How the Saints helped us escape from the Soviet Union

Last night, we finally had time to call up NFL Game Rewind and watch the Tampa Bay game. Since my own computer, a Mac, is older than my wife's, a PC, and has a video card that's insufficient, we watch on hers.

We logged into Game Rewind, and Firefox crashed. Never did that before. Logged in again, another crash. Again, another crash. Hours of Googling and tech chat later, and the best they could come up with was, re-install Firefox and Flash. So we trashed Firefox, re-started, and launched IE to download a new Firefox. Big mistake.

"I'm not sure what you're trying to do," says IE.

"We're trying to reach the Internet," says we.

"The Internet? What's that?"

Now we can't get on the web at all. Gone, Kaput. And why? Who knows? It's back to the interminable journey into the heart of darkness, trying to figure out the guts of this Soviet-era technology. After another couple hours of wrestling with it, we finally have our answer: who knows? To quote Jonesy, "Kludge, megakludge to the max!"

So this morning, my wife makes the announcement: "I can't stand this anymore. I want a Mac."

Ah, the blessed freedom of it all! Bless you, boys...you helped break us out of the Gulag! No matter what else happens this season (and you better win the Super Bowl...or there will be consequences), I'll always be grateful for this.

(Now all I gotta do is pay for it...)

I'm a Mac at home...

they both have their pros and cons, but I think the Mac outweighs the PC in Pros. You really haven’t had to worry about Macs catching viruses at this point. Part of that is due to the over saturation of PC’s in the world so hackers like me don’t really spend much time dwindling in Mac World.

Give her a month with that stupid one-button mouse

and she’ll be begging for a PC. I mean, have you ever tried to use word processing software on a Mac? Most frustrating process in the world.

Word processing software is what’s frustrating. Especially if it’s Microsoft Word. No, make that “especially if it’s Microsoft,” and turn it into a blanket statement.

21.5" iMac. Brought it home an hour ago.

(And I’ve never used anything but a one-button mouse. I love ’em.)

i hate having to use other peoples macs

my girlfriend “loves” macs, and uses my pc every chance she gets.

whatever

Mac’s have had two and more button mice for 4 years now. But how will it help the saints?

Whatever a mac can do

I can make a PC that does it better, and cheaper.

Can you make a PC that runs a system that doesn’t make you want to stick needles through your eyes?

and....

jason david was a Mac, but he couldnt cover the PC receivers so the saints deleted him

by saintsfan77 on Nov 25, 2009 4:58 PM CST reply actions

Actually david would be more PC if we want to make the analogy

stick weight for weight. The whole “one-button” mouse thing is just you being used to PC. Talk to someone whose had a virus on a mac—oh wait that never happens.

Odd that mac users constantly bring up the virus argument

True there are fewer viruses designed for macs, but they are still out there, and I know one mac user (my sister) that did get a virus simply because she had the mindset that there are no mac viruses, therefore she didn’t need to protect it.

The thing that makes it so interesting about mac users using this as a bragging point is that it is a direct result of no one using a mac. There is nothing about a mac that makes it safer than a PC. It is simply a result of virus makers writing something that will reach the most people. As macs gain a larger share of the computer market, the number of viruses out there for them goes up. The more you convince people of how high and mighty a mac is, the more you tear down one of the things you say makes them so great.

True enough

Macs are kinda like the Saints…they’ve flown under the radar for most of their existence. And Macs are also kinda like New Orleans: funky, and vital, and interesting, and overflowing with energy, compared to PCs and Cleveland. Who also hasn’t won a Super Bowl. I rest my case.

i already stated that earlier...

that more people use PC’s so viruses are more prevalent. Still at a convention it took like an hour or something like that to hack into a mac in what it took like 5 minutes to do with a PC. Like I also said there’s pro’s and cons to both, just think the Mac is sexier. That can change anytime.

The Flakiness

Yeah not only do Macs get viruses. The other misconception, that they never crash and always work… lets just say Macs have their own BSoD(Blue Screen of Death). And I freaking despise the classic 1 button mouse. It’s just annoying.

Wait… wait… I know now lets get into XBox 360 vs PS3 and really get the flamers going.

GAMERSCORE

XBox does profiles and all so much better than PS3. Until they realize that, it will be an even contest. The moment PS3 comes out with better UI and gamer profiles, it’s gonna start pulling away . . . quick.

not even just the profiles...

live is just an amazing experience. The interface is just sick. sure they came out with the online platform first but the fact that I can hop on and just play anyone immediately is sick. Not to mention the edition of Netflix, zune, facebook and internet radio. I know PS added netflix but they don’t allow partys to join up and watch movies together. Not that I do that but it’s cool to have the option.

PC vs Mac

PCs are still FAR AND AWAY a better system for gamers. I don’t care what any of you Mac users try to say about that, it’s straight BS. The majority of games are made for Windows and gaming is the fastest growing and most successful industry in computers.
