My thoughts after the Cowboys game, as if they matter....
After digesting the outcome of the game for a while, I've realized a couple things which might have been obvious for some of you previous to me saying it.
1) We've known that we were going to the playoffs for quite some time. The Cowboys needed this game to make the playoffs and even after this win, they aren't in. They need to win out.
2) The depth at the corner position that I thought we had isn't there. Jenkins is obviously still a rookie. McKenzie has, in fact, lost a step.
3) Drew's worst game this season. The lack of time to make anything happen didn't help, but he made some horrible decisions when he had the time. This will probably end up being his worst game of the 2009 season. He's that focused.
4) I'm happy we don't have the "undefeated" tag on us anymore. It adds stress that we don't need.
5) We as Saints fans have been accustomed so accustomed to losing that this season has been miraculous. We have never gone this long into a season with no losses. We got spoiled this year. We're still 13-1. No one else in the NFC can say that. We still have a first round bye and, with our remaining schedule, we still look golden for home field advantage.

I don’t know about golden per se. I do know I’ll be rooting for the punkthers tomorrow night. Even if I have to puke afterwards.
If we can’t beat the Bucs and Panthers, we don’t deserve home-field advantage.

Some points
1) We’ve known that we were going to the playoffs for quite some time. The Cowboys needed this game to make the playoffs and even after this win, they aren’t in. They need to win out.
The most dangerous teams are the teams with their backs against the wall. Better to lose now than in the playoffs.
2) The depth at the corner position that I thought we had isn’t there. Jenkins is obviously still a rookie. McKenzie has, in fact, lost a step.
Jenkins is a rookie and McKenzie has lost a step. I won’t forget the role McKenzie had in that game against the Patriots. Sometimes the stars just align correctly and the plays you need to make are made. Everything goes well. Then the same stars align a different way and the team lays a turd on the field. It happens.
3) Drew’s worst game this season. The lack of time to make anything happen didn’t help, but he made some horrible decisions when he had the time. This will probably end up being his worst game of the 2009 season. He’s that focused.
A lot of this debacle is on Brees. He committed three turnovers with two of them being fumbles. That’s simply unacceptable. He knows this. We know it. The offense has a lot to work on this week.
4) I’m happy we don’t have the “undefeated” tag on us anymore. It adds stress that we don’t need.
With the way the Saints were playing leading into this game, it could be a blessing in disguise. You learn a lot more from a loss than a win. Obviously the team needs to step up its game and we are dealing with some injuries. The defense can’t keep giving up points on opening drives because the offense can’t always be there to cover those mistakes. We saw this tonight. Brees committed three turnovers and Henderson dropped a sure TD pass. This can’t be pinned all on injuries because the Saints really could have outscored the Cowboys tonight.
5) We as Saints fans have been accustomed so accustomed to losing that this season has been miraculous. We have never gone this long into a season with no losses. We got spoiled this year. We’re still 13-1. No one else in the NFC can say that. We still have a first round bye and, with our remaining schedule, we still look golden for home field advantage.
Big picture is always important. So Brees doesn’t win the MVP this year. So what. I think we’d all take the Lombardi trophy and let Manning enjoy yet another MVP.
And the eighth and final rule: if this is your first time at Fight Club, you have to fight.
If we win the Superbowl Brees could still make MVP.

they give the mvp for regular seasons it doesnt affect the voting if a player wins the superbowl, i think they make the votes before the playoffs i think

a fan can get spoiled after theyr team wins and wins hu.
thats how a lot of us are at stampede blue and its worst for us cuz we win and we win but we end up losing when it matters, I rather be 9-7 with a superbowl win than 16-0 and lose the big one, good luck saints lookin forward to a colts-saints superbowl

First thing first
First of all the Saints won the division
First the Saints got the bye in the playoffs
Before we talk Superbowl the Saints have to win in the playoffs
I don’t care for home field advantage because I want the Saints to beat the Vikings in Minnesota
First 13 game regular season in 45 years its about dam time
13-1 ain’t bad GO SAINTS
Ya know
I can over look any bad decisions by Brees he has earned the right to have a bad game now and then he always gives his best effort
But Bushrod is a whole different matter he played terrible and has been playing that way for alot of this year
He looked like he gave minimal effort and was beaten like a goverment mule often

*sigh*
Was it me, or, for the briefest of moments (3 quarters!), was I seeing the Saints of old? I guess in everyone’s life, past actions and/or old habits ear their ugly head. In this case, it was the Saints, playing to alllll their former non-gloryness. But, it seemed in the 4th quarter, the reminiscing back to the “old days” was over with, and modern, this year play was back. Unfortunately, it was 1/2 quarter to late.
Dropped passes, no pass protection, bad defense all around…has got to stop. Hopefully, 1 game of being almost completely dominated will be enough of a scare and hurt bad enough that it doesn’t wanna be repeated again.
13-1 sure beats 1-13. Man I hate 13-1! HOPEFULLY, if we were destined to have 1 loss this year, that was it.
Ok…enough bellyaching. Game over….here we come (or here y’all come to us) TB! 14-1
GEAUX SAINTS!!!!
Here's my two cents:
1) When Jabari Greer gets back, our secondary will be great. Porter was damn good last night, and although MJ is terrible right now on the outside, he is a good nickel or dime back on the inside.
2) Ellis coming back will also be huge. Not only does he do a good job against the run, his inside pressure helps our outside rushers get home.
3) Payton and co. need to address these slow starts… Drew started getting into rhythm but it wasnt until the 4th.. a little too late to make a solid difference.
4) PT missed a few key chip blocks. I don’t blame Drew for the fumbles, his grasp on the ball in order to throw it does not equate to a strong grasp able to withstand pressure. I heard someone say Bushrod played like “hot garbage”, but Im not sure that many could have stood against a determined Demarcus Ware.

yeah PT missed
a bunch of key safety pick ups. Bush on the other hand looked better in the blocking game. I saw him at least 3-4 times pick up the right guy and give Brees extra time. Thats where is football IQ is better than Thomas and thats why u see him in there in the 2 min offense. i think the statement was “Demarcus Ware was throwing Bushrod around like hot garbage.”
Brees completed 29-45 passes!!!
If Devery Henderson doesn’t drop the ball in the end zone, no one would be saying Brees had a bad game! He didn’t. We abandoned the run too early, we didn’t do any screen passes to nullify the pass rush, our defense had horrendous 1st qtr and then made adjustments after that and held them to a fg in 2nd qtr, and 7 pt in 2nd half. I think a lot of us have lost perspective on this one game vs a good desperate team because of our 1st 13 games. Dallas was desperate not only because of the playoffs, this game (a loss) was going to signal changes to their whole s\ystem/organization!

Why not start the hurry-up offense in the 1st Q
Why don’t they start the hurry-up offense in the 1st Q. They seemed (almost) pretty unstoppable when they had the Cowboys back pedaling. Why wait until the 4Q to start that?
I really thought that was a horrible PI call when the Dallas Off player RAN INTO the Saints player and they flagged the Saints. Same thing happens to Saints and a no-call.
I am relieved for the loss. Yes a perfect season would have been gravy on top of the taters, but I am so ready for 18-1 right now!

I think
that they should get the win here against Tampa, then rest all or most of the starters against Carolina. If we beat Tampa that game will have no meaning.
New Orleans Saints, "God's Team"
now it's back to
the should we rest or not. that is the question. do you want your guys a little banged up but still on their A game?? Do you rest your starters in hopes of giving them time to heal, or let them play to keep their head in the game. do you let them sit it out and start to soften up a little or do you play them and keep them sharp? these are the questions that everyone is going to start to ask now especially if the Saints beat Tampa
Pretty simple
We got whooped. We needed that game just as badly as Dallas did, maybe more so. IT WAS A HOME GAME!… The heat was turned up…a PLAYOFF Game environment…. and we got whooped.
Turn it up! Win out!… This is our shot, balls to the wall!
