Are there any LSU players that actually earn a paycheck in the NFL?

OK,obviously  I am still mad at Devery from the other night.  That drop by Brick Hands was a huge reason the Saints lost.  Saints need to be throwing to the Meach or Moore as the second option.  But seriously, look at LSU players that have come out recently under Miles.  Jamarcus, Bowe, Dorsey, Jackson, Landry...Not NFL ready.  I think this is an indictment of Les Miles and shows what a bad coach he really is.  Addai is probably the best LSU player right now and the Colts drafted Donald Brown to replace him before the season.  Mawae and Faneca are pretty good but who else?

Y.A. Tittle?

Brees gonna throw down the Saints... Wide open Devery Henderson! Nobody's within twenty yards of him! He could do the backstroke into the end zone from there! And he'll take it in for a seventy-five yard touchdown strike!

are you serious?

one dropped pass? that had nothing to do with why the saints lost. how about no protection for brees? how about not being able to stop the run? how about the whole team having an off day? dont blame devery henderson, he’s had a good year…the whole team laid an egg against dallas, and i hate it as much as the next guy. to say that one dropped pass was a huge reason we lost is ridiculous when there are major obvious issues on both sides of the ball that need to be fixed if we want to go anywhere in the playoffs.

by saintsfan77 on Dec 22, 2009 1:58 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

Actually

…that pass alone, if caught, might have been enough to win the game for us. Add 7 to our point total, and at the end we’re only going for a field goal to win. Much more doable than trying to march all the way downfield for a tying TD.

What’s wrong here is calling Devery “Brick Hands” for a single drop on an underthrown ball. Devery has turned his act around and become a standout for the Saints, and he deserves the support of fans, not this kind of over-the-top contempt.

Agreed

Seems like he may not have his A-game every week, but I still think he may be a little under-rated. I’m sure alot of teams would like to have him right now. It’s Les “Timeclock” miles who is overrated.

Corey Webster is one of the better cover corners in the league. But you’re right, they’re isn’t exactly a laundry list of standout talent from LSU at the next level.

dwayne bowe is a 1000 yard reciever

and wouldnt that say a little more about miles being a good coach if hes winning with players without nfl talent?

Devery

has 1 dropped pass and you destroy him. Have any of you ever played in the NFL? I’m sure it is not easy running at full speed then stopping on a dime, adjusting your feet, finding the ball, then catching it. Geez

Devery has been great this year in his role but yet when he drops 1 you kill the guy.

by touchdown my pants on Dec 22, 2009 12:04 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Devery Henderson...

has killed the Saints over the past 5 years with his dropped balls. Two years ago they nearly cut him during the preaseason. If Meach wasn’t so bad(or injured) to start with Devery would have been gone. However, Last year Devery was a little better, but still inconsistent. It seemed he had finally got past that this dropping tendency this year, the last 3 games he has dropped 5 key passes and that TD drop when points were hard to come by Saturday night probably lost the game. Moore and Meach need to be the #2 and 3 guys.
And no, I have only played at the high school level, but I don’t make millions of bucks to catch footballs. Catch the freakin ball, its your job.
Ask any KC fan and see how much of a Bowe fan they are. About as big a fans as we were of Meachem until this season. Bowe is fat and lazy, although I think the new coach may help him eventually kick that habit. So many LSU players are fat and/or lazy=bad coaching in college.

Acording to NOLA.com, Devery Henderson had the FEWSET DROPS ON THE TEAM LAST YEAR!

That’s more than just “a little better.”

If Mike McKenzie hadn’t been called for P.I. against Roy Williams on 3rd down in the second quarter, Cowboys would have punted instead of scored, and the game’s outcome would have been the same as you think it would had Devery caught that ball. Which was underthrown. And he had beat his man. Brees was late getting him the ball. I had a great view of that play, as it happened right in front of me. I was screaming for Brees to throw it to Devery when Devery was crossing the 15 yard line. But Brees was flushed from the pocket. If only Brees had been protected better.

There are a million other “if’s” that could have happened in that game. To pin it all on Devery Henderson is ridiculous.

Really? That pass LOST the game Yeah the pressure on Brees and our defense not stopping the Cowboys had nothing to do with the outcome.

I have to agree with you on Henderson, though he seems to have made strides this season. Still, he’s been terribly inconsistent over the course of his NFL career. He’s led the league in drop percentage twice, while also leading it in yards per reception. As a fan, that’s maddening. Throw those statistics out 20 years ago and names like Larry Burton and Renaldo Nehemiah would have immediately come to mind. For those of you too young to recall, both of those guys were considered big time busts. Also, consider the guys who have started over Henderson — a 2nd round draft pick — since he’s been here. Joe Horn (an undrafted community college transfer), Jerome Pathon (a journeyman), Donte Stallworth (talented, but troubled), Terrance Copper (undrafted), Jamal Jones (undrafted, slated to start following the Stallworth trade), Marques Colston (7th rounder), David Patten (undrafted journeyman), Lance Moore (undrafted) and now Meachem (slow to catch on). Kind of reminds me of a grandma driving on the interstate. Everyone else is blowing their horn, zipping around her. Only this grandma is arguably the fastest driver on the team. I dunno, maybe Devery is Danica Patrick’s grandma. It doesn’t make sense to me.

LSU and the SEC has been

solid contributors to the NFL. If not house-hold names or Heismann winners solid players/journeymen that play for years under the radar i.e. Kevin Mawae

Does anyone remember LSU's Heisman Trophy winner Billy Cannon?

He went on to play for the Houston Oilers in the Astrodome. (This was pre-Saints franchise.) Everybody expected him to be the biggest thing to hit the pros.

Cannon had some pretty solid all-purpose numbers in the pros. Compare his reception and receiving totals to practically any other RB in his era. They definitely stack up. His lack of respect at the next level is primarily because he played all but the final season of his career in the AFL. There are dozens of players that fall under that category, which is just ridiculous, imo. Ollie Matson is in the HOF with practically identical all-purpose numbers, all because he didn’t play in the “inferior league”. John Hadl, Charlie Hennigan, Floyd Little, Daryle Lamonica, Cookie Gilchrist, Earl Fason, Larry Grantham, Jim Tyrer, Jim Nance, Johnny Sample, Lionel Taylor … you can’t tell me none of these belong in Canton. Especially after the NFL decided to officially honor their accomplishments upon the merger. Huge pet peeve of mine, in case you couldn’t tell.

Billy Cannon

HOF? I don’t think so.Can you spell “CONVICT”.

by KilnBill on Dec 23, 2009 9:29 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I didn’t say anything about Cannon being worthy of the HOF. I just said his AFL numbers are at least comparable to NFL HOFers of the same era. Jim Tyrer killed his entire family, then committed suicide. Johnny Sample punched Otto Graham in the face for dropping the N-bomb and was subsequently blacklisted (no pun intended) from the NFL. There are legitimate reasons some of these guys aren’t in, but very few are football related.

Are you guys serious?

Doucet is playing in Arizona, with a bunch of great receivers in front of him…Bradie James kicked some “bleep” in the Superdome a few days ago…Alan Faneca is a stud…Laron Landry is a starter and a great safety…Devery has played outstanding for the past two years…Tyson Jackson and Dorsey are on an awful team and just a couple of years into their NFL careers…Bowe is a stud…even though he is also a knucklehead…Ryan clark start (and hits) for the Steelers, Jarvis Green is a stud for the Pats…should I go on??? come on, one loss and it’s all doom and gloom? all our REAL goals are still in front of us folks! Geaux SAINTS!!!
