Five Saints make the Pro Bowl
Per wwltv.com:
Quarterback Drew Brees and guard Jahri Evans will start for the NFC. Tackle Jon Stinchcomb makes the squad as a reserve.
On the defensive side of the ball, Darren Sharper will start at free safety. Jonathan Vilma makes his second Pro Bowl as a reserve.
Good showing for the Saints, hopefully they won't be playing tho cuz they will be getting ready for the Big Show the following week.

Don't Forget
The Pro Bowl is the weekend BEFORE the Superbowl. Players from the two teams going to the Superbowl will NOT be participating in the Pro Bowl. They will get any bonus money for being selected, but will not be taking part in the playing of the game.
That's good news.......where'd U get that?

It's in the article
linked to this fanpost from wwltv.com.
This year’s game is the weekend prior to the Super Bowl, with both games in Miami, and obviously any player selected to play in the exhibition would forego that opportunity while focusing on the big prize.
I read it earlier in the year about them getting their bonus pay, and I don’t have a handy link to that info, but any players selected from the two teams going to the Superbowl won’t be playing in the Pro Bowl
Thanks......I think that is a good deal for them and their teams!

It's to improve the ratings of the Pro Bowl
Since there is always a week without football before the Super Bowl. The idea is keep fan interest until the super bowl. Thereby improving the ratings of the Pro Bowl. Less anticlimatic.

Not sure its permanent,I liked the Hawaiian tradition.

It’s a one year experiment, which could become permanent, based on its reception. All the Pro Bowl players and their significant others get complimentary Super Bowl tickets this year, which is something new, also. If I had to guess, that’s going to appeal to players a lot more than a free trip to Honolulu. Let’s face it, when you’re making 6, 7 or 8 figures a season, a weekend getaway to a Pacific island paradise is a drop in the bucket. You’re not touching two Super Bowl tickets for under $3K. Even if they were completely burnt out on football, they could sell their pair to a buddy, fly out to Oahu, watch the game on TV and still probably have enough left over for a Big Kahuna burger and fries. Super sized.

Last year, just for fun
I priced Superbowl tickets (average seating), round trip air fare from Okinawa, hotel, and pre-game activities/events. It came to a little under $30,000 per person.

Wow. I’m looking at $5K tops this year, provided the Saints are in that number. That’s for two. I’m not worried about anything but a bed and the game, though. Fast food = business as usual.

It’s also something affordable that the local residents of the Super Bowl city can take part in. The Super Bowl itself doesn’t offer that venue. Making Pro Bowl tickets part of an NFL Experience package would make a lot of sense. I can’t really see a whole lot of visiting fans arriving the weekend prior, so who else would this be catered towards, in terms of gate revenue? As a local, I know I’d definitely want to attend a Pro Bowl in New Orleans. Conversely, even if I happened to be in Hawaii the same weekend as the Pro Bowl, I’m thinking twice about spending four hours of my vacation time watching a lackluster exhibition game.

I think our punter got hosed.
Between his kickoffs and his punting Morstead should have gotten the Pro Bowl. I also think Goodwin should have made it.

While Evans’s Pro Bowl invitation is deserving, you can pretty much kiss either he or Jammal Brown goodbye after this season. I think Brown’s marginally better than Stinchcomb on the right side, but Stinchcomb is already locked up long term. Two Pro Bowl offensive linemen entering free agency spells “something’s gotta give”. Sure, you could take the Dan Snyder approach and pay them whatever they want, but what happens when this whole CBA thing is sorted out and we’re sitting millions over the cap? I’d rather bite the bullet now and look for someone a little less overrated at his current position in free agency. I’m primarily speaking of Brown, but if no better left tackle is available — which is a distinct possibility, considering how highly the franchise ones are coveted, as well as our lowly first round draft position — I’d reluctantly let Evans walk. Same situation as LeCharles Bentley, really. Guard is a relatively easy position to replace. Evans was a fourth rounder himself. I think that’s something they’re going to have to think long and hard about over the next couple of months. Of course, that’s all contingent on Brown being fully recovered in time for free agency. Do you even want to go out on that limb, if he isn’t? I wonder what this does for Stinchcomb’s trade value, btw. Therein lies another possibility, provided Brown is healthy and open to shifting back over to the right side. If Stinchcomb + our first rounder can land us a franchise left tackle — be it a younger veteran or higher first rounder — I’d be all for that switcheroo. Should be interesting.

You forget this is an uncapped year
Any signing bonus you give can be FULLY counted this year and spread out over the length of the contract. Therefore, you can give a guy a lot of money up front and lessen the salary, which would go against any future caps. Say you pay a 20 mil signing bonus and give say 5 mil a year for 5 years with incentives. Though that would look like a 45 mil contract, because front end money counts for more than back end money. At a 2.5% inflation rate, it would be more on the line of a 52 mil contract with a conventional signing bonus. The first 25 mil would go against the uncapped year and then the next 4 years would be only 5 mil against the cap.
