Time to review the results of last weeks prediction contest and choose a winner.

We had three perfect scores this week and a lot of other people who nailed two of their three. Marques Colston failing to find the end zone really hurt a lot of people.Quite a few people had the Saints scoring 38 points with their predictions by nobody expected such a blowout and gave the Bucs just seven.

FLDunePatrol got all three correct as well

His second prediction is correct:

“2. Saints D gets 3 sacks and a pair of picks.” The Saints did get 3 sacks and 2 INTs. They also got 1 more INT, but FLDunePatrol didn’t predict exactly 2 picks. The wording of that prediction is not ambiguous, and the prediction is correct.

He did predict exactly two picks

If he’d meant AT LEAST two picks, then that is how he should have worded it. Or something like “a pair+ picks.” If i told you before the game that the Saints would get a pair of picks, how many interceptions would you think they would have?

but in a contest like this, I’ve got to establish stringent rules and stick with them to create what I deem to be a fair playing field. I can understand the frustration (we’re just trying to have fun here), but I think it works to everyone’s advantage.

Also, you might not believe this but If you and I made that bet of which you speak, I would NOT accept your money. A bet is a bet and two is two. In all seriousness, I probably would have also made sure I worded our bet specifically and clarified everything before we ever shook on it.

Like I said, it’s your game, your rules. I just thought that FLDunePatrol had the most accurate predictions overall, so I wanted to make the case for him. You and xen-cuts are right – it’s all for fun, and so long as the Saints keep winning, we’re all having fun!

Hmmmm

sounds to me like sandbagging works and I’ve never been a fan of that and I think I’m incorrect, but let me ask:

If I predicted the following and I was the only one to get all three right, would I win?

1. Saints score at least one touchdown.
2. Saints show up to play (sorry, that’s a little over the top, but worth checking).
3. Saints control the ball for at least 10 minutes.

I realize, Sainsantional, that you have a very tough position, but I HATE sandbagging. I fought it all of my career and you should have nofear that I will ever, ever sandbag.

Personally, I would suggest dropping the “at least” (yeah, Aaaarrrrggggghhhh!) stuff. I gotta believe, with as many people that are participaiting, that one persons will at least (YIKES!) get one right, so I don’t think you have to worry about a situation where everybody is totally wrong (which would make picking a winner pretty complicated).

Obviously, you’ve been doing this for awhile, so I hate to question, but maybe you can give us some insight here.

The more I think

the more I don’t know a good way to make this work any better. And, I hate rocking the boat when I don’t have a better suggestion, so the previous missive can be skipped, if you like. I’m pretty sure I know the answer. I’ll get back if I have any good suggestions.

And, believe me, I’ll come out with all guns blazing, just like the Saints, for the next prediction.
