes, she flips over the backless seat, her feet are in the air!!!! I remember wishing someone would hurry and recover the fumble so I could see if she was alright! For some reason she has never grasped the humor in that.
True fans have their priorities!!!!

Famous Blooper reel Fumble
I was there too. The thing about ol Tulane was once the sidelines of the lower section stood up, the end zones did too. It was the “Wave” before “The Wave” (w/o arms in the air) was invented. If you were a kid around tall adults you missed the end of big plays, and u had to ask the adults what just happened (no giant replay screens in the end zones.)

My brother and I would go the games in old Tulane Stadium
I was there when Dempsey kicked his 63 yard field goal. My brother and I were in the upper deck right one row back from the rail. We had stayed. Most of the fans had left a couple of minutes before. I remember the Saints completing two passes to Al Dodd and getting the ball to the Detroit 45 and I said to my brother they might as well try a field goal. Sure enough Dempsey came onto the field. When he kicked, I told my brother, if its on line it will make it. Sure enough it was good. I was so excited I almost threw my brother off the upper deck. I threw him over the deat in front and he hit the front rail. We still laugh about it, but it was very close to not being funny.

In Iraq for .......
MNF against Falcons! It was about 3 or 4 in the morning when the game came on. I had convinced some Navy and Army guys to watch it with me. There ended up being about 10 people. The place was electric, especially on the block punt/TD play!!!!!!! That game and experience will be forever etched in my memory….

My earliest memory of all...
is of sitting in front of my uncle’s TV watching the Saints (’67 or ’68) while the grown-ups were arguing about how long it would be before the Saints were as good as the Cowboys.
When Dempsey made The Kick, we were sitting on the seawall catching croakers and listening to the game on the car radio. We ran back to the car to hear better, and stood there dancing around to the music of “It’s good! it’s good! The Saints have WON!”

Fed Ex Field Fans
IN 2003, my sons and I were at the Skins game at fed ex field. It was a 4 p.m. game, so the tailgating had been going on for several hours. The fans were cool, just the jawing back and forth that is expected. We had great seats, we were about 15 rows above the tunnel where the Saints were coming and going on and off the field. Of course being that close to the team got us even more pumped up. It was a great game, Deuce ran for 165 yds. for the 9th. straight 100 yd. game in a row. The deadskin fans around us became more and more pissed with us as the game wore on, and one of them made the comment that he wouldn’t touch a Saints fan with a 10 ft. pole. When the game ended, I turned around to ask him about the pole, and was met with a sight, that still gives me chills. Almost that entire section, had turned into Who Dat Nation. It was full of Saints fans cheering the team as they came off the field, and the team cheering the fans. Above all this was the scoreboard reading Saints 24 Skins 20. I will be back at fed ex in two weeks for another W.

against san fran at home in 2006
i know it wasnt the most important game ever, but we were in a spot where it was time to prove that we were a dominant football team and not just a flash in the pan. reggie had four td’s, the dome was rockin, and i remember walking down the ramps only to see group after group of ridiculously happy saints fans dancing in the ramps…. ff to the end of the night when i was drinking 30 year old scotch at brennans steakhouse laughing with my friends that we were all going to get fired for going to dallas the next week (didnt end up making it to dallas, one of the greatest azz beatings in who dat history). i really think it was a critical milestone on our way to chicago that year.

Broncs Get Trounced
In 1988, at the tender age of 9, I went to my first Saints game. We annihilated the Broncos 42 – 0. I remember my Pop took me to see them, not sure how he got the tickets, but we had a great time. Rueben Mayes was making some great plays. Every time he made one the crowd would boo. Finally I asked my Pop ‘why was the crowd booing our team?’ That’s when he told me they were saying ‘Roo’ not ‘Boo’. After that everything made sense. Ah to be that young again.

3 games in 1983 all bad endings
1.I have cousins in Dallas, my dad, my dads’ friend and I flew to Dallas to visit them, they were long time Cowboy season tix. owners and homers(always rubbing in our mis-fortunes) had Cowboys/Saints tix. for Sept. 25 weekend. We went to Texas St. Fair all day Sat, then to game Sun, Saints w/Ken Stabler ,we had the lead all game, til Stabler gets sacked for a safety right in front of us(we had EZ seats 10/11th row) I have pics from an old 35mm Minolta of players walking right under me at half ,some plays and maybe even that safety, somewhere in my shoe boxes full of photos( I’ll post on FanShots asap)
2.Mon Nite game w/Jets- remember the hype b/c Saints weren’t a Mon nite draw , and Cosell coming to N.O. he disliked N.O. ,so the fans really gave it to him. Saints blew a 2 TD lead (still have the field pass -another Fanshot) Richard Todd was the Jet QB and the next yr. he’s the Saints QB. Side note; a foggy evening coming home following a friend to her apt.and a St. Trooper pulls me over , said I was swerving, told him I came from the game and my defrost was slow, he checked me out and let me go on.
3.The Finale v.s. The Rams. Our Saints were looking for their 1st play-off app. We were up and the Rams drive down get a long FG from “Barefooted” Mike Landsford( never understood how that guy kicked barefooted) The Rams never scored an off. TD in the entire game! That was the first time I saw Saints fans cry at a game.

I've been avoiding mentioning "that game"
The reason I was dying to mention the finale against the Rams is, I think it truly shows the spirit and fun-lovingness of the Saints fans. Alot of people would call it fair weather fans but I don’t. I loved it. Anyway, what I’m talking about, it sounds like you were there, also, right? As the Rams put the stake in the heart, as we were all beginning to walk out, without missing a beat (another NOLAn’s trait), (this was while the NOLA Breakers were in the AFL), the cheer went up, “Who Dat saying dey gonna beat dem Breakers”. Now, again, you could take that as fair weather fans. But, I take it as fans that know their team played their hearts out but, as sooooo often happened in those days, it just wasn’t going to happen. So, rather than a lot of teams that I won’t mention (but I’m #$%@#$% tempted to mention ONE!!!), they didn’t rag on about how screwed up their team was, they just shrugged it off and made some fun out of it. So much heart! And, by the way, I’ve been thinking about how much heart Archie used to have and that they should give him a trophy with a big heart on it. Well, as I learn more about Drew, he’s in the same class. And, that’s a lot of class on and off the field. It really makes you love ’em!
