Fullback officially replaces kicker as Saints' favorite musical chair position

Adam Caplan, of Scout.com, reports newly signed New Orleans Saints FB Marcus Mailei (undisclosed) has been placed on injured reserve, ending his 2009 season.  Mailei was signed off the Philadelphia Eagles' practice squad on December 9, 2009 after the team waived FB Kyle Eckel.  Eckel, also a former Eagle, has been re-signed to take Mailei's place on the 53 man roster.  The Saints had already lost two other FBs to season ending injuries; Olaniyi Sobomehin and starter Heath Evans.  Evans was brought in after last year's starter, Mike Karney, was released.  Karney has since been signed by the St. Louis Rams.

Dang...

well I hope that Shock can get healthy soon because we’re going to need Thomas’ run blocking down the stretch. And am I wrong or is Lorenzo Neal still a FA? Is he out of shape that much to where we can’t pick him up?

Jesus...

Why not try to find a TE, and let Wendy’s hang out back there. At least he’s gotten the hang of the concept of run blocking. Or forget about the FB, and let Bell and PT line up together. Bell had a stint learning the FB position for Denver, and both are solid blockers. And that might even be an effective package, since both are potentially dangerous runners.

I was just wondering

Of the 100s of offensive schemes I don’t recall seeing them in a split back ot 2 back set often if ever

Where did the second roster spot come from, if all they did was put Mailei on IR?

The up side is

Gregg Williams can install a coin operated turnstile in the locker room and pay back the quarter $ mil to Sean.

This is turning into the Saints version of “Who’s On First?”

“The new fullback is who?’ “Yes.”

Fat, dumb, and happy. Hell, two out of three ain't bad!

Just as long as the QB isn't...

…Yesterday.

;-)

…the new TE, is that “Who” or “What”? We know “I dunno” is the fullback, right???

If they don't bring him back

they should at least give him a ring if the win the big game. The guy deserves it. He ran his ass off for years for the Saints and was one of the few bright spots we had on the team for years. He deserves to get a ring not only for his play but for what he did off the field as well.
