Belichick Talks Saints

The New England Coach Talks about His Team and the "game of the year" against the New Orleans Saints.

For those of you like me, here's a transcript of the coach that you can overanalyze.  I know I did; wondering what his game plan is going to be.  I found a couple of things he mentioned as far as players pretty interesting.  He's definite a good coach, maybe not a people person but then again I don't know him personally.  Anyway, this is the most I've even heard of him speaking to anybody.  All the sound bites I've seen of him show him giving one to three-word answers.

Quote from Belicheck

“They kind of look, in some ways, a little bit like the Rams did back in 2001 with a player like [Reggie] Bush similar to [Marshall] Faulk — a guy who could come out of the backfield, and split out and be a receiver, but line up in the backfield and be a running back. Players like that that are just rare — very hard to match up with — that give an offense a dimension that you just don’t see during the course of the year and then all the other things that go with it.”

Well, Tay, I guess you are right in spite of what at least a few Saints fans seem to be in denial about. Who are we to argue with this football genius?? Pretty high praise.

Do you REALLY think Belichick was offering his actual opinion

…on an upcoming game!? “Let them think we’re game-planning for Bush. They’ll never suspect what we actually have prepared for them.”

During the season, you can’t trust anything that comes out of Belichick’s mouth. Even his CO2 ought to be verified.

Makes sense

I was wondering if there wasn’t some ulterior motive, like trying to build an opponents frenzy potential to mess with their heads.

Yes i really think that was Belicheck's actual opinion and If you read the rest of the interview

it seems apparent that he is telling his truthful opinion of the Saints and their weapons. he is not telling you if he will game plan for Reggie or what his game plan is, but it seems what he is saying is just common sense and what the rest of the league says about the Saints. We have a lot of weapons on offense that makes us dangerous, we have a great QB in drew Brees, and game planning is difficult because in addition to that we have one player in particular who is very explosive and can do many things unlike a lot of NFL RBs. Also on defense we are very good at takeaways. That’s the word on the Saints around the league.

He may choose to not focus on Reggie, or Colston, or Shockey, or PT,Thomas, Bell, Meachem, Henderson, Moore. But he didn’t say anything about that. I think he just said the truth as every other coach and analyst sees it also.

I'm with Phil

I think coaches really do think that.

Reggie may not be dangerous every single game, but you and I both know he can put together 60 minutes of good football from time to time. No coach, particularly Belichick, wants to be caught sleeping at the wheel or caught with his pants down if Bush manages to put together those minutes against his team and he’s not prepared. You’ve just got to account for him.

I think

He’s poor mouthing.Kind of like the rich dude who knows he’s rich but doesn’t want anyone else to know

that's what I was thinking...

he mentioned him a couple times and the dude doesn’t even get the ball much! I mean it could be a ploy but I don’t think so, Bush gets respect around the league.

Don't worry I got your back cuz...

Not a hater

He ain’t much of a talker, but ain’t a hater, either.

Except for the jets, of course, who deserve it.

Really, really high praise for the defense…

If it’s not on the cover page of this sb nation’s site, let me know. I copied it. It was too good to lose.

Actually, the one I liked even better was the quote from the TB coach. Someone asked him something about Drew being a little bit off, so was he less of a worry. The answer stareted with, “Are you crazy?!?!” We’re talking Drew Brees.

yeah, but

what was his intention in saying all of those most complimentary comments.

Was it:
1. To keep the press off his back when we blow them away?
2. Mess with our minds?
3. Be honest and trustworthy opponent and friend to the press.
4. All of the above

Ya'll are reading too much into

that transcript. The man aint gonna hand out no ammunition for anybody to use against him or his team. Payton’s transcript was very vague also but they don’t want any useful info getting out that might give a clue as to who’s playing and what their going to do. It’s just a chess match. The final word I want to hear is CHECK MATE !!!

Billy B

He will have his team ready. They scheme well against Greg Williams Defenses (he has been in the AFC for years, coached the bills). Bill has seen enought of his stuff……but i think the way williams has done things this year with his personnel just has billy b guessing a little bit.

I agree dont read into it to much

Belichick all about detail

he’s only saying the obvious, about us, what everybody says this yr. as far as coach speak goes. He probably wishes he could coach the Saints. And to be honest outside of his blunder @ Indy, if he was our coach I don’t think we would have stuggled v.s. Rams (Payton did call some dumb stuff in St.Lou). Anyway I don’t want bash Payton, but at the same time I don’t want him to lose the game, instead of play execution, player mistakes, or penalties. If we only new what’s said in closed player/coach prep. meetings this week thats the true coach speak. Oh to be a fly on the wall, or in New Orleans that coachroach in the corner….I has to be an offensive explosion type game, NE def isn’t the one of years past with Bruschi,Vrable,Harrison ,Seymour, etc We’ll have our hands full with Moss and Co. b/c of our banged up 2ndary but a couple of stops more is the difference..Heres one, its 4&2 on our 28 1:30 left, does Payton punt/go for it?, sound familiar?

Here's the answer:

Brees throws a 77 yard bomb to Colston sitting between the “i” and “n” in the Saints end zone!

On of them there Kodak moments!

Fat, dumb, and happy. Hell, two out of three ain't bad!

i don't think anyone here is looking to deep into this...

he didn’t reveal anything. he just mentioned what he thought of the team. That’s why I used the term overanalyze, what coach does reveal anything?

my take....

The Pats coach seems to be most worried about the Saints offense…the Pats will look to pressure Brees and the game will be won at the line of scrimmage. That line needs to protect Brees and allow ZERO sacks, then, and only then, will the Saints come out with a win.
