AFC Super Bowl Prediction

I predicted it 5 weeks ago and I will say it again.  I am predicting the Chargers to go to the Super Bowl and face the Saints.  It would be somewhat of a good matchup for the Saints, but the Chargers are a formidable foe.  Actually they are a very formidable foe.  We would have to play our best to beat them, but I think we could and would.

They have locked up a first round bye and home field advantage vs anyone except Indy.  They are in a good position.  Next week they can rest / cruise and now Indy is in this weird  positon where they feel they have to win out- they can't just turn their backs on the opportunity to have the best record in the history of the NFL. But they are trying to win out in games that don't mean anything.  One thing I have learned watching the NFL, if you try to accomplish more than one objective, it becomes exponentially harder.  If they lose, well it clearly could work against them. They lose confidence, gain doubt, give other teams hope and a plan, and the timing is crucial.  That's why it is a good thing the Saints lost when they did.  In 2-3 weeks the loss will all be an insignificant memory and if we face the Cowboys again, it will be a motivating factor and we have learned an immense amount from our loss.

If Indy loses, then what do they do for the final game of the regular season? Lose two in a row while resting players?  Or try to regain momentum? If they win game 15, but lose game 16, isn't that a bad way to enter the playoffs?  If they win all 16, isn't that a bad omen and isn't every opponent going to take chances and go for broke- because what have they got to lose???  No risk, no reward for the underdog.

But, getting back to the Chargers, they have some great personnel and experience and I think they can and will beat Indy in the AFC championship game. I think they might have the most talented roster besides the Saints in the league.  There are other good teams in the AFC, but I am doubtful any of them will advance past Indy and San Diego, especially without a bye involved.
