Help me out with this, will ya?
I've been having a friendly argument with a friend of mine about which of the current Saints receivers is the "best". My friend is an LSU homer and refuses to believe that anyone other than Devery Henderson is the best receiver. His reasons range from Devery playing in the SEC and winning a "national championship" in 2003 to him being the fastest player on the team. (Robert Meachem actually had a faster 40 time.) My vote is and always will be Marques Colston. Even though he is not the fastest on the team, I still feel as though his height and his hands are more important than speed, especially with the way Colston plays...playing in the slot, taking hits, etc.
So help us out! How do you rank the Saints WR's?

Colston, Henderson, Meachem
A few weeks ago it was Colston, Meachem, and Henderson. Devery has impressed me since then and since he fixed his drop problem. Meachem is just as good, though. We’re lucky to have so many excellent WRs where most teams barely have one.

It don't matter- because it really just depends on which week it is and what match seems to work better.
and who is having a better day because they are all excellent.

There are so many variables with the Saints that it would be impossible to say. There in lies one of our secrets of success, defenses don’t know who, when or why the hot guy is going to be. Why we have top offense and not one WR with a 1000yds yet…depth depth depth and the Redskins are not going to be able to swim across the Potomac without sinking in this deep offensive attack.

Depends on whether you mean “as of right now” or “over the long haul”. Over time, definitely Meachem, Colston, Henderson. Meachem will be an elite WR in the league within the next 2 to 3 years. He’s just starting to come into his own. He reminds me of Anquan Boldin and/or Rod Smith. Colston has excellent size and great hands, but he’s not the playmaker Meachem is. His yards per reception attest to that. He’s a Herman Moore clone. Henderson’s serviceable, but I don’t really view him as being any better than say, a Jerricho Cotchery, Nate Burleson type. He’ll wind up putting up decent cumulative career numbers though, based strictly on longetivity. He’s Keenan McCardell with a bit more speed.

Devery
I am jeremy_smith’s aforementioned friend, and he neglected to mention that I also cited Henderson’s yards per reception average, which has been “BEST” in the entire NFL since 2006. So, I’m not basing my argument primarily on the fact that Henderson and I attended the same university.
Don’t forget his drop percentage, which has also been the league’s “BEST” since ‘06. Typical boom or bust speed burner. If Yamon Figurs played for the Saints and wore #19, you’d never know the difference.

That probably came off as a bit harsh. I like what Devery brings to the table as a #3 guy and he has the potential to be a productive starter in this offense (as would most NFL caliber receivers) … I just don’t view him as anything terribly special, when compared to the other two. His inconsistency over his career definitely plays into that. As a 2nd round pick, he should have been where he is now 3 or 4 years ago, not losing reps to journeymen WRs, like Copper and Pathon.

Hen got better and this year he has been outstanding
but I think there all the same with a perfect combination could you imagine if moore was healthy each one of those recivers have had to step up into starting roles and theve all done phenomanal with no drop off thats impressive but together they are the best wide reciveng group weve ever seen and we got all of them for years to come we will break alot of team records saints and NFL
Colston, but with an asterisk
It has to do with need. Just like the Pats use Moss to vertically stretch the field but throw to Welker 10 times a game, they each have their benefits.
Lance Moore is Mr. Reliable in the Red Zone and is a great route runner, Colston is perfect for the sideline jump balls, Henderson is a streaker that overcame the dropsies, Meachem is progressing into a reliable catcher and is learning to run crisp routes.
I call a 4-way tie, and I don’t want to lose ANY of them. I think Colston would be the hardest to replace though.

I agree with that.

Colstons play has made them all better
and you all left out the best of all. Lance Moore is more consistant than anybody and can make the long or short pass. He just dont drop any.
Colston, Meachem, Moore
Lance Moore had been dinged up lately but MAN is he a good slot WR. Henderson I left off simply because these guys are a cut above.
Nothing against Henderson, Moore has just been written off due to his nagging ankle injury. The guy busts his butt off in practice and after practice.
WHO DAT!!
Colston
because He has the heighth to get the ball and the ruggedness to fight off the recievers for the ball.
Colston
I think Colston is the best all around receiver that we have. We have guys with hands, we have guys with speed, we have guys that run excellent routes, and we have guys that can run after the catch; but we have all of the above in Colston thus making him a complete receiver. He runs excellent routs that I think may only be matched by Moore. He uses his whole body to shield the catch making his hands not the only factor in making a reception. His size and athleticism put him over the top. And he seems to be more focused and driven to be a great receiver than any other I’ve seen.
Henderson, Meachum, Colston
Going strictly by their performances this year, I have to give Henderson the nod as the most consistent, followed by Meachum. Colston has had a couple awful games, so I put him third so far this season.

Those bad
games, I believe were because the defense was focusing on Colston. I think that was why in ‘07 he didn’t get the ball as much. Teams knew he was the person to shut down. In ‘06, no one knew who he was or what he was capable of doing. Now that they know, they play him tough. Now that the Saints have so many more weapons, he has been getting his fair share of catches. Moore has been out for a while, so people are forgetting about what a great player he is. I think that he is resting up for the playoffs, which might be bad if he can’t get back into the swing of things before the playoffs start. I deffinately see him coming back for the Dallas game.
Colston
had back to back bad games against both the Panthers and the Rams. He lost a fumble against the Rams that could have cost us the game. His dropped passes weren’t the result of the defense focusing on him, he just had a couple of bad games. That’s the main reason why I put him 3rd out of our top 3 so far this year. Having said that, I love Colston and am glad he’s a Saint.

WITH COLSTON
You have to be carefull , he is a world beater at times and when you really start bragging on him , he goes into a funk and drops everything coming his way. When he does this , he will follow up with missing several games with some (minor) injury. Then , he returns and it takes a lot of games for him to get back in the groove again . I like him a lot but , I trust all the other receivers much more . My biggest problem is Reggie Bush. Here is a guy that hardly ever plays more then a few downs in a game , but never adds up to much ? He is probably the worst punt returner in the history of the NFL. I use to like him , something is afoul with this player. We held him out the complete preseason and then when he got in the games at start of season we heard that he needs more time ? He is a regular on the (injury list ). He needs to played or get him out of here , but not to a team in our division , cause we all know what happens then ! WH DAT
