After pouring over his stats every week, we should step back and realize how lucky we are to have Drew in our community.

"They're ready to be like 'Same Old Saints'" - Roman Harper, on each of the New Orleans Saints vanquished foes of 2009

title is a little

  misleading according to the article

So I won’t do that with Drew Brees when I make his case for Sportsman of the Year..
He is up for the award not that he won it.

NP

I probably would have done the same. To think our MAN BREES up for such a prestigious award.

An open letter to Drew Brees

the following is something I put on a fanpost previously and prior to learning of the posibility of Drew being named SI’s sportsman of the year. I think it more appropriately fits here

Dear Drew:

The Saints first game in Tulane Stadium was the same year I got my driver’s license. I was born and raised in New Orleans. Although I’ve lived in Texas for the majority of my life, New Orleans has always been home and the Saints have always been my team.

The first time I ever saw you was on a television interview shortly after you signed with the Saints and prior to your first game wearing black and gold. I don’t think it was a sports channel; it was on a “news” program as I recall. At the time, any human interest story regarding the aftermath of Katrina was still considered newsworthy.

Regardless of where the interview originated, I remember how impressed I was. Rather than your athletic ability, I was most impressed with your immediate connection to the city and your belief that becoming a Saint was “fate”. In ways I can’t come close to explaining, I agree. I also believe it was fate.

Many things have come together to put us in the position we now enjoy. The vision of Sean Payton was the first step, but you becoming a Saint is the core foundation upon which all of our hopes and dreams are built.

I hope you lead our team to a championship this year and in years to come. The people of New Orleans deserve it. You deserve it.

However, regardless of how things play out……

Thank you.

The announcement of the SI Sportsperson of the Year is December 1

The day after we play the Pats. That is a big week for us. Wouldn’t it be sweet for him to win that award after winning the big game, too? We’ll see!
