Do you still draft Reggie?
You are Sean Payton. You accidentally get into a Delorian on the corner of Canal and Bourbon and time travel back to Draft Day 2006. Prolly the biggest draft in Saints history. Do you still select Reggie Bush? I say a resounding...YES!!!!! He brought the excitement back to the dome before we knew what we had in Brees. He was the #1 jersey seller and brought national attention to the Saints. He has been a model citizen and is very well spoken and humble. He is an exicting player and has always made plays for the team when healthy. Hopefully he will continue to consistently have games like last week. To all you Reggie haters, I carefully extend my middle finger.

I dunno
I am a big Reggie fan, but with full hindsight it would be hard to pass on Maurice Jones-Drew and Joseph Addai. And with the Defense problems of the past couple of years it would have been pretty nice to find someone like Antonio Cromartie, Haloti Ngata, Demeco Ryans, Cortland Finnegan or Antoine Bathea. And how awesome would it be to have Elvis Dumervil or Mathias Kiwanuka instead of Charles Grant right now? Its nice to dream, but yeah, Reggie was the correct pick at the time.

Absolutely not. It would have been DeBrickashaw Ferguson at the time and it still would be. LeDale White, Maurice Jones-Drew, Jerious Norwood, Michael Robinson, Leon Washington, Jerome Harrison, Quinton Ganther, Pierre Thomas, Mike Bell … practically any RB drafted in 2006 would have been better than Bush, when coupled with a franchise LT.

That’s not including Maroney and Addai, who could have been had on a trade down + additional picks. I truly believe we would have been where we are now two season ago, had that pick been handled properly.

my problem with bush (the reggie kind)
My only problem with Reggie is that he hesitates too much waiting for something to open up. It is like babying a Ferrari waiting for just the right time to hit the gas. A Ferrari stuck in traffic is no better than a Pinto! Dang Reggie! You got the speed, just make a decision and hit the gas already. I have been around long enough to have witnessed Barry Sanders and see some similarities between the 2. Same frame, same speed, different attacks. Barry knew where he was going and was determined to get there. Sometimes it didn’t work but the majority of the times it did. Oh yeah, and the ability to shake like Jell-O and make defenders see two of him also helped.

No
I would have traded down and taken DeAngelo Williams instead. With whatever extra pick I got for giving up Reggie, I’d draft Marcus McNeill.

Good call. Ferguson was my choice based on staying put at 2nd overall. I would have definitely preferred to trade down at the time. In fact, even after the drafted Bush, I was hoping for a Bush-for-Ferguson swap (similiar to Manning-for-Rivers), with the goal being additional picks. When it didn’t materialize, I sucked it up and watched the next few rounds completely disinterested.

You guys don't remember
Reggie sold out the dome for season tickets. Right after the pick season ticket sales spiked. Additionally, before his big injury, Reggie was setting a record for touchdowns scored. Remember all the ways Reggie was scoring tds. Then he gets hurt trying to do too much on a punt return at the end of a half a fluke injury. Reggie’s value is not in his carries, but in his threat in scoring on any play. You don’t see the real value in Reggie. He is a td machine when he is not hurt. The only reason anyone is saying anything is injuries and anyone you draft can get injured at any time. Reggie can score anytime he touches the ball. He is not a 30 carry back, but he is a guy who has scored touchdowns in I believe four different ways.

They would have sold out those same games eventually by winning. There’s nothing in Jerious Norwood’s avg yds per carry, avg yds per reception, avg yds per touch, etc., that leads me to believe he couldn’t produce the same numbers (or better) that Reggie did in 2006 (or since), if utilized in the exact same manner. Same goes for Leon Washington and most of the guys I already mentioned. It was a luxury pick at the time and has never amounted to anything more since. Further, I’d feel the same way, even if Bush was every bit the player he was billed as coming out of college, so it really has nothing to do with expectations, hype, etc. It simply isn’t the selection I would have made at the time, nor in hindsight, based on need and/or what was/is best for the team.

True, but at the time they were NOT winning
Hence, the second pick in the draft. As far as producing Reggie’s number before his injury, that is not an arguable position, because it didn’t take place. Reggie did produce those numbers before his injury, from which I don’t think he fully recovered.
Personally, I would never draft higher than number 10 unless I had the first pick and a Peyton Manning or someone was available. I would trade down below 10 with picks 2 through 9. Better yet, I really like picks 12 through 18.

That’s where the word “eventually” comes into play. With Reggie Bush came a buttload of fans. With winning came a buttload of fans. The two aren’t synonymous. If they were, the Saints wouldn’t have defeated the Bucs and Patriots this season. It’s not an arguable position, because it didn’t take place? Oh, and time traveling in a DeLorean is? Sorry to overstep the clearly defined bounds of reality there, AC.

You have a very selective memory
That first and second season Bush won several games single handed. Many of the touchdowns he scored were spectacular and I don’t think any of the players you mentioned would have the athletic ability to get them. I can think of two this season that were works of art. Bush is not having a great season, but when he is in the game the defense KNOWS where he is, because he skills the p-odle out of them.
Additionally, the Saints sold out BEFORE they started winning because of Reggie. I would content that without Bush and Colston, the Saints would not have had the same offense they had in 2006 and 2007. Injuries, not defenses, have stopped Reggie and that could have happened to anyone.
Instead of wanting not to draft him, I want him to get more touches in space or on end arounds, like the pre-injury days. I want him to get more touches, not fewer.

can't agree...
go back and look at all of Reggie’s touchdowns—ALL OF THEM. I’d say a majority of them only Reggie Bush could score those TD’s, coming out of that draft. With that being the case, we don’t win some of those games and we aren’t even in several of them. Not to mention, defenses game plan totally different from how they have been if someone else is back there. Fan or not of Reggie. His name alone impacted def. coaches. There are Reggie Bush Rules. Draft him again! A better question is if Reggie could do it all over again and have impact in where he goes a la Eli Manning, would he do it knowing what he knows now?

Not me
Someone did a study of tyrannosaur speed, and concluded they couldn’t run because they could not afford to fall down. So big they’d splat themselves.
Same thing with Nicks…if he leaped in from the 6, he’s probably lose body parts on impact.

it's tough
i really like Reggie. Knowing that he’d get injured over and over again like this, i’d probably say no and get a defensive player especially knowing that we’d get PT and could get another decent, good backup RB with one of our lower picks. If he’d stay healthy I’d draft him every time and 3 times on Sundays.

I personally don't think any back you draft would be in that much different of a situation
except maybe the injuries considering our line and the fact that Deuce was the main back and Payton was pass-happy the first 3 years. So in hindsight…YES! No other PERSON would’ve done what he’s done for the city itself. MJD, Addai or whoever wouldn’t bring that. Sorry, and that’s not even the apologist in me talking that’s real spit!

Bush or Bush?
Ya’ll talking like he is kin to “dubya”. Hell this is Reggie Bush, not George.
He has added value in the fact the defense usually has to account for him with 2 guys or their fastest player. He is used more as a decoy than anything. He is a tremendous weapon, I have thought that if we traded him, then we would have to defend him, scary thought. I know he has trouble finding the creases, but give him a hole and he is gone.
Is he worth a 1st rounder, I think yes, just due to the fact that it made the Saints something that John Mecom never gave a dam about, a winner!!!!!!

This is an example of what Reggie does.
This article is from the Dallas Morning Star and it shows why Reggie is so good for the Saints http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/spt/football/cowboys/stories/121609dnspocowscout.33f7099.html
