Joe Buck is as much of an idiot as Troy Aikman

...man, I was suffering through the Chicago/Minnesota game, trying not to throw objects at the screen because of the horrific play-by-play work of the single most ignorant and annoying pair of common-tators in all of NFL football...and just when I thought I couldn't get more annoyed irritate and angry, Joe "Sideshow Bob" Buck makes this comment:

"What sets the Vikings apart from teams like the Saints is their rushing offense."

Uh....huh?

OK, so I think...well, maybe I didn't remember the difference, and they actually do have a better rushing offense...

...no, I check the NFL.com site for stats, and my memory is correct:

Saints rushing offense rank: #5
Vikings rushing offense rank: #10

...how the HELL do these guys get jobs? Mind you, not jobs commentating on TV about ANYTHING, but jobs period. I wouldn't hire someone that unable to check facts to muck a stall...

I hope they never put these two nosepickers on a Saints game again.

I think he was right...

Our rushing offense IS what sets us apart from the Vikings. Ours is better, and we have the better team. The only way we will get true respect from analysts and others who don’t follow us as closely as they should will be to win the WHOLE DAMN THING!

Was that before or after Troy Aikman said

that there was “no question” Minnesota was the best team in the NFC. Not “one of the best.” Not “maybe the best.” But beyond question. Don’t even consider the unbeaten Saints, with the #1 offense and a better rushing game than the Vikings. Nope, they don’t even belong on the same field.

Buck I can understand…he’s just a hack broadcaster, someone who gets paid big money because he can sound smooth while being stupid. But what excuse does Aikman have for being a football idiot?

lol you guys are funny...

I caught that too, cognitive dissonance strikes again. We’ve been known as a passing team for the last few years and now that we run…people still see us as a passing team. Other than that though, i don’t find Aikman to be that bad at all, especially compared to Collinsworth or however you spell it.

Don't worry I got your back cuz...

I find Aikman refreshingly objective as a sports commentator. Whether or not I agree with his opinions is a different story.

yeah I don't let the negative things they say about my team rattle me...

unless it’s just super left field, which in my opinion Troy doesn’t usually do.

I dont think they have any new writers

I think their useing last years scripts cause it obvious noone there watches football.like I said before Troy hates us cause we beat him he first start ever.Once again we got the harder schedaul beat teams in a swifter fashion have better stats and more turnovers but their the more rounded team.all it is, is our past till we prove otherwise we’ll never get any recodnition. untill we prove like minn that we can go to the nfc championship and lose we’ll never get the respect of minn(ohh wait we did)Lets face it till we get a commentator from new orleans well have to listen to all these explayers biased crap.(ohh wait we have a NFC south guy in there and you see what he say about us(John Gruden)hes got us going all the way.So we(espesialy me)just have to relize their gonna pick there team they like and not the ones that are better.Unless there already good and then there already on the wagon

I just hope

Were not stuck with those 2 idiots calling the Saints / Cowboys gamein a few weeks.
We will be called everything from the luckiest team in the nfl to the ref’s pet

by mississippisaintsfan on Nov 30, 2009 7:39 AM CST reply actions

On NFL Network, not FOX

So the commentators will probably be Matt Millen and that other dude. Matt has proven with the Lions what a disaster his decisions are, so if he says the Vikings are better we’ll know for sure that the opposite is true.

"I said this early on that this was a good football team, they just maybe had to have a stick put in certain parts of their body to play a little harder in certain places to where we’re able to take interceptions and score touchdowns."--Gregg Williams

Actually

I heard him say last week he thought the Saints were the best team in the nfl

by mississippisaintsfan on Nov 30, 2009 11:48 AM CST up reply actions

I find Millen to be a good commentator

You just have to look past his mess-ups with the Lions. Which is easy, because I don’t give a damn about them.

Worst announcing pair in the game

I can give Aikman a pass on it simply because he has had so many concussions he thinks its still 1997. Joe Buck was clearly brought in as an announcer and not an analyst, yet he still tries to do the analyst part that he is unqualified for. He doesn’t have a clear understanding of the game and I think they just wanted him to put Aikman’s thoughts into something people could understand, kind of like how Pat Summerall did for John Madden back in the day.

Both

Total yards & yards per game.

Oh, and after yesterday, but before tonight, the Saints are now #4, and the Vikings are #5. I’m betting that will change somewhat to the Saints advantage after tonight.

Bottom line, Joe Buck is a moron; Aikman is brain-damaged and should be in an institution, not calling NFL games for 6 figures a year.

Bottom line

Those two numbers don’t define the quality of running games. During the broadcast Aikman said as much.

by Salty on Nov 30, 2009 11:33 AM CST up reply actions

Dude.

The Saints are averaging 30 yards a game more than the Vikes. Yes, that does define quality.

i havent liked joe buck since...

randy moss fake mooned packers fans in green bay after a td. joe buck – “thats just disgusting!”. i disagree, thats hilarious. moss spent the better part of his career getting mooned everytime he went to green bay. so how does he pay the fine from the nfl? “Straight Cash, Hommie” best quote ever. now, everytime you hear a game called by buck, some kind of garbage like that comes out.

ironically enough, according to football outsiders, they have a more efficient passing game than us (4th vs 6th) and we have a much more efficient running game (2nd vs 21st).

by DrewBreesManCrush on Nov 30, 2009 10:13 AM CST reply actions

I fail to see the irony in that. Probably because I haven’t thought of New England as a running team since Curtis Martin.

Annoying

I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who noticed how stupid Joe Buck is. When he said that about the Vikes having a better rush game, I immediately yelled at my TV, “YOU FRICKIN’ MORON!” Just another guy talking out of his ass. I’ve never liked that guy ever since he and his regular booth mate for World Series games seemed to favor the Yankees over the Braves when those two teams matched up in the big game.

Aikman later backtracked on his statement that the Vikes are better by saying the matchup would come down to whichever team had homefield. I kinda agree with that but still think the Saints can win in Minnesota.

I agree that the opinions of ignorant people like this don’t matter. We’ll prove it to them in the playoffs. The Saints’ history is so bad that these people still basically see us as the Aints. I’ve often thought that we’ll have to win not one but two Super Bowls before they take us seriously because they’ll most likely claim the first one was a fluke.

SCREW "EM!!!!!!!!!

you guys also have to look at why they say this...

Adrian Peterson. Sure we may get more yards but they have more name recognition and superstar status with AP. I think that’s why they say that. Objectively speaking people would probably take AP over our RB’s anyday. Even though we get more yards.

Don't worry I got your back cuz...

by TAYDIGGA on Nov 30, 2009 12:04 PM CST reply actions

Absolutely

Individual players are always going to carry a higher level of recognition than collective achievement among a group. Without looking at statistics, how would you rank the following teams’ running games, based on what you know of their personnel?

1. New York Jets
2. Miami Dolphins
3. Dallas Cowboys
4. Cincinnati Bengals
5. Jacksonville Jaguars
6. Minnesota Vikings
7. Baltimore Ravens

If you guessed “in the order they’re listed”, you’d be correct. Cedric Benson, Maurice Jones-Drew, Adrian Peterson and Ray Rice are all having exceptional all-around seasons, but they’re are several teams more geared towards RBBC that are having better rushing seasons on the whole. The Saints are just one of those that happen to quietly share the wealth.

And fewer fumbles.

AP put the ball on the carpet twice yesterday (only one was a turn over), and it wasn’t on hard hits or anything, just being stood up and simply stripped.

I’ll take Bell & Thomas over that.
